Excessive hair dye use

I’m pregnant and have had a shitty week - so I’ve dyed and bleached my hair 3 times this week, 5 times in total this month 😱. I’m panicking that I’ve hurt the baby. Am I been stupid to panic this much?

You are stupid to dye your hair that much...

ShirleyPhallus · 14/03/2020 14:31

Have you got any hair left after bleaching it so much?!

Fimofriend · 14/03/2020 14:33

It is bad for the baby, but you are also at risk of your hair breaking. So not falling out of your skin, but breaking off just above the skin. You need to find another way to cope with having a shitty week. How about a nice foot bath and then really getting your feet "sandal ready"?

Tableclothing · 14/03/2020 14:36

If hair dyes were that bad for babies, we would know from hairdressers' babies. But your hair must be feeling pretty fragile. Maybe it's time to investigate some more positive coping strategies.

TrudysTerribleFringe · 14/03/2020 14:37

I dint think it will hurt your baby but your hair must be fried!

inselfisolationnow · 14/03/2020 14:40

Why are you bleaching your hair so much?

UserV · 14/03/2020 14:40

FFS STOP!

Don't dye it again.

Halloweenbabyy · 14/03/2020 14:40

Sad my hair is pretty much ruined yes. At this point I’m not really bothered about my hair just the baby really Sad

Halloweenbabyy · 14/03/2020 14:42

It was a dip dye kit thing from L’Oreal so mostly on the ends rather than roots, rather than a full head of bleach. I don’t think much has touched my scalp thankfully.

OP posts:
inselfisolationnow · 14/03/2020 14:43

But why??

Halloweenbabyy · 14/03/2020 14:45

I guess I just wanted to cheer myself up. And then it all went terribly wrong.

@Halloweenbabyy

Don't worry. I am sure your baby will be OK. Flowers

It's like we get advice to not touch a drop of alcohol when we're pregnant, but I had a glass of wine a couple of times a month when I was carrying my kids, and they were fine. Most stuff - in (small) moderation - is not harmful.

Don't bleach your hair again though. You mad peroxide babe! Grin

lilyheather1 · 14/03/2020 14:47

Step away from the dye!

Halloweenbabyy · 14/03/2020 14:52

I don’t even do things like this normally 😭 I dunno what’s possessed me to do it 😱

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 14/03/2020 14:54

Advice is that dying your hair while pregnant is fine, but you have gone a bit overboard. I very much doubt there would be any hair to LO especially as it has been on the ends not scalp. For now focus on deep conditioning the ends and trying to restore your hair and give dying it a break.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 14/03/2020 14:54

Harm to LO not hair to LO

inselfisolationnow · 14/03/2020 14:55

It won't have harmed your baby.
Buy some opalex for your poor hair though

Halloweenbabyy · 14/03/2020 15:02

I feel like shaving it all off Sad

OP posts:
SallyWD · 14/03/2020 15:08

That's excessive. I only use organic brown henna on my hair because I don't want chemicals to harm me. I definitely wouldn't use chemical dye if I was pregnant.

Halloweenbabyy · 14/03/2020 15:14

@SallyWD I only use henna normally. From lush. 😭. I have really bad SPD and most of the time I can just walk but I need crutches. The easiest shop for me to go into is super drug and I just keep going in there to get out of the house 😭 I’m pretty mortified with my self.

BritWifeinUSA · 14/03/2020 15:17

If it went wrong get a professional to correct it. You’re just going to make it worse.

Find a better coping strategy.

cricketmum84 · 14/03/2020 15:20

Baby will be fine but your hair might fall out...

zep123 · 14/03/2020 15:25

If you are dying or bleaching your hair you should make sure you're in a ventilated room to stop you from inhaling all the chemicals. If you had used it on the roots I would say that's not a great thing to do.

As for trying to ombre your own hair that is just silly, hairdressers charge like £100 to do it as it takes skill. If you have knowledge on how to dye hair then yea the £10 packet could work.

Don't shave your hair off you will regret it.

SallyWD · 14/03/2020 15:26

@halloweenbabyy It sounds like a one off don't beat yourself up! I'm sure you won't make the same mistake again.

Halloweenbabyy · 14/03/2020 15:34

😱 I’m ridiculous 😭
