That mat is minging

MIL bought DH and I a rug for our dining room. It’s red. My son sent me a picture of an ocean pink earlier on and I could smell the rug from in the living room. Basically we have a male dog that constantly pisses on his bed but since we got the rug he’s started pissing and shitting on that instead, I bought a vax all in one cleaner but it’s constant and the rug is full of stains from the dog. Last night DH said “that mat is minging” and yes it is but he won’t throw it out because MIL bought us it!!! The dog is a frenchie and we have had behaviourist in and everything and although he knows to go outside and normally does, if he’s left alone at all (even if we’re in another room) he will go and piss or shit on the rug.

AIBU to insist we throw it out??

Dog can smell his own wee OP and thinks "ooh mom is cleaning my wee up, so I'll go do another one there as that's what I'm supposed to do now" - it's a cycle now - so REMOVE THE PISSING RUG!
Please tell us wtf Ocean Pink is!?

pigsDOfly · 17/03/2020 23:13

I'm confused. What the hell is an ocean pink and is the fact that the rug is red relevant to anything; does the dog pee on it because it's red?

I would be wondering if the dog has some sort of separation anxiety if it only does this when you leave it alone.

Other than that you need to go right back to the beginning and house train the dog properly.

Oh, and get rid of the rug. It sounds like it's beyond being able to be cleaned. The dog will just keep going back to it to wee and the wee must have soak through to the floor underneath, which will need to be cleaned with a cleaning product made for that purpose. It's no use just washing the floor with regular floor cleaner.

motherheroic · 17/03/2020 23:34

Is your dog on dry food? Dogs who eat dry food drink WAY more water. When my dog was on dry food he would drink two bowls of water a day and was constantly going to the garden to pee. Now he is on raw and he will have a few laps a day but that's it. It's not going to stop the behaviour behind the peeing, but it will give you way less to deal with.

cinnabarmoth · 17/03/2020 23:35

A quick Google suggests ocean pinx are fish shaped/coloured like prawns. Presumably the OP meant she could smell the rug over the top of the smell of seafood i.e. it's a pretty strong smell?

AnuvvaMuvva · 17/03/2020 23:36

Ocean pink sounds very romantic. The rug, less so.

This has me 😆 😆 l

pigsDOfly · 17/03/2020 23:40

cinnabarmoth The OP said her son sent her a 'picture' of an ocean pink, so I doubt she'd be able to smell it anyway, even if the rug wasn't stinky.

Santaclauswhosthat · 17/03/2020 23:42

You can smell your rug through pictures of it on your phone? Also what is an ocean pink? Why are you asking whether or not you should keep a rug covered in shit in your dining room?

These are just the questions i have immediately. I'm sure there are others.

pigsDOfly · 17/03/2020 23:48

Another question you might add Santaclaus, is the OP ever coming back?

LolaDarkdestroyer · 17/03/2020 23:50

My female dog pisses on rugs I buy cheap and bin it's not all the time just when we are out or asleep....my house doesn't stink and my dog is trained but obviously sometimes she gets caught short if we aren't in, or are in bed. She's not 2 yet so still young...anyways as for your rug just bin the fucking thing on the snide.

JollyGiraffe12 · 17/03/2020 23:51

Throw out the rug and consider training/dog sitting for your pupper

Santaclauswhosthat · 17/03/2020 23:55

True @pigsDOfly. Story of my life really: confusion followed by crushing disappointment. I thought OP was different, with her ocean pink. Alack.

cinnabarmoth · 18/03/2020 05:57

I missed that pigsDOfly, it was certainly a bit confusing. Perhaps her son sent the picture as s tactful way to tell her he thought the rug smelled (clutching at straws here)

FredaFrogspawn · 18/03/2020 06:01

Op clearly means an ocean OF pink ie an overwhelming amount of pink like a sea of pink.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 18/03/2020 06:02

Could you not smell the rug until you were sent the picture?

steff13 · 18/03/2020 06:03

The rug smells so bad you can smell it in a picture?

Nanamilly · 18/03/2020 06:04

OP, seriously, rehome your dog.

No one should be existing alongside a dog that does the toilet indoors.

Your house must stink to high heavens even without the rug.

OhhhPeee · 18/03/2020 06:07

Could you not just buy an identical rug to replace it (assuming you like the rug)? If you don’t even like the rug why did MIL buy it? And what is ocean pink?! So many questions!

Bluntness100 · 18/03/2020 07:00

Op clearly means an ocean OF pink ie an overwhelming amount of pink like a sea of pink

That makes even less sense. Why would her son send her a picture of th colour pink and what’s that got to do with her being able to smell the rug.

Luc1nda · 18/03/2020 07:58

I had a rug that my dog just couldn’t stop wee-ing on. Just the one new rug so it must have been something in the material.

The only solution is to throw the rug away.

Lipz · 18/03/2020 08:00

I'm so confused at this thread, I keep reading it over and over but making no sense of it and just ending up with more and more questions Hmm

Lllot5 · 18/03/2020 08:08

I’d get rid of the dog.

Lllot5 · 18/03/2020 08:10

Ocean pink is sea food. Kind of like a crab stick. A chicken nugget of the sea.

AnuvvaMuvva · 18/03/2020 09:33

😂 😂 😂

contentedsoul · 18/03/2020 09:33

That’s disgusting
But I’m hardly surprised. Friends house who have dogs fucking reeks. I no longer visit as the smell is overbearing. I don’t want to say anything as I’m sure she would be embarrassed
We used to have cats so now understand how you can’t smell when it’s your own - yet brother keeps 2 cats and I smell it instantly when we visit.

EmeraldShamrock · 18/03/2020 09:41

🤢 If you Ddog owner can get a bad smell it must be horrendous.
Train the dog, use a crate, put it out regularly, bring Ddog to the vet to check for underlying health issues.
The scent travel's to clothes and furniture owners are nose blind like smokers to their whiff.
