Friend has asked me to be a bridesmaid at her wedding this year.... First of all she asked me to go from a size 18 to 16 so she can find dresses to suit her other bridesmaids and then she's messaged asking if I mind her not inviting my son (he'll have just turned 2) so she can give his seat to someone else's +1

Sorry she's asked you to lose weight?

Catinthehatmad · 02/03/2020 14:21

Yeah cause the dresses she wanted only go up to a 16

AryaStarkWolf · 02/03/2020 14:21

Definitely unreasonable and cruel to ask you to lose weight.

About your son, had she told you he was invited first and are other people's children going or not?

Catinthehatmad · 02/03/2020 14:22

Yeah she's said all along he was invited and now whilst doing plans and things changed her mind

OP posts:
DesLynamsMoustache · 02/03/2020 14:23

She's a twat. You pick people as bridesmaids because you love them and want them part of your day, not because you want them in a specific dress. Asking someone to lose weight is horrendously rude.

Catinthehatmad · 02/03/2020 14:24

My thoughts exactly!

OP posts:
Ihatesocialmedia · 02/03/2020 14:24

Think you need to ditch this bridezilla! She's not a friend

Clangus00 · 02/03/2020 14:26

Eh no!

marblesgoing · 02/03/2020 14:27

Tell her she's being an ass and you will happily step out so she can find someone else.
Rude cow

Spied · 02/03/2020 14:31

A good friend wouldn't care what you wore, they'd just want you (and your ds) to be there on their special day.
Obviously the dresses and someone's partner come first.

hamalooya · 02/03/2020 14:31

Absolute CF. Tell her to f off that she is being a massive asshole! Very hurtful and unfair. Tell her that she can buy the dresses and have two seats back as you will not be attending with your son.

inwood · 02/03/2020 14:32

Fuck off. I think that should cover your response quite eloquently.

AryaStarkWolf · 02/03/2020 14:33

Yeah she's said all along he was invited and now whilst doing plans and things changed her mind

Well she's being unreasonable on both counts in that case and very hurtful too

Twinkletoes888 · 02/03/2020 14:33

I’d tell her not happening so she can have my seat as well.

SnoozyLou · 02/03/2020 14:36

Son not coming is one thing - some people don't want children at their wedding for whatever reason and I think that's fair enough.

If someone told me I had to lose weight to be their bridesmaid I would tell them to fuck off and never speak to them again. Seriously OP. This is not someone you need in your life.

TheFastandTheCurious · 02/03/2020 14:36

No and no, seriously

Arthritica · 02/03/2020 14:38

"Drop a dress size to be my bridesmaid."

As bloody if. Tell her to do one.

BumbleBeee69 · 02/03/2020 14:39

NO and NO.. so it's a FOOK off from me 🌺

BeatItBarry · 02/03/2020 14:48

I'd have preferred my best friend to have been there in a jeans and t shirt than not at all. I hate this whole 'everything has to be perfect, not a thread of fabric the wrong colour' shit with weddings.

No one cares what your bridesmaids wear.

YANBU OP I'd tell her to stuff it.

whiskeylullaby2 · 02/03/2020 15:01

you reply:

'no problem, you can have my seat too, enjoy your wedding'

then block and move on

starlight86 · 02/03/2020 15:12

Absolutely unreasonable and so rude to ask you to drop a size!!

Not unreasonable to not invite your son, i had a no kids rule at my wedding :)

AryaStarkWolf · 02/03/2020 15:15

Not unreasonable to not invite your son, i had a no kids rule at my wedding

This is why I asked the OP to clarify that and apparently she had originally invited him but then disinvited him because she wanted to invite someone else's +1 instead

Cacaca · 02/03/2020 15:16

If it’s a proper bridesmaid dress then a 16 is probably more like a 12 at least. Wedding and bridesmaid dresses are horribly sized.

OhCaptain · 02/03/2020 15:16

Wow that is so rude!

Even if she’d said “the dress goes up to a 16, would that suit you?” That wouldn’t be as bad as telling you to lose weight! How dare she?!

I’d be less mad about your son if she’s decided that it’s going to be child free.

h0llygolightly · 02/03/2020 15:16

I repeat what @whiskeylullaby2 said! she's not your friend. She isn't worth your time, tell her to sling it!
