To not pay for a car accident

Manchestermanchester · 13/03/2020 19:45

I was reversing and touched a car at low speed (they were stationary). The guy instantly says he wants my insurance details etc. So I’m thinking agh excess and premium increase.

I then look at my car to find no damage. There is no way I could have caused the damage to his car. I drive a tiny car, it has plastic bumpers.

I’m refusing to pay for the repairs. I haven’t been provided with a cost etc. I would rather I went to my insurance company and asked them to prove the damage. People think I should just pay.

^if you were in the same position as me, you would be acting the same way. The witness only saw me reversing, there is no way I did that damage. They are clearing thinking “great they can get their van repaired for free. If you were in his position you would also do the same.

@Yabadee that’s awful I’m sorry to hear that. What happens with the car, will the insurance company repair? I don’t know much about insurance.

Yabu completely.

You reversed into someone and won't go through insurance because it will put your premium up 😂🤦🏻‍♀️.

Well obvs because you reversed into someone. Everyone has annoying claims at some point it's part of driving. It isn't you paying your insurer will assess if he's pulling a fast one (someone tried to on me years ago and they didn't pay).

But YOU need to take responsibility for YOUR actions. It really worries me people like you drive tbh.

Teateaandmoretea · 14/03/2020 19:21

you think it’s ok for people to pAy for damage they didn’t do?

No, but you did reverse into him and you need to take responsibility for that and the increase in premium for having an accident.

BogOffWinter · 14/03/2020 19:30

YABU

BogOffWinter · 14/03/2020 19:32

Also, it’s either you give him your insurance details and let them sort it or he reports you to the police.

Manchestermanchester · 14/03/2020 20:10

@Teateaandmoretea i didn’t cause any damage though.... and he will also have to put it on his insurance. So if both parties are suffering, it’s a bit bad right? I hope you report every little scuff you get, or that happens to you.

OP posts:
Manchestermanchester · 14/03/2020 20:11

^or else it would be the pot calling the kettle black. My car door has been dented due to my work car park having tiny spaces. You think I should report that “accident” to put up my car insurance Mx

Yabvvvvvvvu

Yabadee · 14/03/2020 20:22

@Manchestermanchester I don’t know yet, I have the hire car until next Friday at least. It’s technically DPs car and he is adamant he’s not having it written off. So just need to hope the costs come in under quite significantly.

It does need a new bumper, that’s all smashed in. But because of where the contact point is, with the Range Rover being higher, he has badly dented the metal where the reg plate is too. So god only knows 😔

Teateaandmoretea · 14/03/2020 20:36

i didn’t cause any damage though....

But you hit him, that is your fault.

Yes, I would absolutely tell my insurance company about this as it involves a third party.

cabbageking · 14/03/2020 20:43

He has your car reg and his insurance will find your insurer details and sort it with them directly. Unless you intend to deny the accident they will be paying for any damage that the experts say you caused.

Meaniebobeanie · 14/03/2020 20:55

Seriously hope you have to pay you sound so stupid

vegansprinkle · 14/03/2020 21:07

@Manchestermanchester

You hit a stationary vehicle. A stationary van. A stationary large vehicle.

And you still seem to think you are not at fault for anything.

The rest is just additional noise and bullshit.

#facepalm

OP posts:
Manchestermanchester · 14/03/2020 21:19

@vegansprinkle not at fault of causing that damage to the vehicle. No way. Specks of white paint? Not me. Damage not me. Touching another vehicle.

Anyway I can’t see the point of debating with a vegan.

OP posts:
Nicknacky · 14/03/2020 21:22

Now you are just sounding stupid.

vegansprinkle · 14/03/2020 21:39

@Manchestermanchester this thread (your posts) is an excellent testimony to not being able to debate with stupid.

FixTheBone · 14/03/2020 21:55

If you don't pay him, he'll get his insurance company to track you down.

If you do pay him, there's nothing to stop him doing exactly the same and denying you paid him since not declaring an accident stands a good chance of invalidating your insurance. (esp. if he's a dodgy git and claiming for damage you didn't do....)

Just take the hit and go through your insurance like you're supposed to.

Tistheseason17 · 14/03/2020 22:26

Women are so agreeable that they are often their own worst enemy
Eh, really? All these women disagreeing with you are agreeable? #facepalm #lalalaI'mnotlistening

Helmlover1 · 14/03/2020 22:29

OP, you sound very arrogant. ‘I hit another vehicle but I shouldn’t have to pay anything, I shouldn’t have to report it, my insurance premiums shouldn’t have to go up, I didn’t cause any damage blah blah blah’.

You are not qualified to decide how much damage you caused to another vehicle through your careless actions. An engineer would need to assess the van and they would make that decision. Who’s to say you haven’t caused unseen damage eg warning lights to come on.

It’s not up to you to decide- you’re just the party at fault.

Helmlover1 · 14/03/2020 22:39

I bet if the other person didn’t have a witness you’d be trying to deny involvement as well Hmm

GhostsInSnow · 14/03/2020 22:41

anyway I can’t see the point of debating with a vegan

Shark jumped.

You had a good run there though. Bravo.

Blondie1092 · 14/03/2020 23:09

😂 this thread is a piss take, right?

HunterHearstHelmsley · 14/03/2020 23:14

I had an accident several years ago. Not my fault and minimal damage. I reported to my insurance co as I should.

The other knobhead didn't. It gives me much glee that their insurance going forward was void. They tried to blame me when it was clearly their fault (scrapped the whole length of their car up my wheel arch and broke a wing mirror)

Report it to your insurance. They won't want to pay out for pre-existing damage anyway.
