This is a topic that has come up a few times with DS as he has grown up (now 17 almost 18). I've also had similar discussion with other mums, and it's the similar situation.

AIBU to think the all teenage boys watch porn?

I don't know about girls, it was not available when I was a teenager

By watching do you mean daily? Weekly? Monthly? I suspect that most have seen porn but the frequency will vary.
Not all teens have a smartphone - my teens have classmates who have no interest in the Internet and use a dumb phone for texting only.

Sicario · 17/03/2020 10:55

I think it's pretty much endemic.

No wonder so many girls are terrified about growing up and don't want to "identify" as female.

Pornsick boys. Girls being told they have to act like porn "stars". Imagine thinking that you will have to do THAT. It's heartbreaking.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 17/03/2020 10:58

I think most teens boys & girls have seen porn. Most will of gone looking for it or been shown it by someone.

They get curious about sex etc, we all did it’s just porn is more readily available now than when we were young.

Anyone that thinks there daughter hasn’t seen porn but ALL boys have is a fool and very naive

I would say all boys 20 years ago had seen some kind of porn. It was easy to get hold of in magazine form.
It’s just insanely more easy to see more graphic porn online now. So the seriousness of it is more more important.

I can’t believe you can go on pornhub and look at rape style pornography easily.

That said, if you look at erotica from the 17-19th century, although it was only drawings and prints in the main. The level of children involved is really shocking. And was apparently quite normal.

MorganKitten · 17/03/2020 11:23

Girls will be watching it too

LolaSmiles · 17/03/2020 11:28

Haven't voted as there's a difference between having watched or seen porn and watching porn regularly.

I think the majority of teens over 14 have seen something pornographic, but I wouldn't think all teens are watching it regularly. I'm not sure that's changed in the last 15-20 years.

What's more concerning is the shift from magazines and blurry photos being bluetoothed friend to friend to on demand graphic porn that normalises violent sex so those that do watch porn regularly are able to access material that would have been conaidered shocking 15 years ago with ease.

Buster72 · 17/03/2020 12:08

I grew up in a country and time that actively cracked down on any nudity in all media.
Just a hint of female nipple was enough to get a publication dipped from the shelf.
But we all managed to get hold of VHS tapes of porn. And it covered all manner of pecadilloes.
I really do not get the mumsnetters horror at porn.....

AngelsSins · 17/03/2020 14:15

@Buster72, maybe because a lot of women don’t think encouraging men to wank off to women being strangled, gang banged, humiliated, hurt and abused is a great idea?

Maybe you think porn is the same as it was back in the 80s?

DustyMaiden · 17/03/2020 14:17

My DS doesn’t I know because he ended friendships With people that wouldn’t accept that.

fairynick · 17/03/2020 14:22

I’m still young and I watch porn maybe twice a week.
When I was a teenager pretty much every lad I knew watched porn everyday, none of the girls would dare admit it so who knows.

Ted27 · 17/03/2020 14:24

My son doesn't. He is 15

Buster72 · 17/03/2020 14:33

@ted
15 yr old boys are so honest with their mom's.

I am well aware of porn today and that of 30 yrs back even 100 years back.

It's not all hard-core humiliation and rape.

Buster72 · 17/03/2020 14:36

@angelssins
Men don't need encouragement to wank....

Anyway look up CFNM for some real humiliation

AngelsSins · 17/03/2020 14:41

*Buster72 you asked why women on mumsnet are bothered by porn, I told you why. You want to defend such a sick “business”, knock yourself out, but don’t imply we’re prudes for not supporting misogyny.

AngelsSins · 17/03/2020 14:43

And why are you dismissing porn as not “real” humiliation? Do women not count? There is real rape out there on porn sites, and that’s not real humiliation?

You sound porn sick thinking treatment of women in this way is acceptable.

Buster72 · 17/03/2020 15:13

Rape porn is wrong
Not all porn includes rape
There's categories of porn that specifically humiliates men.

Pleased I could clear up the confusion.

AngelsSins · 17/03/2020 15:34

There's categories of porn that specifically humiliates men

Ahhh so it’s humiliation when it’s to men, but not to women? Got it.

MissingLinker · 17/03/2020 15:59

Not ALL boys but most. I work with teenagers and while I'd assume that a lot of the boys do watch porn, there is a massive variation in the maturity of 15 year olds- there are still a minority with no interest in sex at all, though they'd likely have been shown porn by friends at some point.

Ted27 · 17/03/2020 16:08

@Buster72 my son is supervised, strong parental controls, no devices in bedrooms.
He does have autism but is not isolated socially ( is a scout, plays sport)has several friends who happen to be girls.
I'm not saying he has not been exposed to porn at some point but he is still quite horrified by the idea of sex. He is however obsessed by sport and spends most of his time when he is not yomping across fields with scouts watching youtubers.
I'm very confident that he isn't spending time on porn sites

Fimofriend · 17/03/2020 16:21

Surveys have shown that most women do not get aroused by porn, they feel anxious and uncomfortable. For most women apparently porn is a major turn off. This also goes for some men.

Futaridoushi · 17/03/2020 16:22

I think porn use in females is just under-documented or not as accepted. My friends and I are quite vocal about sex. Out of 10 female friends, 50% (including me) watch porn more than once a month.

There are literally millions of pornographic works out there, it's not all rape and torture. The items in your wardrobe are just as if not more likely to have come from abuse, slavery and non-ethical production than the porn on your computer.

Moonmelodies · 17/03/2020 16:25

At least today's porn doesn't have all that sick animal stuff that was about in the 80's.

Buster72 · 17/03/2020 16:30

@angelssins
Not what I said at all
Are you concerned for the men in porn that are humiliated? I'm thinking of BDSM CFNM?

Buster72 · 17/03/2020 16:37

@ted27
I was a scout 30 years before smartphones and I do recall having a copy of playboy, September 1984, in my rucksack.

You sure the other boys don't have smartphones with them?

Judging by your approach here he is to shy to tell you the truth. I'm not casting judgement but my own experience is that teens look at porn.
