Will you cancel holiday plans this summer?

Summer is a popular time for many families to go on holiday. But will you cancel this summer due to uncertainty regarding the virus and possible cancellations?

Probably wouldn't cancel if we but something booked but am kind of glad we lost our May holiday (booked with Thomas Cook and we never got round to rebooking) so decision was out of our hands and we got a full refund.

Livelovebehappy · 12/03/2020 20:15

Holiday booked mid April to Tenerife. Staying in a villa so hoping that will work in our favour - hotels are more likely to be vulnerable. I will definitely be going unless flight cancelled.

Justajot · 12/03/2020 20:18

We're unlikely to go abroad, so our trip in May wont be happening. I have no desire to try out the medical system in another country or be unwell while on holiday.

Scarlettpixie · 12/03/2020 20:20

We have booked Florida in August. I will loose £400 deposit if I cancel.

Will probably just follow the advice at the time. Wouldn’t be booking though if we hadn’t already.

bellabasset · 12/03/2020 20:21

Holiday in Italy in July so hoping this will be okay then. But listening to the special news bulletin this afternoon I'm wondering how long this will go on.

I wouldn't book a holiday though but would wait to see how the disease progresses.

No. I have a holiday coming up next month, I'm definitely not cancelling it.

Serin · 12/03/2020 20:24

We have booked a converted barn in Cornwall. I guess there are worse places to be quarantined.

Mandraki · 12/03/2020 20:29

Meant to be having a long weekend in Berlin at the end of next month but that is looking doubtful.

PianoTuner567 · 12/03/2020 20:30

I’ll go unless the FCO advise against it. July/August is a long way off, it might be over by then.

user764329056 · 12/03/2020 20:31

We have a Caribbean holiday booked for 10 of us, not cancelling

Twinkletoes888 · 12/03/2020 20:33

We have 11 nights in July in Menorca I’m going unless I’m told otherwise I have travel insurance I’ll just cross that bridge when I get too it

DrMadelineMaxwell · 12/03/2020 20:40

We are/were due to go to Sorrento in 4 weeks time.
TUI are taking it to mean that the travel advice of not to go to Italy will run only until the 3rd as that's when Italy has a provisional end date for it's lockdown.
We travel on the 6th, so they deem it that all holidays after the lockdown end date will still go ahead. That's too close for comfort in my opinion but TUI say that the 3rd stated by Italy suggests that's when the 'do not travel' advice runs until, despite there being no end date to that advice being posted on the gov website.

Fuckers!

We’ve got a UK cottage booked for Easter. Can’t see it being any worse there than here so might as well go and just be careful.

Dh is supposed to be going to France in May and I’m due to go to Croatia in June. I haven’t actually got any travel insurance yet.

BeardedMum · 12/03/2020 20:47

I predict there will be no travelling over summer. Countries will close their borders. I hope I am wrong.

Duckingell · 12/03/2020 20:49

Mmmmm.. I booked flights two weeks ago to go to USA to visit family at the end of June.

Just a few days later this all got serious and Virgin then promised that new bookings would be given fee free changes if necessary.

Im pissed off as I booked just before that cut off date, and prices for our flights are now £500 cheaper too.

I want to cancel and see how things pan out. However I won't get a refund unless govt cancels flights. Sad

muchtoosoon · 12/03/2020 20:50

By June, July and August C-19 should be at its least prevalent as it can't survive the heat, so in theory the summer should be okay (depending on weather patterns), the Autumn and winter numbers are likely to rise again. This is hypothesising that it follows the usual pattern of the corona virus family.

TravellingSpoon · 12/03/2020 20:51

Menorca in August.

Its ages away so will only cancel if told to.

Nanamilly · 12/03/2020 21:00

I cancelled a spring break trip to Italy with some of my grandchildren and I've no regrets as our government has since stopped admitting Italians/visitors to Italy into the country. Im not bothered about the money we won't be refunded.

Ive also cancelled staff leave and non of my sons carers/nurses will be going to their home country for annual leave anytime soon. My sons health comes first and its just today their capital city was placed on lockdown but Id cancelled their leave about 10 days ago.

Im happy to sit this pandemic out as are the rest of my family.

Nanamilly · 12/03/2020 21:04

I have no desire to try out the medical system in another country or be unwell while on holiday

The reality is that many countries considered poor reltions to the UK have a far better health service than the NHS and people would be fortunate to be in those countries if they became infected with the virus.

QueenofDestruction · 12/03/2020 21:08

You still take a risk at the moment that the country you are going to won't accept flights so it's not just about whether you feel safe going, and flight is a risk at the momenting.

poppyonastring · 12/03/2020 21:12

@DreamChaser23

Not booked anything yet. Thankfully. Me and DH went away for a big holiday abroad last year, so aren't too bothered if we can't go abroad this year.

SansaClegane · 12/03/2020 21:12

We're going to Germany for two weeks in August to visit family. Definitely will still be going - I think we'd likely be much better off if we came down with the virus over there!

QueenofDestruction · 12/03/2020 21:12

moment no idea where momenting came from

Skysblue · 12/03/2020 21:41

We had plans to go to Italy but hadn’t booked. Not going now! Gonna do something in UK instead mostly so is easy to get medical support if I get ill.
