Will you cancel holiday plans this summer?

Summer is a popular time for many families to go on holiday. But will you cancel this summer due to uncertainty regarding the virus and possible cancellations?

Am supposed to be going to Italy in May. Doesn't look like it will happen. Won't get any money back unless they cancel the flights.

BeAnythingBeKind · 12/03/2020 17:23

Nope... As a family, we are going to Disney, saved forever to be able afford it, and the age of the kids, it will be our last chance. Unless the travel agents cancel.... We will be going.

Boom45 · 12/03/2020 17:27

We're booked to go to spain first week in April, staying with family so the only thing I'll lose out on is flights if we did have to cancel. I'll be going tho, so long as we're all fit and well and the flights arent cancelled. It's easier for us though because if we get stuck in Spain we can easily stay with family and I could "work from home" there too.

booked end of last year for Naples in October this year hoping by then all will be alright as ive already paid 3/4 of the money will probably not find out till nearer the time wether we will be able to go or not, summer end of June planning to go round Scotland on motor bike but haven't booked any accomadation yet so could change plans if needed

thenightsky · 12/03/2020 17:30

We have to make our final payment of over 1k on 6th April for our trip to Madeira in early July. I'm wavering tbh. Only paid £400 so far, which I could just about bear to lose. July seems so far away and I really, really want to go.

rookiemere · 12/03/2020 17:30

Was due to go for a weekends skiing today to France - not going as all my friends dropped out and didn't want to be stuck there on my own all money lost but just didn't fancy it on my own.

Meant to have a week in the Lake District at Easter with extended family, DS meant to go on school trip to Nice in May and have a big trip booked to Costa Rica in the summer. I am already looking at deferring the summer trip until next Easter and will consider that nearer the time.

I think anyone who books a holiday now for this year is being a bit silly.

Ohhhthepain · 12/03/2020 17:30

Currently drinking wine in the french quarter of New Orleans, I’m high risk but taking extra hygiene precautions, hoping travelling home will be straightforward. Have a trip booked in June for Singapore and not considering cancelling at this stage.

It’s a weird mix of not knowing what will happen, anxiety but the need to keep the economy going. I’m just as in danger if I catch flu, no treatment would help if bad enough.

We are avoiding crowds and being totally overzealous with hand washing.

Sallycinammonbangsthedruminthe · 12/03/2020 17:30

No not cancelling my august joint to elevenerife! Unless specifically directed to by the government or travel agents...I fully intend to go with my family

TwoZeroTwoZero · 12/03/2020 17:32

We're going to a cottage in Cornwall at Easter and as it stands at the moment we're still going.

PrinnyPree · 12/03/2020 17:35

Got a holiday booked in North Italy end of September (because a friend is getting married there and going to make a holiday of it the week before the wedding) really hope everything has blown over by then especially for my friends sake. Xxx Don't intend to cancel unless theres a travel ban, haven't booked the flights yet but booked one hotel a few weeks ago with a decent cancellation policy. Will have a 4 month old baby in tow.

TeetotalKoala · 12/03/2020 17:36

We're going to a Eurocamp in Northern France in August. Not even considering cancelling.

Whenisithometime · 12/03/2020 17:38

I am booked for a week away in The Algarve in July. I really don’t know if it’s a good idea to go but I don’t want to miss out on a lovely holiday either

DangerousBeanz · 12/03/2020 17:51

We're supposed to be going to France in May. Right when they are predicting the virus to peak.

I don't think it'll be happening.

Shodan · 12/03/2020 18:01

I'm due to go to Spain for a week at the end of April. Whether or not I go depends on a few things- if the schools are off, I might not be able to get ds2 looked after; if flights are cancelled; if I'd have to self-isolate for 2 weeks afterwards. I'm not prepared to cancel just yet though.

Our main summer holiday is in Wales this year, in self-contained AirBnBs, so I very much doubt whether that will need to be cancelled.

With both, I will definitely be going unless advised otherwise.

maddy68 · 12/03/2020 18:03

Nope. Currently in morroco , wil be back for a week then going on a cruise. Back for a week then heading off for Europe for the summer

Mummyshark2019 · 12/03/2020 18:45

Hell yes! Not risking my health and not risking potentially losing all that money!

AnyFucker · 12/03/2020 18:51

Booked to the Canaries in May

Flights already paid. Waiting to see if they are cancelled by the govt...hopefully not.

We only paid a deposit on the villa...the balance is on arrival so won't be too much out of pocket if we can't use it

Have a big, big holiday in August. Hoping everything settled by then.

Iooselipssinkships · 12/03/2020 18:53

Florida in August for 3 weeks to get married and do all the parks, me, partner (feel wanky saying fiancè) and 2 kids.
Even if travel is banned I'll be blowing us up a paddle boat and rowing us there.
Just gutted it's spoilt some of the excitement (selfish I know)

AnyFucker · 12/03/2020 18:54

I am on annual leave next week. In January we considered booking a long weekend in an Italian city

Thank fuck we were too busy to organise it. Am going to flop out in our (UK) holiday home instead.

Tulipstulips · 12/03/2020 18:56

Not yet. I might not book but I wouldn’t cancel anything I’ve already booked. We’re supposed to go away in May half term and I’m not going to cancel until the absolute last minute.

Tulipstulips · 12/03/2020 18:58

On the other hand, I think you’d be crazy to goon a cruise right at the minute. Absolutely crazy.

HairyFloppins · 12/03/2020 19:03

Meant to be flying into NYC with Norwegian in August. Can't see that happening. I think Norwegian will go bust and I am not travelling if the virus is still about.

TheFairyCaravan · 12/03/2020 19:19

We're going to Fuerteventura in May unless we're told not to by the FCO.

Natsku · 12/03/2020 19:42

I've got a holiday booked in the UK in June (I'm not in the UK so its an overseas holiday for me) and worrying that I might have to cancel but I stupidly didn't buy the flexi tickets because they cost twice as much as the normal ones so I won't get my money back if I cancel now so holding out to see if either things are OK by then or then there's a travel ban and I can get my money back.

JoshArcherStoleMyTractor · 12/03/2020 19:44

We haven't booked yet, usually would have but there were some uncertainties with work changes and when would be good to go. We won't be booking until there's a clearer picture of the medium term impact
