Weinstein will most likely die in prison

23 years - nearly the maximum sentence of 29. I hope he feels every single one of them. Nothing can give his victims back the years of safety, happiness and faith in humanity he stole from them, but this at least is a just sentence. I hope all the brave, powerful women who testified against him (and all of the women who never got that chance) feel some kind of vindication tonight.

Doubt he'll last a year - the Epstein virus will get him.

AufderAutobahn · 11/03/2020 17:53

Yep. I would be surprised if he lived a year of the sentence he got but considering the lives he must have ruined, and the fact the women he assaulted and raped will live with the consequences of what he did for far longer than the time he will spend in jail, I'm glad he got a substantial sentence.

LochJessMonster · 11/03/2020 17:54

I think an appeal will reduce his sentence significantly

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 11/03/2020 17:54

He deserves every day of that sentence

Rhubarbpeony · 11/03/2020 17:54

Reallt? Why?

UYScuti · 11/03/2020 17:56

I wonder if he will go like Epstein did? I dont feel like he quite ran in the same circles as Epstein?

HisBetterHalf · 11/03/2020 17:57

He will still be better looked after in there than all the homeless on the streets

PristineCondition · 11/03/2020 17:58

He will be dead within 2 years. Loose lips sink ships and all that

Porcupineinwaiting · 11/03/2020 17:59

Do they get released after serving half their sentence in the States?

Rhubarbpeony · 11/03/2020 18:00

He will still be better looked after in there than all the homeless on the streets

In some ways this is true (he will have shelter and regular meals) but in other ways I think you are underestimating how awful prison is.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/03/2020 18:01

I don't think they do, but he won't make that.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/03/2020 18:03

I'm no expert but everything I've ever seen about US prisons has looked horrific. In this case, I feel no qualms about that at all. He was a serial predator and he ruined lives. Now his own life is ruined and his life's work tainted. It would be lovely to think it might give some others pause, but I'll settle for the knowledge that he can't harm another woman now.

Rhubarbpeony · 11/03/2020 18:04

They have parole in the US so it’s possible.

I was amazed at a R4 interview this morning, when it was said his defence lawyers had asked for a minimum sentence on health grounds.

Given HW's miraculous recovery and ability to walk without a frame the moment the trail was over, it seemed a bit far fetched. Maybe he should have clung feebly to the zimmer frame for an extra couple of weeks.

TheVanguardSix · 11/03/2020 18:05

The guy’s an animal. I read Ronan Farrow’s book about Harvey Weinstein and the violation of women in Hollywood. They threw obstacle after obstacle at Ronan Farrow in order to discourage him from carrying on with his investigative work. He gave many women the courage to come forth and voice their trauma and humiliation. It’s a worthy read.

UYScuti · 11/03/2020 18:07

Loose lips sink ships
If we are talking about Epstein then yes, he had dirt/info on 'important people'
I dont think that applies to Weinstein

Sparklesocks · 11/03/2020 18:11

I’m glad. But also disappointed that he was allowed to commit the offences he did with no consequences for so many years.

roseapothecary · 11/03/2020 18:15

@TheVanguardSix

Yes Catch and Kill is a great book, and gives an insight in how so many people knew what Weinstein was doing and conspired to keep it covered up

AntMansVan · 11/03/2020 18:16

Hope so.

Fluffybutter · 11/03/2020 18:20

Here’s hoping ! 🥂

Hirsutefirs · 11/03/2020 18:26

He doesn’t have to finish the entire 23 years.

They’ll let him just do what he can, then they chuck him into a hole in the ground.

Patroclus · 11/03/2020 18:31

Rich people dont do proper time in america. He'l be cushy as fuck.

Leaannb · 11/03/2020 18:43

@Sarahlou63 is that why Prince Andrew is refusing to speak to the FBI?

mbosnz · 11/03/2020 18:46

Oh dear. How sad. Never mind. Grin

I hope his remaining time on this Earth is nasty, brutish, and short.

Leaannb · 11/03/2020 18:47

@Patroclus He os being transferred to a New York State Penitentiary. He will not have an enjoyable life. Rest assured. He will more than likely die in Prison and not because of the Goverment or any conspiracy theory bs. He will die due to who he is incarcerated with. I dont know where people get the idea that US State Prisons are cake walks cause rest assured they are not
