To ask if you were a contestant on a kids TV show as a child?

DH and I stumbled across our beloved childhood TV show 'Knightmare' on YouTube. Fell down a rabbit hole for the last hour!

It got me thinking about being a contestant on it (I always wanted to!).

I know it's not really AIBU but would love to hear experiences from anyone who went on there as a child, or any kids show?

I went to soft play with a former Fun House contestant a couple of times. Didn't even think of asking about the prizes but had the best time knowing I was scaling foam blocks with such a pro!

Love that the Crystal Maze reboot has added a Knightmare-esque challenge. They clearly know their audience!

It was quite a horrible experience in that they didn't tell me what was expected and it was infront of a live studio audience and I ended up being very humiliated. School made a big deal of it and showed the episode in assembly. I never really lived it down

LaurieMarlow · 01/03/2020 20:12

Funhouse was the dream Grin

Knightmare wasn’t really my thing. I wouldn’t have wanted to be the one with the blindfold. Not at all

DH was in 'roundaround' with Mike Reid.
He said it was great fun as a child and Mike was like a big kid himself.

I was on a quiz show called Knock Your Block Off, some time back in the 1980s. Some sort of weird Saturday morning show that I think only ran for that one year I was on it. We were in teams of two, and we had to answer questions and then knock bricks out of a wall to win prIzes. We came home with the most astounding heap of electronic gear - my dad had to rewire my bedroom to fit it all in. It was bloody marvellous and it still makes me happy just thinking about it.

Onceuponatimethen · 01/03/2020 20:13

Oh no just - how awful Flowers

LaurieMarlow · 01/03/2020 20:14

Amyspickledlime · 01/03/2020 20:16

My Brownie unit was in the audience for On Safari with Christopher Biggins. It was the one and only time my family holidayed abroad so I missed it 😭

I remember Hangar 17, wasn't Gaz Top on it?
I wanted to go on Finders Keepers but my Mum said no.

MagicKingdomDizzy · 01/03/2020 20:18

ShinyMe

Sounds fun, it's great that you still have the recording!

I auditioned for noels house party "wait til I get you home"

Elzbells · 01/03/2020 20:21

I was on Mallets Mallet. Me and my friend also sang our song in the shower.

I was about 7 years old and I remember it being great fun.

Butchyrestingface · 01/03/2020 20:21

Yes, aged 14, I was plucked from the studio audience of a Darren Day fronted TV show to model a delectable t-shirt.

If short-arse, face-like-a-welly-boot me was the most modelesque kid they could find that day, the others must have been a desperate lot.

anappleadaykeeps · 01/03/2020 20:22

I was on the Sooty and Sweep show, and as I was in the front row, I was one of the children who got to dance under the bubbles for the closing credits.

Butchyrestingface · 01/03/2020 20:23

Ooooh, read the question wrong. Sad I wasn’t the CONTESTANT, I was the nubile teenage model of t-shirts.

The boy I fancied was the contestant.

anappleadaykeeps · 01/03/2020 20:23

My friend was on Blue Peter as she came second in a Cat competition.

Emmelina · 01/03/2020 20:23

Someone in my school went on Fun House with his brother. Wore his jumper to school afterwards (before uniform was mandatory). Everyone was so jealous!

LaurieMarlow · 01/03/2020 20:23

So JEALOUS Grin

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 01/03/2020 20:23

I was in an advert for a CITV promo! I had a line and everything Grin I’ve still got a copy they sent me on VHS. It’s not on YouTube thank god (yes, I did check lol).

I always wanted to go on Funhouse but only to go into the actual Funhouse, I didn’t want to do any of the gunge games.

justshutthedoor · 01/03/2020 20:24

@MagicKingdomDizzy lol I've got over it now but ye not great as a kid!

LaurieMarlow · 01/03/2020 20:25

Oh my god I’ve just remembered Magic Kingdom Dizzy,

What a game. What a great username. Grin

Therunecaster · 01/03/2020 20:26

Not a TV show but I played fthe tuba on stage with Keith Harris and Orville. Never lived it down.

SinkGirl · 01/03/2020 20:28

Yes, I was a contestant on Finders Keepers. Was something I became quite embarrassed about when I was older. Fortunately my mum taped over it by mistake.

Then a few years ago they started repeating it on Challenge TV, DH watched every bloody weekend to find mine - it was on eventually, and he took a screengrab and made himself a mug so now I have to look at it every day. Bastard.

I did win a Sega Megadrive II though.
