Was I in the wrong?? or was she - Road rage

Whycantistaymotivated · 10/03/2020 10:27

Ok fully prepared to be told I was BU even though I don't think I was.....

A main A road into the city centre is currently having major roadworks(widening) which started in January and will last until December, it's adding about 30 mins onto a journey each way. At one point on the road it goes from two lanes to one lane.

So I'm in a queue turning left onto the A road with the roadworks, been sat in it with everyone else for a good 20 mins. There are lights to join the A road with two lanes, left hand lane(where I am) to obviously turn left and the right lane to go straight or right only with islands to separate the lanes. As I get through the lights(am still in the left lane but on the A road now) I notice a small black car (lady driver) in the right hand lane go around the island but turn left on the A road so she is now in the right hand lane on the A road.

A few metres down is where the right lane needs to filter into the left lane, everyone is being polite and taking their turn iyswim until I let the car next to me join so they are now front of me. Now the black car is next to me she is revving her engine while we wait for the traffic to move up a bit as the car in front moves off I follow as I had already let them in she then tries to get in front on me nearly hitting my car but I was slightly ahead now so she had no choice but to go behind me.

While we were in the single lane there were lots of horn honking and hand gestors etc. She then was stuck at a pedestrian crossing while I carried on.

Now the A road is back to two lanes, I'm in the left lane when I notice a bit further down a bus stopping so I move over to the right lane then 2 or 3 car lengths behind me ( I had plenty of room to move over) was the black car again. The honking and hand waving contiuned

After the bus she moves over to the left lane so is next to me when we stop at the next lights, she is slightly ahead of me and I notice she's taking a picture of my car with her phone!! Shock

As the lights change she cuts in front of the car in front of me, they are turning right so I move back into the left lane, she moves in front of me and starts to slow right down. Now we are past the roadworks the traffic is moving steady at 30 but she is going 15 at most, I knew if I moved over she would as well.

Now my 3 yr old is in the car with me, am on the way to drop off, clearly this lady thought I had done something so I took a different route and didn't see her again.

Was I BU to not let her cut in? Or was she for being a CF not wanting the wait like the rest of us? I am quite a passive person but hate queue jumpers!

Also what can she do with the picture of my car?

She was being a massive CF and also more than a little highly strung to then harass you afterwards. You done the right thing every step of the way. You were courteous and allowed someone in before you and you avoided her when she was harassing you. You really can't account for crazy, best to avoid at all costs!

MrsCasares · 10/03/2020 10:34

Yanbu. I hate people like this who feel her time is more important than yours. Not sure what she’d do with the photos.

AlexaCanBuggerOff · 10/03/2020 10:35

She can't do anything with the photo, she is batshit. Do an Elsa and let it go Smile

ArabSprings · 10/03/2020 10:35

She sounds batshit. Probably extremely late for something and thinking completely irrationally that her being in front therefore cutting one second off her journey would somehow help matters. You were not BU.

ArabSprings · 10/03/2020 10:36

And she only took the photo or pretended to, to wind you up. She can’t do anything with it. Pathetic behaviour.

PhilCornwall1 · 10/03/2020 10:37

She'll probably post the photo on Social Media with a load of abuse.

Ilikewinter · 10/03/2020 10:39

She was an absolute twat!

HopeYouStepOnALego · 10/03/2020 10:40

If she posts the photo anywhere then hopefully someone will pull her up and tell her it's illegal to use your phone when your driving. She sounds like one of these entitled drivers who think they are more important than anyone else. You did nothing wrong OP.

HopeYouStepOnALego · 10/03/2020 10:41

*you're, not your!

Mittens030869 · 10/03/2020 10:42

YADNBU! I hate drivers like this, who think they take priority over everyone else.

TweetUsOnFacebook · 10/03/2020 10:43

What a twat. She can't do anything with the photo because she shouldn't have been using her phone.
Just let it go. You did nothing wrong.
We have a similar set up here, roadworks where 2 lanes merge. Usually the 'every car let's one car in' system works but you always get the odd twat assuming they have the right to push in, especially those that zoom up the right lane when everyone else is making an orderly queue on the left lane Angry

GinDaddy · 10/03/2020 10:53

The person who took a photo of your car is ridiculous. YANBU.

PhilCornwall1 · 10/03/2020 10:58

She can't do anything with the photo because she shouldn't have been using her phone.

But the woman was a complete bellend, so she won't think like that.

spongejack · 10/03/2020 11:06

YANBU! The moment she used the right hand lane going round an island to queue jump, then she was wrong!

She won't do anything with the photo. That was a passive aggressive move, ignore it.

On Saturday the M23 southbound was shut, huge queue to get onto the A22 (from the M25, caused by the M23 closure), I didn't want or need the A22 so was in the left hand lane of the M25. More than one person, was also on this page passing to literally 100s if cars queuing to get onto the A22 and then just trying to cut in in front of people that had been waiting ages in the queue. This meant they were obstructing the left hand lane of the M25 until they could someone to let them in..... madness!!

BrimfulofSasha · 10/03/2020 11:11

I really wish I was an undercover cop in these situations- she tried to cue jump around the island, she doesn't understand merge in turn, you should never use a horn in anger- only to let someone know you are there, she undertook and she used her mobile.
What a Twat!

redwinefine · 10/03/2020 11:27

She's a CF. Get a cam so you can actually do something with her info in future. She COULD put pic on Facebook, calling you all the names of the day, dangerous driver etc but would you actually give a FF?

mrsBtheparker · 10/03/2020 11:28

Whenever I encounter idiots like this I usually kiss my hand and blow it towards them, it's really annoying for them.

TreeTopTim · 10/03/2020 11:29

YANBU. She sounds deranged. I hate those people who slow right down and then just get in your way. It makes them look like a twat. Also I would say a high majority of cars these days have a dash cam so everything on the road is recorded.

BigGee · 10/03/2020 11:31

If she posts the photo somewhere and you spot it, inform the police about the dangerous driver who was trying to cut you up, driving aggressively and who took out her mobile phone whilst MOVING and used it to take a photo of you, here's the photo online and here's her name. There ya go. She's facing a fine for that, at the very least. Driving without due care and attention and all that. You don't need to do a thing else.

Oh and no, you weren't unreasonable. You merge in turn in situations like that. You'd already merged the person beside you. She's no more important than anyone else.

JuniperSnowberry · 10/03/2020 11:39

I worry about the sanity of people who can't let stuff go, even if they were in the right. She wasn't by the way.

She should not be using a phone whilst driving, so even if by some freak of nature someone says there is a picture of you driving from another driver, say

"how fantastic that there is evidence that she is indeed a dangerous drivier. She used her phone whilst in her car which is illegal, worth £200 in fines and 6 points on her licence."

You cannot use your phone, in whilst sat waiting in traffic or at traffic lights. Illegal.

Whycantistaymotivated · 10/03/2020 11:43

Thanks

I have done an Elsa now Wink

You have to turn the engine off. You're legally responsible and held to be in charge of a motor vehicle if the engine is running. You could be parked in the supermarket and the handbrake could be on, but ultimately the law doesn't care - if the engine is running, using a phone is illegal. That's in Scotland, anyway, afaik. She's not just aggressive, she's selfish. Imagine if she'd hit someone. My friend was killed by a driver looking at her phone. There's not enough punishment in the world for people who do that.

TheWordWomanIsTaken · 10/03/2020 12:04

This happened to me a few months ago, some chap thought he would cut in front of me due to lane closure / roadworks. I had already let other cars merge but he was being a cunty fucker so I edged forward.
When the roadworks came to an end, he overtook me - no problem. Then moved back in front of me and slowed right down. I didn't realise what was happening at that point so went to overtake him and he moved out, when I moved back he moved back. This went on for about five miles on a dual carriage way. I think he got more and more wound up because me and my daughter were laughing at him.
Stupid dick he was.
You can only forget about it OP. Stupid is as stupid does.

PolloDePrimavera · 10/03/2020 12:29

What a dick, her not you. And so dangerous, hopefully she doesn't injure someone with her shit driving.

MrsClatterbuck · 10/03/2020 12:37

Regarding the traffic merging from 2 lanes into 1 I remember years ago when travelling on a busy dual carriageway which had road works there were signs showing the distance to the point of traffic merging and saying for traffic to get into the inside lane. Cue loads of cars bypassing the queue of traffic in the inside lane to beat them. Well one morning they got a bit of a shock as there were police on bikes stopping them and not sure if they got booked but at least they probably got a telling off.
