DH and I stumbled across our beloved childhood TV show 'Knightmare' on YouTube. Fell down a rabbit hole for the last hour!

It got me thinking about being a contestant on it (I always wanted to!).

I know it's not really AIBU but would love to hear experiences from anyone who went on there as a child, or any kids show?

I have a freind who won an episode of Man O Man.

He's suitably embarrassed. 😂

Onceuponatimethen · 01/03/2020 22:28

I’m so impressed someone presented Why don’t you!! I so wanted to do that

KeepYourGinUpHigh · 01/03/2020 22:34

I was on Blue Peter in the 90s. I did a piece to camera whilst crouching in a river with John Leslie! I got a special green environmental BP badge which used to get me into places for free. I still have it but it’s only good for bragging rights these days Smile

Antihop · 01/03/2020 22:35

@lovemenomore please tell us more about being on why don't you. I LOVED that programme.

I was on a phone in on Going Live.

whattodo2019 · 01/03/2020 22:40

I was regularly on The Pink Windmill with Rod and Emu.
I also did Fruit Pastels, Birds eye fish fingers abs Heinz baked beans adverts....

Rinoachicken · 01/03/2020 22:41

My cousin was ‘Harry’ in Harry’s Mad (boy with a parrot). I remember going round to meet the parrot at his house (they had to ‘bond’!)

MovinOnUp · 01/03/2020 22:43

My class were on a show called 'Top Banana' in 1991
Me and two others didn't go because it clashed with our home team being in the Scottish cup final (We didn't win the cup, Wish I'd went on the telly)

Not exactly a contestant, but when I was young, maybe about 8 or 9. I entered a phone in comp on the Disney Channel and got through straight away. I spoke to someone on the phone who told me what I had to do, which was name 10 body parts with 3 letters. I instantly thought, how am I gonna do that!
The person on the phone was giving me a few, so I did manage to get 10. I then had to speak live on air and a boy band (can't remember who) had to name the same 10 body parts that I had said, and they did.
I didn't have a clue what I'd won, until my dad went to pick the parcel up from the post office. It was this green lightning lamp thing, sort of like a lava lamp, but electric sparks would go through it. Grin

I always wanted to be on get your own back, finders keepers and fun house. However I had to settle for the less well known CITV programme Crazy Cottage, where I got gunged, stuck on a giant inflatable and lost by 15 points. So embarrassing.! I'm just glad nobody remembers it.

FlamingoAndJohn · 01/03/2020 23:03

I was on a phone in on Going Live.

You are the person who swore at 5 Star and I claim my £5.

If anyone designed a Fun House for nostalgic millennials where employees had to wear Par Sharp wigs they'd make an absolute killing. With Finders Keepers and Get Your Own Back themed special events. No kids allowed obvs.

Fairypiggy · 01/03/2020 23:05

I remember crazy cottage because they came to my school to find kids to be on it, but I don’t think anyone ended being in the show the end.
Someone in my school was on Jim’ll fix it, she go to tap dance with some famous dancers.

Rachie1973 · 01/03/2020 23:11

Nope. Done none, wanted to be on funhouse though. Saw Pat Sharp at an 80s festival last year though, much hotter without the mullet.

Dontlickthetrolley · 01/03/2020 23:15

A show called The Boot Street Gang was filmed at our school for the BBC, the year below us were all extras, we were very upset about that! It featured a very new and upcoming superstar Idris Elba and my friend has a photo with him from 1993!

I’m sure I read somewhere they’ve done, or are planning to do a Funhouse for adults with Pat Sharp involved

I was on going live too, on the phone though.
They were running a competition, can't even recall what the prizes were but I think I'd requested should I win it went to the local children's hospital where my little cousin was being treated for a brain tumour.

They called me one Saturday morning. I hadn't won but they decided I was runner up and although there shouldn't have been a prize they did donate loads of books and toys to the ward. I had a certificate but it vanished over the years.

I'd totally forgotten about that until now!

Not a kids show but a child based game show. "Small Talk!" with Ronnie Corbett.

Would have been early 90's when a production crew came to my school looking for children to film. No idea why I was picked, only 3 were selected, I was 4 years old. Then we were filmed for the day in front of a plain background answering the questions that would eventually form the responses to the contestants.

Unfortunately I wasn't actually chosen to be broadcast Grin for apparently a couple of reasons. I had (and still have) a very grumpy looking 'i'm thinking' face. I used to be quite cute, so the instant scowling whenever asked a question didn't do me any favours.
Also, according to my Mum, she said I got most of the questions right so they had less footage of 'funny wrong answers' which made up a large component of the show. I got a Small Talk Jumper for participating, still have it!

Both the other selected children from my school did make it onto the TV! They were mocked relentlessly so dodged a bullet!

DameOfGroans · 01/03/2020 23:55

My brother took our dog on Star Pets.

No one ever remembers that show, though.

ThunderPython · 02/03/2020 00:04

There was a competition to draw a picture of Wilson the Butler (Broom Cupboard, think it was Andy Crane) and my classmate won it.

TeetotalKoala · 02/03/2020 00:16

My cousin was a Why Don't You presenter.

I was the 'Barmy Early Riser' back when Nickelodeon filmed from Trocedero as mentioned upthread. Every morning at 7am when Nickelodeon went on the air, they'd have the first caller and first faxer of the day. After much trying, one morning, I was the first caller. They never did send me my 'Barmy Early Riser' certificate though. I only lived 20 minutes from Trocedero. I'd have gone to get it.

I was the Pilgrim of The Day on Deal or No Deal when I was 30 though. Had the episode taped on our Sky box until we got Sky Q.

TeetotalKoala · 02/03/2020 00:23

@SinkGirl

  1. I'm very jealous that you got to go on Finders Keepers.
  1. My DH cracked up when I read him your post, said that's win one for your DH... And where's the picture of the mug?
SinkGirl · 02/03/2020 08:36

Here you go Koala - I forgot the added detail that it was actually a birthday present for me (he did get me other stuff actually for me 😂). He even used my most hated font. He’s a proper wind up merchant.

Obviously anyone who knows me - hello!

BiBiBirdie · 02/03/2020 09:41

The problem with Fun House is it was taken off air due to an accident.

Marilynmansonsothereye · 02/03/2020 09:50

Is that true Bibi ? That's a shame. I used to wish and wish I ws on any of these shows especially funhouse.

MELANIE,and MARTINA!!!
:)

I remember small talk. Loved that show.
