To hate matching up husband's socks

ValedictoryMessage · 09/03/2020 17:28

I just wear any old socks as long as really similar typedont have to be a pair. No one sees them. Job done.

Husband feels weird if socks aren't matched.

He does 99% of the washing in the house. He has a system and I leave him to it. On the odd occasion I di get involved I feel irrationally annoyed about the sock matching.

He has a scotch of black socks that are identical apart from a different coloured seam. Presumably designed for people like

Am I being unreasonable in just wanting to dump his socks in a heap? .

Dh has all black socks.Yes you should dump, let him do it.

urinetroubleagain · 09/03/2020 17:34

Yanbu. Never start pairing up socks for anyone if you yourself don’t mind odds.
Major pita. Just leave all socks in a designated box and everyone helps themselves, marching up to their own (fussy or not) standards.

Knittedfairies · 09/03/2020 17:35

Buy some sock clips They go through the washing machine and the tumble dryer, or hang on the line.

opticaldelusion · 09/03/2020 17:40

Wearing odd socks is basically the same as shitting in your own handbag.

Ruby8719 · 09/03/2020 17:41

If you hardly ever do it you could at least do it properly when you do? It’s not unusual to want your socks to match.

It’s the little things in life we do for each other that count.

Burgerandchipvan · 09/03/2020 17:41

I encouraged my OH to start wearing jazzy socks as it makes pairing them up significantly easier. Me and the toddler already have an excellent collection of jaunty socks.

grafittiartist · 09/03/2020 17:43

Yep- worst job ever!
4 black sock wearers in this house- and I hate sorting them out.
I will only buy any of them black socks if there is something identifiable on them- like coloured toes!

bugbhaer · 09/03/2020 17:46

Wait until he wants them konmaring.

Like I do.

AlexaCanBuggerOff · 09/03/2020 17:49

@opticaldelusion Wait, what? 🤣

PleasantVille · 09/03/2020 17:49

This is a totally avoidable problem, just don't do it. YABU to do unnecessary jobs that you hate.

Sypha · 09/03/2020 17:51

Don’t do it. Easy peasy

user1333796 · 09/03/2020 17:58

God, no YANBU. I just dump all of DH's clean washing on his side of the bed on the rare occasions I even take his upstairs. That's usually if someone is due round and I want to clear the dining table...

Actually I did once pair up his socks. I was pregnant and nesting, and I was really fucked off with him saying he needed new socks when all he seemed to do was buy bloody socks and they seemed to be everywhere and taking over. So I found all the socks in his wardrobe and drawers and the laundry baskets and paired them all up and counted them and might have even posted it on social media to prove a point. There was an OBSCENE amount and he hasn't bought any new socks since and this was a few years ago. So I definitely don't pair them Grin.

LizziesTwin · 09/03/2020 18:01

I hate pairing his socks as he has very sensitive feet & buys socks that have R or L on them. I don’t believe his feet are that sensitive & think they should at least have the R or L in a bright colour.

leiaskye · 09/03/2020 18:05

My DH buys the same make, same colour so they all match.

I just put them in the drawer loose, easy.

CaptainCabinets · 09/03/2020 18:06

I won’t wear odd socks but I’ll happy pair up any random black socks for DP as he doesn’t mind Grin

Fieldofgreycorn · 09/03/2020 18:07

Buy some sock clips They go through the washing machine and the tumble dryer, or hang on the line.

That’s some fucken advanced household management that is Wine

isseywith4vampirecats · 09/03/2020 18:08

like leiaskye my OH wears the same make all black socks so just chuck them in loose I do have to match my ones as they are different but don't mind doing only one lot of socks

annabell22 · 09/03/2020 18:11

DH has a collection of identical black socks. My logical brain says that means they don't need pairing as any two socks will do. He disagrees.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 09/03/2020 18:12

there almost no chance of anyone in this house wearing an actual pair of socks unless they are patterned, and I don't even pair the patterned ones up , all the socks go through the wash and get flung into the sock bag when dry....you do your own sock searching chezLaurie.

Pairing socks was the ultimate chore when "I'm booooooooooored..." was uttered

Boom45 · 09/03/2020 18:13

When I was a teenager my dad, all 3 of my brothers and i all had roughly the same size feet and all wore black socks. Whoever dealt with the laundry used to just shove all the black socks in a big bag in the airing cupboard and we just grabbed a "pair" every morning. It was a good system....

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 09/03/2020 18:13

We had sick clip things but they didn't get used , now dh and ds roll the top of their socks before putting them in the laundry bin, they get washed and pretty much stay together surprisingly.

gamerchick · 09/03/2020 18:15

Just leave him to it. Personally I don't like odd socks, if I see someone in odd socks I wonder what other areas of their lives are lacking. Even though that's daft.

Personally I like pairing socks up. Stick a film on and bosh Grin

DelphiniumBlue · 09/03/2020 18:16

I'll pair of its easy. No one in this house is allowed to buy their own socks unless they follow my system- DH has black socks, or discreet white or grey patterns on black. DS1 ha s black with coloured motifs. DS2 has coloured socks and Ds3 has coloured with motifs! I have whatever I fancy, but not anything that could be mistaken for anyone elses.
My system work s. I don't do all the washing these days, all D'S are adults, but it's easy to i.d. any dead socks lying around.I
And it's not unreasonable for adults ( or children) to pair their own socks. Or equally, not to bother at all.

Just sayin'

BarbaraofSeville · 09/03/2020 18:37

If he wants his socks pairing he does it himself surely? I wouldn't give it a second thought. When I do socks DP just gets a pile of socks on his side of the bed and he puts them away. Seeing as I'm not in the habit of looking in his sock drawer, I don't know if he pairs them.
