Hotel party

DH and I have finally managed to get a night away for our tenth anniversary and we are staying at a local hotel in the honeymoon suite. It’s all very fancy, had a lovely afternoon here and went out for dinner and a movie. Came back to the hotel and there is a party on directly under our room in their function suite. Normally this wouldn’t be too bad I suppose but having 3 kids under 7 and not remembering the last time I’ve had a decent night sleep I’m raging that the bed is literally vibrating with the music. I was so looking forward to a good nights sleep. I’ve just called reception and apparently the party will be finishing in the next half hour, around 1am. Am I being too fussy or do I complain in the morning about the ridiculous amount we paid for this room hoping for one decent nights sleep?!

I think that you should have been warned for a loud party going on until 1am below you. And given option to move rooms or change booking.

Honeyned · 01/03/2020 00:48

NUB id be gutted Sad maybe have some champange and have your own disco party in your room Confused

LittleCabbage · 01/03/2020 00:51

I would definitely ask for a partial refund.

Notthefirsttime · 01/03/2020 00:51

Thank you @Mummymummums I wasn’t sure if I was being reasonable in my sleep deprived state. We’re not going to get an opportunity like this again for a long time so feeling a bit gutted.

@Honeyned yes doing exactly that! We need to leave earlier than we would like in the morning due to childcare which takes the shine off it a bit! You’re right though probably best to make the most of it

@LittleCabbage I’m glad I posted now as I was feeling I should maybe just accept it. It’s a bit of a joke though considering DH paid £350 for the night. I would never have agreed to it if he’d asked me but I think he wanted to splash out for the special occasion

YANBU to complain and (politely) request a partial refund.

WhiteBadger · 01/03/2020 01:05

Exactly same thing happened to me several years ago. A night away from kids ruined by loud music.

The Reception Staff couldn't have been more helps. Full refund and a complimentary room in any of their chain of hotels!

I was so grateful, I think I cried!!

To have a child free signed spoiled, is a nightmare.

Have you already phoned reception to complain?

WhiteBadger · 01/03/2020 01:06

Oh yes of course you have! That's why you know when it will finish.

Well just go Reception tomorrow and explain your disappointment. I bet they are lovely to you. :)

Honeyned · 01/03/2020 01:07

Have a good night!

Antihop · 01/03/2020 01:07

I'd be furious and definitely complaining.

mimimonster123 · 01/03/2020 01:10

Omg id be bloody feewwwwwmin

Notthefirsttime · 01/03/2020 01:14

Thank you lovely people. That’s the music stopped now so fingers crossed for a solid sleep! I’ll wind my neck in now and enjoy the rest of the night. Hope you all do too Wine

As long as you have complained to reception at the point of pain (when you cant sleep) and they fobbed you off...then you can ask for a full refund in the morning. If you hadnt complained then it would be a bit 50\50. But if they were given the opportunity to fix the problem and didnt, then they are not providing the service that you have paid for - a relaxing nights sleep - and so you can insist on a refund.

Thinkingabout1t · 01/03/2020 02:01

Why were they allowing that sort of noise late at night anyway? Definitely get a refund. At that price, it should be a full refund -- you were paying for luxury, not for a cheap room in a noisy doss-house. Name and shame if they refuse!

And happy anniversary Flowers

hadenough · 01/03/2020 02:07

Definitely complain. The least I'd expect is a partial refund, but I don't think you'd be unreasonable asking for a complimentary night in the future (even if not in the Honeymoon Suite).

I know the feeling of really looking forward to a night of total rest and relaxation, and then to be disappointed. I hope you managed to enjoy the weekend as much as you could anyway though.

Purpleartichoke · 01/03/2020 02:48

I would want my money back. They shouldn’t be putting anyone in that room if there is a loud party right below.

Fr0g · 01/03/2020 02:58

complain in the morning? - I'd be giving the duty manager hell NOW

AlwaysCheddar · 01/03/2020 06:23

I’d be furious!!

Movinghouseatlast · 01/03/2020 06:35

Yes, you should complain. Receptiom should have offered to move you into a room where you could sleep.

Noisy hotels are a real bug bear of mine, as I stay in them.for work a lot. They are all too often aware of the noise but seem to not care to do anything to rectify it.

ColdCottage · 01/03/2020 06:54

This is why hotels usually ask events to book bedrooms and allocate them the side of the hotel impacted by the noise of a party as part of their booking.

I would explain what happened and ask for a complementary replacement night. This is not unreasonable and they can offer you one on a quieter weekend if they are busy.

Veterinari · 01/03/2020 06:57

Definitely complain. Loud noise til 1am is utterly unreasonable Unless you were warned in advance or offered an alternative suite.
£350 for a room you cannot sleep in is bonkers
I'd be complaining very firmly (though politely) in the morning

AriadnesFilament · 01/03/2020 07:04

£350 for one night away in the honeymoon suite and you can’t sleep because the bed is vibrating due a party in the function room which is directly below? Damn right I’d be complaining and expecting at least a partial refund.

That’s the kind of thing where I’d expect advance notice before I arrive and an offer to move rooms or a reduced rate. Key thing being: advance notice and a choice of options.

lunar1 · 01/03/2020 07:28

I'd expect the full money back for that, a travel lodge would refund and move you for this amount of noise!

Streamingbannersofdawn · 01/03/2020 07:40

Complain. That's unacceptable and tell them so. Ask them what they are going to do about it.

If you suggest a partial refund that's what you'll get....I'd expect a full refund and quite frankly a free night in order to restore my faith in them.

Hopefully they will be very helpful in order to prevent you from annihilating them on trip advisor and Google reviews. (Not saying you should...just look cross enough).
