Those who are self-isolating/distancing, what food do you have in the house right now?

More of a light hearted post - interested to see what you’ve managed to get into your fridges and cupboards for self-isolating!

I’m 35 weeks pregnant and currently can’t really be bothered to cook so I’ve got lots of chicken nuggets, turkey dinosaurs, waffles, curly fries, chips, halloumi fries and ham and cheese turkey sandwiches in the freezer. But then I’ve also managed to get ingredients for a chilli con carne, spaghetti bolognese, tortellini and steak with veg. Managed to get some bananas, ice cream, lots of snack bars, some soup, beans and spaghetti hoops and a couple of boxes of cereal, some crisps and a loaf of bread. Also some orange juice and Pepsi Max!

Are any of you being as lazy as me with the frozen nuggets or are you healthier eating/making things from scratch?

No I'm completely lazy. Its scaring me that I may have to learn how to cook properly.

LadySlipper11 · 19/03/2020 19:40

I batch cook for my DS so he has loads of fancy things in the freezer, for myself I have baked potatoes, beans, cheese, 1 questionable onion, ham and milk (cant be without tea in a crisis!)

WhiteCat1704 · 19/03/2020 19:43

Got a "non contact" dominos delivered:d

Dowser · 19/03/2020 19:46

Distancing more than isolating but just got back from holiday, so today went to the butchers, got
Steaks
Lambs liver
Carrots
Leeks
Onions
Peppers
2 bags of gf oats
Lots of bags of dried fruit, nuts and seeds to make a big tub of gf oat muesli
Almond milk as we are df as well
Dark chocolate covered rice cakes
A tub of pears, for fresh fruit topping for our muesli..only £1-50
My daughter left us some fruit and veg yesterday evening for when we got home

Have I given you any inspiration yet 😂

Notimeforaname · 19/03/2020 19:52

I'm veggie so I made a huge chickpea and lentil stew and froze it.

Fortunately there was lots of quorn left in the shops so have plenty of that.

Lots of veg, nuts an pulses and those little bread rolls to cook in oven.

I grow some veg in containers though I only started them last month so if this does last a few months I'll have plenty of lettuce spring onions and tomatoes 😂😂

CandleFlames · 19/03/2020 19:55

Oooh I could do with a no contact dominos but unfortunately they don’t deliver here :(

@Dowser haha yes! Didn’t think about making my own muesli!

Whole freezer of mainly vegetables and minced beef, lamb chops and chicken breasts. Plenty of squash. One long life milk carton. Half a loaf. Bananas. No fridge stuff at all. Plenty of tins and packets.

Polkadotpjs · 19/03/2020 19:57

Crisps. Lots of and only 1 packet of halloumi
This is bad. And loads of bread. A friend dropped two loaves off and I’d got some in the online shop. I might have to freeze it. Whilst feeling bad that I have it

Elieza · 19/03/2020 19:58

I’ve got a small stock of tinned tuna, hotdogs, tinned corned beef and fray bentos pies.

The freezer is always full of weight watchers dinners and bread.

I’ve got some packets of cold meat and some veggies and three bags of spuds.

I’ve enough to last about two weeks but will stock up weekly. Not forgetting the sweetie cakes and crisps cupboard!

It will be the only time I am out, except to walk alone in the park as I am totally isolating.

SFCA · 19/03/2020 20:09

Kids are tube fed and fortunately I batch cook, blend and freeze meals anyway. They have enough dinners for three weeks and we were very lucky to have a good Tesco order this morning to get their breakfasts and lunches too. I have frozen a little fruit and salad today as I usually buy fresh stuff for them a couple of times a week.

We now have some meat, pasta, rice, passata, veggies and store cupboard ingredients.

We don’t tend to eat many canned foods but got some fruit in case we run out of fresh fruit for the children.

We could probably now eat quite normally for 2 weeks then it might all get a bit wacky 😂

We are completely isolating but hoping that family will be able to help get us bits

mrsm43s · 19/03/2020 20:10

We've (family of 2 adults, 2 teens) been SI for just over a week, and have a full freezer with chicken (breasts, thighs and 2 whole), 2 or 3 portions of mince, some prawns, some white fish, 2 packs of fish fingers, some chicken kievs, frozen veg (peas, sweetcorn, spinach, green beans) and a few other random bits and bobs.

Tinned/longlife I have half a dozen tins of toms, a few tins of various pulses, 3 tins of tuna, 4 tins baked beans, a packet of pasta.

Fresh, we're pretty much out. We have 3 oranges, 1 pineapple, cheese, 4 pints milk, half a loaf of white bread, half a loaf of brown, butter and about 4 eggs. All fresh veg and salad has been used up. No juice left, no yoghurts either.

I have my normal Morrisons weekly shop coming tonight, which according to the online receipt is pretty much all there.

We're fine, we certainly won't starve, but we're definitely having to think about what we're eating, and the teens are finding it hard to adjust to not things not automatically being replaced as they run out.

We have another 10 days of self isolating due to DS1 having a temp/cough which I’m pretty sure is just the flu which has gone through the household since mid Feb but for my family of 6 we have:

Enough frozen meat for 7 days (used up the fresh stuff now)
6 cans tuna
Frozen veggie mince/burgers
4 large bags pasta
2 bags rice
6 packs of microwave rice
1 bag of couscous
I bag of bulgar wheat
1 large bag of chips
1 bag potatoes
I bag sweet potatoes
1 bag of lentils
I bag split peas
Tins of assorted beans/lentils/ravioli/veg
Curry and pasta sauces
Frozen spinach/peas
3 x large cartons of milk
About 10 yoghurts
3 tubs butter
2 blocks of cheese
I pack of ham
18 eggs
2 large cartons of juice
2 bottles of squash
1 pack of peppers
Multi pack of garlic
2 packs of apples
I pack of satsaumas
3 bananas
3 boxes cereal
3 bags of porridge
2 uht soya milks (yuk but all I could get)
2 frozen bread/I fresh
1 pack of part baked rolls
3 bags sugar
1 large multi pack of biscuits
Packs of Colman’s sauces/spices/salt/stock cubes/ honey/jam/peanut butter/ketchup/mayo

I will need milk/bread/fresh veg and fruit by Monday which a relative will drop over but all in all it looks like we’ll be OK. Hopefully the panic buying will be over by the time I next venture into a supermarket!

SparklesAllOver · 19/03/2020 20:29

In isolation, two days ago DH came down with symptoms, I am ill now. Did a small shop on monday, currently have eggs, half a carton of milk, a bag of rocket, a red pepper, pickles, chicken breasts, filled pasta, pasta sauce, small piece of cheese, pack of tomatoes. Also some store cupboard stuff but running low on paracetamol due to nothing in shops. No delivery slots in my area until after I come out of isolation. F* it.

mummmy2017 · 19/03/2020 20:29

Can I just say, if you have a foreign food markets near by, they all have loads of fresh veg.

PetrolCan · 19/03/2020 20:30

Not a lot. Online delivery due any minute. Keeping my fingers very crossed that there's actual food arriving and they haven't sold out of anything. We're all stuck indoors until Tuesday at least. Wish me luck...

HundredMilesAnHour · 19/03/2020 20:34

I'm envious of those of you that have bread. I'm down to my last slice and that has mould on it. I'll be scraping the mould off it for breakfast tomorrow. Blush

Haven't seen any bread in my local shops for a week.

Elieza · 20/03/2020 18:54

I bought flour in case it came to having to do my own bread. I can never get it nice though. So I’m hoping the bread I have will last!

mummmy2017 · 20/03/2020 18:56

Order a bread maker.
Bread made in one is very nice.

Stayawayfromitsmouth · 20/03/2020 19:04

@SparklesAllOver can you get in touch with locals on social media to drop you some supplies on the doorstep.
Or even put a red cross note in your window.
Plenty of people willing to help out.

Next time we go shopping well try to get different meats.

SparklesAllOver · 20/03/2020 19:35

Stayawayfromitsmouth Thank you, a friend is going to try to get some bits for us tomorrow. Shopping here (south east) is apparently dreadful, nothing fresh on the shelves by 7am. On a good note, DH fever is better, breathing still painful but he looks a bit more himself.

OlaEliza · 20/03/2020 19:36

Also have tinned tuna & sardines, squash, tinned fruit cocktail and peanuts and sunflower seeds.
