AIBU to think Chris Evans (actor one) is a bit of a knob

Last night DH and I watched Knives Out, which was great and I thought Chris Evans was good in it and extremely handsome. So I watched some stuff on YouTube about him and while he mainly comes over as affable, he also seems to have this horrible forced laugh most of the time and when he’s not doing that he looks pretty pissed off. There was an Irish guy interviewing him and he asked him if he had ever been to Ireland (I think he is part Irish) and he was all like “no but thanks for reminding me I have ignored that part of my heritage” and totally shut the guy down.

I also thought he gross when the Avengers cast were playing Chinese Whispers (in Jimmy Kimmel or something) and he said “I like to fuck girls up the butt“ to Chris Hemsworth who was like WTF!

I think there was also an incident where he and Jeremy Renner referred to a female Marvel character as a total slut and a whore Shock

I don’t know he just seems to come across like an oversized immature 38 year old frat boy.

Tell me IABU and he is actually amazing and I’ve misunderstood him.

No idea who he is. Everything you say is very US-centric are you in the US?

OwlBeThere · 15/03/2020 19:02

Hes very very close to his family, nieces and nephews etc which is always a big plus in my book. Those press junkets must be massively wearing if you are a natural introvert which I think he is and I can understand how at times they get pissed iff with answering the same question 53454 times!

Fuchsialipstick01 · 15/03/2020 19:02

No I’m in London but I did study in the East Coast of America’s so maybe that’s why I am comparing him to an over excited Frat boy - that is exactly what he reminds me of.

Yeah, we don't call it Chinese whispers in the US, we call it telephone.

steff13 · 15/03/2020 19:04

Also, why is it called Chinese whispers?

PNomintrude · 15/03/2020 19:06

Yanbu, he's likeable in some ways but apparently was prosecuted for cruelty or neglect of his dogs. And he's a member of a pretty hardline, homophobic/fundamentalist church which isn't great. I still quite like him as an actor in Parks and Recreation and playing similar characters.

OwlBeThere · 15/03/2020 19:07

Historians trace Westerners' use of the word Chinese to denote "confusion" and "incomprehensibility" to the earliest contacts between Europeans and Chinese people in the 17th century, and attribute it to Europeans' inability to understand China's culture and worldview.
According to Wikipedia @steff13

BeetrootRocks · 15/03/2020 19:07

Chris Evans is a massive film star, even I've heard of him!

He plays Captain America in the marvel films, I can fill you in with some info if you haven't noticed them as well.

BeetrootRocks · 15/03/2020 19:08

Chinese whispers is certainly racist although still in common use.

Fuchsialipstick01 · 15/03/2020 19:08

@PNomintrude now I’m defending him but I think you have the wrong bloke. Chris Evans isn’t in Parks and Recreation and is a HUGE dog lover.

@steff13 I was going to say ‘telephone’ but wasn’t sure if anyone would now what I meant.

AccioCake · 15/03/2020 19:08

@PNomintrude you're thinking of Chris Pratt.

OwlBeThere · 15/03/2020 19:08

@PNomintrude Chris Evans wasn’t in parks and rec, you’re thinking of Chris Pratt.

BeetrootRocks · 15/03/2020 19:08

Not having a go op, it's v normal use of language at the mo

TruffleShuffles · 15/03/2020 19:09

@PNomintrude are you on about Chris Pratt? Eve and wasn’t in parks and rec.

Loncan · 15/03/2020 19:10

@PNomintrude That’s Chris Pratt, not Chris Evans...too many Chris’ lol

Fuchsialipstick01 · 15/03/2020 19:11

So many Chris’s also not to be confused with bespectacled ginger radio DJ Grin

Talia99 · 15/03/2020 19:12

Chris Pine did a very funny ‘not that a Chris’ sketch on Saturday Night Live about the ‘Chris confusion’.

PNomintrude · 15/03/2020 19:12

Oops! Sorry yes, that's Chris Evans Blush

PNomintrude · 15/03/2020 19:13

Chris Pratt!! Grin I'm also feeling like a prat now.

Whatevah · 15/03/2020 19:16

Chris Evans is a massive dog lover.
His last girl friend said she thought he was going to be a frat boy, but he wasn't at all.
He is openly hugely in to Disney, dogs, animals in general and anything soppy that makes you cry.
He is currently setting up a website to do with politics, to get more people understanding it.
He lived back at the family home in his old bedroom with his folks in between Marvel films, is very close to his family.
I'm sure he has moments of being an arse, but don't we all?
I actually know someone who makes (think directs/produces) A list films, and he says all the 'Chris' guys are really nice, and as you would expect.

Fuchsialipstick01 · 15/03/2020 19:16

@ PNomintrude Grin
I’m also really disliking Chris Pratt now from your description of him!

Snoozysnoozy · 15/03/2020 19:18

Chinese whispers is certainly racist

Is it? Why and why so certain?

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 15/03/2020 19:27

@Fuchsialipstick01
Its not as bad as it sounds, they weren't neglecting the dog apparently. The rescued it and then rehomed it and then it was found wandering the streets. I don't think they were the ones neglecting the dog.

YouTheCat · 15/03/2020 19:35

He does a lot of charity work and seems to use his fame for good ends.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 15/03/2020 20:08

He is so very lovely and adores dogs so YABVU!
