Those who are self-isolating/distancing, what food do you have in the house right now?

More of a light hearted post - interested to see what you’ve managed to get into your fridges and cupboards for self-isolating!

I’m 35 weeks pregnant and currently can’t really be bothered to cook so I’ve got lots of chicken nuggets, turkey dinosaurs, waffles, curly fries, chips, halloumi fries and ham and cheese turkey sandwiches in the freezer. But then I’ve also managed to get ingredients for a chilli con carne, spaghetti bolognese, tortellini and steak with veg. Managed to get some bananas, ice cream, lots of snack bars, some soup, beans and spaghetti hoops and a couple of boxes of cereal, some crisps and a loaf of bread. Also some orange juice and Pepsi Max!

Are any of you being as lazy as me with the frozen nuggets or are you healthier eating/making things from scratch?

This is why I think the UK needs to go into proper lockdown with the army overseeing the supermarket tills.

We don't have the army but our shops are fully stocked and no shortages, everyone can get what they need.

I would post stuff to people from here but unfortunately I dont think it would arrive. I think it would be intercepted and stolen.

We only have a tiny freezer section so no junk food, I felt things would go to crap this month so stocked up in Feb and still have over half my supplies. Chicken, mince meat and pork loins shrimp for fajitas and bacon. Fridge wise I haven't stocked up, we just have milk, iced tea and lemonade which I make in gallon jugs and things like bags of cheese, sour cream, eggs and butter etc. I have 10 packs of pasta and 10 of rice, a bunch of mashed potato mix and ramen, then the sauce mixes etc for other meals. lots of flour and sugar. I am running low on potatoes and onions now, but we are self isolating so we will just move to our stored stuffnoew for at least a few weeks. I am glad we stocked up before March because it meant we didn't have to take supplies when others are trying to get them, but obviously are stock will run out at some point so we will need to plan for one of us to start going to the store every couple of weeks.

Order a bread maker.
Bread made in one is very nice
I have had mine for years, use it every week. Currently out of action due to all the cretinous cunts who have stripped the shelves of bread mixes flour and yeast.

Normal fruit and veg got some steak, fish and chicken in the freezer. None perishables we have 2 bags of rice and pasta and some dolmio stir in sauce for one (fiancé hates sauce on pasta so this is the easiest solution for us). Then I have gyoza, ramen, and instant soba noodles for quick easy meals or snack

I’ve got a fairly full freezer (lots of potato products, random bags of bloody peas thanks to the co-op meal deals, frozen peppers and onions, pizzas, nuggets and surplus portions of lasagne, spaghetti bolognese etc) and cupboards, plus an overflow cupboard with pasta, sauces, tins, packets etc (not been panic buying, I just get anxious in general about running out of food!). My fridge has milk, cheese, juice, wine and some dubious veggies that might be ok for soup. I’ve had a meat delivery tonight off a local butchers, and got fruit, veg, eggs and bread coming tomorrow from the local greengrocers.

I’ve always joked that I keep enough in stock to feed us for a month so I guess I’m going to have to test the theory!

Dinners in the freezer(for two of us): turkey pie-2 (That’s two day’s worth of dinners); chilli con carne-3(that’s 3 day’s worth of dinners); turkey ragu-2(that’s 2 day’s worth of dinners); spaghetti bolognese-2(that’s 2 day’s worth of dinners); shepherd’s pie-2(that’s 2 day’s worth of dinners)-so almost two weeks of dinners. These were all double or triple quantities that I’ve been batch cooking before Covid-19 was a problem. I’m leaving them be for the time being, though I’d normally be using two or three during the week until I’d have to batch cook again. Instead, I’m cooking dinners every day (just things like stir fries, pork chops, fish) so that if we DO have to rely on the dinners in the freezer at a later date, we won’t be bored with eating the same stuff for weeks.

I’ve pasta, rice and lentils in the store cupboard, and plenty of tinned tomatoes and purée. I’ve also got brown flour and white flour in case I need to make bread. Six boxes of tea bags (decaf and non) and plenty of ground coffee-just because we always buy without checking what we have in stock, not because I was panic buying! Four bags of porridge oats-my husband can’t function without his porridge every morning! Apart from that, a few packets of biscuits (but I tend to bake anyway), some tinned salmon and tinned tuna.

However, I’m in Ireland, and there’s no problem with supply in the supermarkets, thankfully. I really sympathise with people in England who are having huge difficulty getting formula (couldn’t believe people would buy it as a substitute for milk! How selfish!), toilet paper and soap. It must be so worrying.
