To not pay a crafter for a bespoke made item

I’ve wanted a really nice bread bin for ages, fed up of my old rusty one leaving marks all over the kitchen worktop, saw a nice one on the internet, lovely design, but it wasn’t big enough, I needed a double/two loaf model.
Decided to splash out and get one made (wooden), spent ages sending pics/designs to local crafter, lots didn’t answer, or didn’t come back with a price after initially showing interest in taking on the project, or some couldn’t make it for nearly a year.
After a while I found a lovely new to crafting lady at an event, her work was amazing, and she quoted me £70 for a reclaimed solid oak bread bin, based on some pics I sent her, and included a rough sketch with measurements (internal& external), but I did say the size could altered slightly if she felt it would look more proportional, as long as it fitted two loaves (one on top of each other, with internal shelf), I even sent her a pic with the tape measure in front of the loaves I use for clarity...she sent me a sketch back, and I asked her to go ahead with the make.
Shes in the final stages, and today she’s sent me an update with pics.
Problem...it isn’t anything like the sketches either of us sent, she’s added the word BREAD in red to the front of it, which I never asked for, and wasn’t included in any of the pics or sketches.
It hasn’t got an internal shelf, the loaves look as if they are to fit side by side, so it’s going to take up far more valuable work surface space, and my kitchen isn’t big.
Im unsure if it’s even going to fit two loaves in...but it’s very hard to judge from a pic.
AND she has told me she’s made it out of pallet wood instead of the reclaimed oak, as she felt it looked more rustic...I did say initially I wanted rustic...but she gave me a samples of wood to chose from, and pallet wood is not the agreed oak.
EEEK.
Would I be really really unreasonable to say ‘I don’t want it, it’s not what we agreed’
I feel awful, as she new to crafting, and she’s lovely....but it, in my eyes anyway, it looks awful, I don’t feel I could use it elsewhere even.
This is my Christmas birthday and Mother’s Day present all in one, I feel like somebody like me should never even of attempted to have something handmade, I should of stuck to one for a fiver from B&M.
She’s on holiday til the weekend, so I don’t want to message her immediately, and spoil things for her

Still no pic Hmm

Catting · 03/03/2020 13:25

warmest, yes....we are obviously both artists, and our talents should be given a platform.

I hear what you say about the font, and it being in red....but I like to just disregard advice, and just do whatever takes my fancy. That is true art.

*I hear the police are most interested in solving all the bread bin crimes

Southmouth · 03/03/2020 13:36

I’m just coming on here to politely request a picture of the bread bin..

WTFrigg · 03/03/2020 13:43

I NEED to see this breadbin, it is no longer a matter of mere want!

Spam88 · 03/03/2020 13:44

If you don't want to post the pictures OP, you could just point us towards the Facebook group...Halo

Herpesfreesince03 · 03/03/2020 13:46

BabbleBee · 03/03/2020 13:46

Anyone else looking on Facebook for handmade bread bins?

Not me oh no

SnapAndFartAllDayLong · 03/03/2020 13:48

I've literally read it all now... bread bin thread is racist 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

TheReluctantCountess · 03/03/2020 13:55

I need to see the one she made!

wherethewildrosesgrow · 03/03/2020 13:55

I didn’t out myself by putting up the screen shots of the sketches of how the item was intended to look...she had already outed me in a private message to her friends...and I put the screen shots on under my husbands name, as she’d blocked me, she entered into no further conversations with me once I asked if she’d mixed up my order, she just posted a pic of the bread bin herself with the sob story about being asked to make the item, then saying I’d refused to pay, which I hadn’t, just questioned if she’d mixed up my order and pointed out the differences.
My work place have been very supportive, they have reported the calls to the police, I was only in the phone desk for an hour and received 6 calls, I’m required to state my name on answer, so I’ve been faced a bombardment of abuse, at which point managers decided step in and replaced me with a colleague, hoping they’d get fed up, but since, they’ve asked to be transferred to the manager, the manager has also been subject to abuse when he asked them not to call again.
He took the decision to report to the police, as the amount of calls he we are having has had a massive impact on the already over stretched public service.
I spoke briefly to the police officer when the call was made, and they’ve advised me not to enter into any conversation, or retaliate in any way, so no,unfortunately, I won’t post any of her bread bin, especially as they are watermarked. I really don’t feel the need to defend myself anyway, as I think it’s fair to say, she’s shown herself what type of person she is by publicly condoning her friends actions, who’ve admitted on Facebook to making calls to my workplace.
The police have taken down names and phone numbers of the messages and calls I’ve received, and just said we’ll be in touch.
Tomorrow I’m due back at work, but tomorrow I’m in as my usual housekeeper role.
All of the wood and tools she is using belong to her former craft partner, who she is denying access to the former shared workshop.
ALL THIS OVER A BREADBIN

I’d ask for this thread to be deleted aswell wherethewildrosesgrow

acatcalledjohn · 03/03/2020 13:58

She is batshit fucking crazy, as are her friends.

Catting · 03/03/2020 14:03

Her friends have been lied to, so if they get into shit for abusing someone who they have been told has been acting badly, then they won't be too thrilled.
But they shouldn't be bloody abusing people to start with, so it would serve them right!

Bluntness100 · 03/03/2020 14:04

Why should the thread be deleted if it’s the truth! She’s not mentioned the woman’s name and the woman has been all over her own social media,

What’s she going to do, call the Mumsnet police and complain there is a thread about her, because she recognises herself and how badly she behaved?

SnoozyLou · 03/03/2020 14:06

Be honest, OP. You're tempted to order the matching cookie jar and tea & coffee pots now, aren't you.

Flipping heck. And the 2020 Entrepreneur of the Year Award goes to...

SirVixofVixHall · 03/03/2020 14:10

She sounds completely bonkers. How old is she, 13?

Apolloanddaphne · 03/03/2020 14:14

My goodness she seems a bit batshit.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 03/03/2020 14:16

Really feel for you Op. The scenario has got completely out of control.

Sagradafamiliar · 03/03/2020 14:18

Uh-huh.

IntermittentParps · 03/03/2020 14:21

Muffin to see here Grin

CoraPirbright · 03/03/2020 14:24

Good grief! Utterly bonkers that, instead of replying to you “oh dear, well how can we rectify this problem”, she blocks you and starts bad outing you all over Fb!! Bat shit! Glad the police are now on board - do feel sorry for you and your bosses! Do let us know what the police say —when they have bollocked the mad cow and her horrid friends—

Weregoingonanadventure · 03/03/2020 14:25

For the people who dont believe it, this stuff does happen. I once sent a message to a soap maker because she was selling "pregnancy pamper" gift sets but had included some essential oils which are unsafe for use during pregnancy so I sent a private message to let her know, and she her labels weren't following the legal guidelines so people who were given the gift sets wouldn't actually know what each product contained without finding her facebook posts. It turned out she hadn't had any of her recipes tested and approved so the whole thing was illegal, but I was mainly concerned about the risk to pregnant women. She shared my profile on her page and shared photos of me with my kids, she shared my business page and I was getting abuse from all her friends on my pages, because she hadn't told them that she was selling unsafe products to pregnant women... just that I had "messaged a complaint about her products". People didn't even know the details and still went on the attack against me. It happens.

SnoozyLou · 03/03/2020 14:30

I bought a camera on ebay that was faulty. The seller obviously knew it was, but wouldn't reply to messages. Ebay intervened, forcing a refund if I returned the item. He rang my "work", telling my "employers" that that I'd been bidding on auctions in works time and how did they feel about that? Turns out they didn't give a shit as he actually had the number for my parents shop, and I didn't even work there.

Some people are bloody nuts. You wonder how they go on in day to day life.
