DH and I stumbled across our beloved childhood TV show 'Knightmare' on YouTube. Fell down a rabbit hole for the last hour!

It got me thinking about being a contestant on it (I always wanted to!).

I know it's not really AIBU but would love to hear experiences from anyone who went on there as a child, or any kids show?

Yeah.
A young lad in my town decided to recreate the zip line in the house, it snapped and he was hung. His parents IIRC launched a campaign.
Back then they never used to use the don't try this at home message. I think that is why they do as well

No but some kids from our school went on Fun House, they came back with goody bags and rulers - I was so jealous!

westendgirl780 · 02/03/2020 10:06

Was in the audience for Fun House. Remember pat sharp and the twins (Melanie and Martika???) lolling about together between takes!

I was on Wacaday in the 80s aged around 9 or 10 I played a game called silly senses, I won ! Met Timmy Mallet, Michaela Strachan etc. I won a wac pac, a Communards LP, a "lots of legs" teddy a bowl of apples and a bunch of signed photos

AngelsSins · 02/03/2020 17:17

Yes I was on a show called 'Hangar 17' which was on children's bbc but very few people remember it

I was on that too!!

tobee · 02/03/2020 17:42

Ooh this thread has prompted me to google Hanger 17. It's quite complicated! Grin

Tinysarah1985 · 02/03/2020 20:27

One of my brothers auditioned for Knightmare when they were 11. They didn't get on it but were shunted over to Timebusters instead. He said the filming of that was all a fix and they filmed the race to the finish against the clock several different ways and decided at the end of the day whether they would be winners or not.

Enidcat5 · 02/03/2020 20:57

I was on Wacaday! I did chat and splat, had to do the quiz then name the band picture which was NKOTB. Won a load of signed stuff from Timmy Mallet plus one of those Russian dolls with the smaller ones inside. Had to chase up my prize because it didn't arrive for ages!.

@SinkGirl That is a thing of beauty! Well played your OH! Grin

TeetotalKoala · 02/03/2020 21:25

@SinkGirl That is magnificent!

Also, we share a first name. Only with your first name could you recognise it with 99% of it rubbed out. Hi 😀

SinkGirl · 02/03/2020 21:27

Well played indeed. Still trying to plot my revenge but I’m not sure I can top it.

Forgot to say I made him promise not to post on social media until the episode has ended - who knew that Challenge TV had a +1? Who’s watching that? (Well, all my friends did that day - not good).

That helmet is not fetching, is it? Sigh.

SinkGirl · 02/03/2020 21:28

Ooh do you spell it like me? There were lots of us in my year at school but everyone else was spelled differently and no one can ever spell my name right!

TeetotalKoala · 02/03/2020 21:31

The helmet looks like my ski helmet. Which I decided last night after looking at our photos from this year is NOT good look and I will be buying another one for next year.

I do indeed spell it like you. The correct way.

SinkGirl · 02/03/2020 21:34

My helmet had the camera on it because I was taller than my team mate preens

Only time I’ve ever been the tallest person in any team. Happy times.

I was most excited because we got to stay in a hotel with a pool, and got vouchers for the ITV canteen. And my episode had Falcon (I think?) from The Gladiators on it.

BlueEyedPersephone · 02/03/2020 21:35

@justshutthedoor
Jinx .. I was in hanger 17 too, also blue peter and run the risk. It was done by dance auditions at school and we got to stand in the blue peter garden. I'm glad YouTube wasn't about then!🤣

MrsJoshNavidi · 02/03/2020 21:36

It wasn't a quiz show but I was on Dechrau Canu, Dechrau Canmol in Wales in the 70s.

jmh740 · 02/03/2020 21:44

I was rarely off school ill when I was younger, one day I missed a visit from an Olympic swimmer and the next time it was the day everyone put their name down to go on cheggers plays pop

SnowWhitesRestingBitchFace · 02/03/2020 21:44

I grew up in Ireland and took part in a game show called 'Its a family affair' with my mum, dad and sister 😂 We didn't win but the consolation prizes were brilliant and Dara O Briain is really nice!

Babdoc · 02/03/2020 21:44

I was a contestant on Crackerjack way back in the 1960’s, when Michael Aspel and Peter Glaze hosted it. Mary Hopkin was on as guest star and sang “ Those were the Days”. Fortunately I didn’t win the game (trying to put ping pong balls into a tall glass jar using a flat trowel), so I didn’t have to do the quiz. My classmate won it and got a tapestry set. I just got a Crackerjack pencil!

gingerninja1808 · 02/03/2020 22:37

Not me, but a few students in my year went on Blockbusters in the late 80s.... One went on as a solo contestant and didn't get very far, but two others went on as a pair, and won five Gold Runs!!

TeeniefaeTroon · 02/03/2020 23:35

I was on Child's Play when I was about 8, they came to our school to film. We had to describe various things and the game show panel had to guess what we were talking about. It was hosted by Michael Aspel but we never got to meet him.
