How often do you drink alcohol?

Poptart4 · 07/03/2020 14:19

I drink 4 nights a week.

Sometimes I'll have just 1 or 2 drinks to unwind after a long day, sometimes abit more (weekends).

Just curious to see where I stand compared to everyone else?

I drink one or two glasses of wine with my evening meal every night. Actually it's probably 6 nights a week as there's usually one night where I have to drive after my evening meal, or am on a train etc.

Livebythecoast · 07/03/2020 18:27

I haven't had an alcoholic drink since NYE. I thought I'd do dry January to 'prove' I could do it as my weekend glasses of wine crept into the week too and I thought I 'needed' a glass of wine to relax after work. Felt so much better not drinking through January that I just continued. Downloading the app made me realise how much money and calories I was saving. I'm not saying I'll never touch a drop again but I'm happy not drinking and enjoy my ovaltine at bedtime which makes me sleepy in a nice, comfy way and I wake up much brighter Smile

These threads always go the same way with the pious 'I rarely drink' types piling on and the rest of us who like drink staying stchum!

What is "pious" about answering the question honestly ? Hmm

Nor am I sure that is the way 'these threads always go' - It is only from MN I hear of so many folk who drink so regularly and so much alcohol night after night.

TooManySocks · 07/03/2020 18:30

Sometimes I'll go 2 months or more without fancying a drink, other times I'll have a gin or two four or five times a week. Totally depends!

iamyourequal · 07/03/2020 18:31

I have stopped completely at the moment. Prior to this I was drinking 5-6 nights a week. Usually a G&T and a bottle of beer or 2 a night during the week. Then at the weekend a G&T, a beer and 1-2 glasses of wine. I feel much better now I’ve stopped and hope I stay this way forever.

oohnicevase · 07/03/2020 18:33

@happymummy12345 .. do you work? How do you manage that ? I would think so hangovers because you are rarely sober !!😱

LargeGinOnTap · 07/03/2020 18:46

Depends bad week 6 nights a week good week 4 nights a week

During the week it's one small glass of wine
Weekend it's a lot more than that

LargeGinOnTap · 07/03/2020 18:48

Mumsnet is full of people who get tipsy on a thimbleful of champagne at Christmas. They exclaim in horror about anyone having drink more often. From my knowledge of friends and acquaintances this is not that usual a position. this with bells on

Dipi79 · 07/03/2020 18:49

Been sober 8 weeks and plan on staying abstinent.

SallyWD · 07/03/2020 18:52

Once a week or less

JoshArcherStoleMyTractor · 07/03/2020 18:55

2/3 glasses of wine (half to two thirds of a bottle) on a Friday or Saturday night a couple of times a month. Used to be at least a bottle of wine or two most weekends before DS and more when we were out which was every other weekend roughly. Didn't drink for nearly two years while pregnant and breastfeeding and my tolerance dropped massively, also dealing with a toddler when you have a hangover is not fun.

nosleepp · 07/03/2020 18:56

Once a month, if that

cobwebfew · 07/03/2020 18:56

One night a week, either Friday or Saturday night

MimiLaRue · 07/03/2020 18:57

None.
Makes me feel like $hit

Yup- me too. I look SO much better and younger without it too

Arrowfanatic · 07/03/2020 19:00

It varies, some weeks none, others I'll do a bottle of wine over the course of a week.

Today was my first wine in a month & I had 2 glasses.

I really do enjoy a glass of wine after work. Smile

Chienloup · 07/03/2020 19:01

About 5 or 6 time a year.

Marahute · 07/03/2020 19:01

Barely ever! Maybe once or twice a month, if that! And that will only be one drink usually.
I used to drink loads more, probably 3 or 4 nights a week (Fri, Sat, Sun and one other night)... but since having children it's reduced and reduced. Currently have a non-sleeping 1 year old who I share a bed with, which is the reason it is so very low right now. Also my husband has an alcohol dependency problem, so that means I am reluctant to drink around him.
I don't particularly miss it to be honest, although I do love a pint of bitter if the opportunity presents itself.

Frownette · 07/03/2020 19:02

namechange hope you can talk to your husband about the evenings.

TerrorWig · 07/03/2020 19:03

Once or twice a month. I don’t generally drink much either - a glass of wine with dinner maybe.

I think I’ve only drunk more than that on proper nights out and I still will only have maybe 4 drinks.

Partly because I get hideous beer fear the day after as I tend to think I’m hilarious when merry Blush, and partly because I physically can’t drink much.

user1494055864 · 07/03/2020 19:03

I had a couple of glasses of wine at Christmas. I'd rather drink tea!

Chienloup · 07/03/2020 19:04

Oh and I'm not being pious, I only drink when I go out properly. I was in a relationship with an alcoholic for a long time and I don't want to get into a situation where alcohol is the norm.
5 or 6 times a year is enough for me.

MimiLaRue · 07/03/2020 19:07

I had no idea not drinking alcohol every night means you are "pious" - ive heard it all now Grin

Elieza · 07/03/2020 19:07

One drink every few months if I feel like it. Or not. I can take it or leave it. My poison is cake. That’s pretty much daily. Sigh. :-(

SinkGirl · 07/03/2020 19:08

Very rarely - Christmas, out for dinner for a special occasion, maybe 3-4 times a year total. Haven’t drunk so far this year but going for a rare meal out next weekend so may have one or two then.

Feels pointless to me - my life is really stressful, I’m really sleep deprived and having one or two doesn’t make me feel good and having more makes me feel awful. I could quite happily never drink again. I also grew up surrounded by alcoholics so I dislike habitual drinking.

DH drinks a bit more often than me but not much. Every week we buy a Tesco finest meal deal with our shop and get either a bottle of wine or 4 pack of beers, so that we have stuff in in case anyone comes round to socialise - right now we have five unopened bottles of wine and 4x 4 beers. Might need to have a party to get rid 😂 DH will have a beer occasionally but clearly not often as we have such a stockpile.

SinkGirl · 07/03/2020 19:08

Oh, and I’m not being self righteous either - I started smoking again before Christmas so I’m no saint!
