Oh fuck, I rely on a level tuition as my income

I’m actually fucked, I’ve just found out a levels are cancelled, presumably meaning none of my students will need tuition.

I’m a postgrad student and rely on this money to pay my rent. AGH.

I had already invested considerable time in converting all my classes to being Skype friendly 😬

Cancelled or postponed?

leafyygreens · 18/03/2020 17:35

I heard it as cancelled? I am in a bit of a panic so could be wrong. Students will still need to start at uni instead?

@pinkyredrose English isn’t my first language, didn’t realise was so obvious 😭😂

Hope you don't teach English!

Fucksake, no need.

ThanosSavedMe · 18/03/2020 17:38

So many of us are fucked. I feel your pain. You can still offer the Skype lessons as they’ll need the info with for uni or when they eventually sit the exams.

MephistophelesApprentice · 18/03/2020 17:38

My job relies on students from outside the UK. Pretty worried right now.

HollowTalk · 18/03/2020 17:38

There was nothing on the news about A levels being cancelled.

If schools have closed then people will need even more tuition. Can't you switch to Skype and ask students to email essays etc?

EvilPea · 18/03/2020 17:40

You will be needed to keep them ticking over, more so because of no school.
My eldest was in the fuck up 11+ year this year and we carried on tutoring as did many parents.

Please don’t panic, I think you’ll be ok.

Sotiredofthislife · 18/03/2020 17:40

Exams have been cancelled. It is all over the news

EvilPea · 18/03/2020 17:40

The exams are cancelled but they will be at some point.

cologne4711 · 18/03/2020 17:42

Won't you be needed even more? Am I missing something?

DuchessOfBeddington · 18/03/2020 17:42

Can you offer a FaceTime service for wealthy parents that want their kids to keep up while the schools are off?

Doggybiccys · 18/03/2020 17:42

Exact words are “will not take place as planned in May and June” ..... so it may mean a change to the method of assessing eg essays instead of exams.

cologne4711 · 18/03/2020 17:43

BBC and Times not reporting exams cancelled.

DillyDilly · 18/03/2020 17:44

They are postponed and will be re-scheduled, not cancelled.

cologne4711 · 18/03/2020 17:46

I've found the relevant bit on the BBC website now, rather hidden away. Should be in the main news story!

MrsMozartMkII · 18/03/2020 17:46

Advertise your wares!

You can provide online lessons, Skype, etc., to help with all those children at all levels who won't be at school.

leafyygreens · 18/03/2020 17:47

Thank you for everyone’s replies.

I was expecting schools to close but exams to continue (so optimistically thought I might be needed even more).

I fear that parents won’t want to pay for a level tuition if their children aren’t actually sitting exams and are going straight to university, particularly as everyone will be financially effected.

I teach physics and chemistry, but maybe alternative assessments will be provided as pp have suggested 🙏

GloriousGoosebumps · 18/03/2020 17:50

@EvilPea what happened in the 11+ this year?

fluffiphlox · 18/03/2020 17:50

Surely the little scrotes will still need tutoring especially if they’re a bit thick. Grin

Knackeredmommy · 18/03/2020 17:52

They're postponed, I imagine you'll be in even more demand as parents will want their children to engage in learning whilst off. Tuition will be popular.

iHateJanuary2020 · 18/03/2020 17:52

Absolutely shocking comment from pinkredrose. How deeply unpleasant.

OP, you may still be in demand. Maybe October/November when resits usually take place. Hang in there, may yet turn out ok. Still early days.
