Something strange happening with banking

belay · 09/03/2020 16:30

My banking app shows cleared and pending transactions. There have been items in pending all day today. That never happens. AIBU to think this could be because of the instability of the stock market ?

@milveycrohn Which bank are you with please? I wish mine would show pending credits!!

TryingToBeBold · 09/03/2020 20:10

Quite normal, especially with Friday and the weekend just gone. Often transactions over the weekend will be pending until during the week.

willowpatterns · 09/03/2020 20:15

Totally normal to have pending transactions (technically called 'clearing' in banking parlance).

It's always happened like that - we just couldn't see them. But now the banks can show you the transactions that are in the pipeline, so to speak.

WinterCat · 09/03/2020 20:16

My apps started to show this in the last few weeks/months. It’s a recent thing bug unrelated to the stock market.

Oh no!

It's the fifth Horseman of the Apocalypse: Christ, War, Famine, Pestilence, and Pending Transactions.

You need more hand sanitizer Wink

countrygirl99 · 09/03/2020 20:38

As Ginnotgym said it's a change in the regulatory requirements. Nothing sinister

springiscoming12 · 09/03/2020 20:43

This can’t be serious - has everyone lost the plot?!?

Zombiemum1946 · 09/03/2020 20:46

Ask the bank.

ImNotChangingMyUsernameAgain · 09/03/2020 20:47

Google bank ring fencing OP. Since last year the main banks have had to ring fence our money and separate it from their investment banking activities.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 09/03/2020 20:47

The old cheque clearing cycle could take a week. BACS transactions (bulk payment system) take 3 days to be processed eg direct debits, payroll etc.

Dylaninthemovies1 · 09/03/2020 20:48

TSB changed how they show pending transactions a few weeks ago due to some new regulations

Devlesko · 09/03/2020 21:07

same happened to me, someone should have paid me and it's been pending in their account all day. I know they aren't lying.

Pollaidh · 09/03/2020 21:14

Bank money held for consumers in current and savings accounts is ring fenced, and not 'risked' on the stock exchange. Think that was a regulation brought in to avoid a repeat of 2008.

So the answer is no, the market troubles have nothing to do with it.

StealthPolarBear · 09/03/2020 21:18

Op asked a question which clearly to her was sensible. Mild teasing is one thing but disbelief that someone doesn't know. Get over yourselves.

milveycrohn · 09/03/2020 21:31

@HavenDilemma bank was santander. Banks cant process everyones payroll on the same day, so it was procesed shortly before, and i noticed it as pending. Or i think technically the on line account shows a current balance and an available balance, which included the pending payment

TrainspottingWelsh · 09/03/2020 22:09

The banks are stockpiling transactions

LaneBoy · 09/03/2020 23:33

My NatWest app has been doing that for ages, I love it

buttermilkwaffles · 10/03/2020 00:37

@HavenDilemma

Monzo bank also shows pending credits.

AnotherMurkyDay · 10/03/2020 00:48

I forgot it was never not like this until reading this post. Explains why I used to go into unplanned overdraft and never do now. I thought I'd got smarter, nope the banking just makes better sense!

FelicisNox · 10/03/2020 18:01

Is there a reason for utterly bitchy comments on here? Hmm

She asked a simple question. God forbid any of you lot don't know something and have to ask for advice.
Feel better now you've probably make her feel like shit?

Jesus H Christ. What a roll call of absolute b*tches.

Ignore them OP. You've had a few decent responses explaining the reason for the pending transactions and it's entirely normal. Things changed with the apps a while back.

Just ignore the trolls from hell.

chubbylover78 · 10/03/2020 18:03

All payments made from your account will be pending until they haven't cleared through the receiving businesses account.

henryscatoscar · 10/03/2020 18:12

Probably normal. If you are worried then phone the bank and speak to someone at least it would give Give peace of mind and they can clarify ‘how it all works’
