Oh fuck, I rely on a level tuition as my income

I’m actually fucked, I’ve just found out a levels are cancelled, presumably meaning none of my students will need tuition.

I’m a postgrad student and rely on this money to pay my rent. AGH.

They are postponed, not cancelled I believe. Can you set up yourself on line and hand a few flyers out for Easter tuition and beyond?

noblegiraffe · 18/03/2020 21:41

They are cancelled. Gavin Williamson said no assessments this year.

LizziesTwin · 18/03/2020 21:46

& there are no A level retakes in the autumn, only the summer. Also almost no coursework nowadays.

nicerainyweather · 18/03/2020 21:47

Some extremely stupid people seem to be recommending that pupils re-take the whole year. Fuckers. They will then presumably be competing for university places with the whole of the year below them.

bellabasset · 18/03/2020 21:47

Calm down, sit down and set out what you can do to tutor pupils and at which levels. Think you'll find plenty of work as pupils out of class will need tutoring

Good luck

HollowTalk · 19/03/2020 17:37

Nobody's going to have to resit a year.

AlliKaneSon · 19/03/2020 17:46

Me too- and I’m an examiner (which is usually a decent chunk of my income !). Along with piano /singing lessons in school being cancelled that’s zero income for me for the foreseeable! Sending my best wishes to all those in a difficult position.

Coughsyrupsucks · 19/03/2020 18:57

My daughter is year 12, and I’ve just asked her tutor to do a Skype session a week because there is no way she’ll be able to do this on her own until summer break. They’ll still need help! Good luck

There will be a great demand for online tutoring right now. There should be no reason why you could not move your work online. You could think about interesting lessons you could teach on outschool.com. I imagine you would be able to do a roaring trade. I would be happy to give you some other suggestions or advice on what you would need to set this up.

PumpkinPiloter · 20/03/2020 16:20

I am an online teacher and am fully booked. I could easily take on more hours but it may be difficult with the kids at home.

PumpkinPiloter · 20/03/2020 16:21

Although I do hope to offer some free classes locally.

fedup2017 · 20/03/2020 16:23

I agree that there will be a massive increase in demand for online tutors..... Yr 12s in particular.

DS has just finished yr11 and I was looking at some kind of Skype tutor to do something with his for the A-level he wants to do. School aren't planning to do anything. I'm not the only pushy patent thinking about the surely.

noblegiraffe · 20/03/2020 17:10

My Y12s today didn’t seem to realise they’d be expected to teach themselves for the next 6 months. Once that sinks in I’d expect demand for tutoring to rise.
