Tiktok driving me mad

Wetfloortiles · 07/03/2020 20:48

I should say, I am a mum to 3 teenagers, and also a secondary teacher, so maybe I'm 'exposed' to it more than most but......tiktok is driving me MAD. It's almost impossible to talk to my children without then doing some stupid tiktok dance whilst talking, or quoting from it. At work, all I see are kids tiktoking at lunch time, or in class, doing a stupid move or dance from it.

It's like a cult!!!!

Do it drive you mad as well?

Always something the kids are in to the current one is TikTok it will pass like everything else does, it’s just the in thing at the moment.
Just remember you prob did something or were into doing something that drove your parents mad!
Mine was singing Spice girl songs over and over on every car journeyGrin

vhs95 · 07/03/2020 21:33

Yup. My grandson stayed over and was on it most of the time. He thought I'd want to look at it with him - no. Lots of silly semi-rude songs. I'm hoping he gets bored with it or his mum removes it!

Fancydancer · 07/03/2020 22:02

It’s like that stupid mine craft dance they were all doing a year or so ago (the floss I think?). They just have no idea how stupid they look doing it...

OhhhPeee · 07/03/2020 22:07

I work in a school and find that some of our SEND students really struggle with it, to the point where they do their little dances involuntarily without even realising they are doing it. There was a fire drill a few weeks ago and some of them were incapable of lining up and standing still.

RightOnTheEdge · 07/03/2020 22:22

I saw this the other day its so funny Grin

Yep, my DC have been going crazy perfecting the ‘Renegrade’ dance. Driving me potty.

Thehop · 07/03/2020 22:27

It’s nuts. They look like they’re guiding bloody planes into land whilst you’re talking to them.

Justanotherlurker · 07/03/2020 22:30

The new, age old rebellion, is around finding a different social media platform, it's not a fad but just the generational thing, if it wasn't Chinese owned apple would have bought it out by now.

As soon as it becomes mainstream kids will move onto something else.

U2HasTheEdge · 07/03/2020 22:32

My daughter is constantly doing some dance move too.

It makes me smile seeing teens doing things which they think looks cool, we have all done it :)

Puffinhead · 07/03/2020 22:41

@Thehop, very accurate description! With ants in their pants.

DianneWhatcock · 07/03/2020 22:46

I HATE IT

When my daughter does the dances it gives me the absolute rage

To get my own back, I've taken to randomly doing ridiculous dances in front of her she practically dies of cringe esp when I was doing it in Sainsbury's earlier

SunshineAvenue · 07/03/2020 22:52

At least they're moving

Shouldbedoing · 08/03/2020 07:27

My thoughts exactly. Good to.see my DD moving

insideoutsider · 08/03/2020 08:26

It reminds me of the story of the Pied Piper, with someone controlling all our children to do the same dance at the same time. My kids and nephews constantly zone out and make involuntarily movements to these tiktoks!
I uninstalled it from their phones indefinitely... They still went to find it on YouTube!

Can't win.

Wetfloortiles · 08/03/2020 08:52

@RightOnTheEdge
That is hysterical, I have never seen him before!!!!! Literally sums up my life at home and school!!!!

So glad it's not just me !! I often inadvertently star in the tiktoks whilst walking around my house in my PJs Angry

RightOnTheEdge · 08/03/2020 22:34

Wetfloortiles it properly made me laugh 😂
My dd9 is always doing it and random dabs or flossing. It looks like she's got a twitch.

RightOnTheEdge · 08/03/2020 22:36

Dianne Grin Grin
I might try that just for fun.

Msgiggles30 · 08/03/2020 22:44

Yes I hate it too! Also a teacher. It's also pretty scary that any random can message children and many parents don't realise this. Most of my friends have now made thier own tiktok accounts to follow their children and many have banned them due to the totally inappropriate songs they are copying and giving clues to their location like in their uniforms etc Sad

DianneWhatcock · 09/03/2020 15:37

@Msgiggles30

I have an account (obvs don't post 🤦‍♀️😂) and follow my dc on it.. .she's set to private so only her confirmed followers can see her stuff but do you know if randoms can still message them? As that would be worrying ☹️

Sweetbabycheezits · 09/03/2020 15:45

Same madness over here! DH and I have started doing random dance moves whenever DD is around. When she eye rolls and tells us we're not even doing it right, I shout "I'M FREE STYLING!" 😂

Sweetbabycheezits · 09/03/2020 15:48

DianneWhatcock I have the account, and DD and I both have the app on our phones, so I can see everything she does. I check regularly, and she has never had a comment or a dm from anyone other than her known friends. Her privacy is locked down, and her profile isn't public, so maybe that makes a difference?

NoNameNoGame · 09/03/2020 15:52

Renegade. Renegade..

DianneWhatcock · 09/03/2020 19:19

@Sweetbabycheezits

Hahaha 😂 that's what I say to dd!! That I'm "freestyling" oh she goes mad 🤣

DianneWhatcock · 09/03/2020 19:20

And yeah dds is the same private and locked down so hopefully that means no one can message her who she doesn't have as a friend

QuestionableMouse · 09/03/2020 19:21

@Fancydancer that was from fortnite not minecraft. Minecraft is basically virtual lego with monsters and animals. No dancing.
