Hotel party

DH and I have finally managed to get a night away for our tenth anniversary and we are staying at a local hotel in the honeymoon suite. It’s all very fancy, had a lovely afternoon here and went out for dinner and a movie. Came back to the hotel and there is a party on directly under our room in their function suite. Normally this wouldn’t be too bad I suppose but having 3 kids under 7 and not remembering the last time I’ve had a decent night sleep I’m raging that the bed is literally vibrating with the music. I was so looking forward to a good nights sleep. I’ve just called reception and apparently the party will be finishing in the next half hour, around 1am. Am I being too fussy or do I complain in the morning about the ridiculous amount we paid for this room hoping for one decent nights sleep?!

Part of me thinks I should just accept it and move on. I tend to be a pushover in these situations and I’m trying to change that, but my instinct is to people please!

Well, more fool you then. You're not pleasing anyone but these greedy bastards.

HeartyGreenSalad · 03/03/2020 20:11

Pursue it. You had a rubbish night and paid £350 for the privilege. They are just trying to keep your money. By the time you rebook these peoplewill have moved on. Don't think of it as being personal, they won't remember you from Adam
Get your money back

Tennistime · 03/03/2020 20:11

I had a disturbed night in a posh and pricey hotel once, I wasn’t charged a penny, didn’t need to fight my corner at all.

OP, you paid £350 for a bedroom to sleep in, you didn’t get what you paid for, the hotel are behaving appallingly. I’d want every penny back.

Notthefirsttime · 03/03/2020 20:13

Apart from being a pushover I’m also easily persuaded Grin I’ll email back tonight and politely demand a full refund

£100 back still makes it a £250 night which is still flipping expensive and you'd expect better for that. I know what it's like to have to get childcare and a never never promise which you may not be able to take up isn't a suitable alternative for spending £250 on a night which was ruined.

datasgingercatspot · 03/03/2020 20:22

I couldn't get to sleep in a Premier Inn one night in a heat wave as there was only one fan. Took screenshots of the temp inside the room (34 degrees). Sent them and one email. Instant refund. These twats are having you on.

This is mostly copied from @Veterinari’s post:

“Thanks for getting back to me so promptly. Unfortunately as we discussed on Sunday, it’s not a simple matter of exchanging for another stay as this was our first night away in 8 years and we will not get another opportunity in the near future. This was one of the reasons we were happy to pay £350. I’m afraid at this time I feel we would probably have had a better nights sleep at a budget hotel.

Given the status of the ... as a luxury boutique hotel, I would have expected better management of the situation at the time. I anticipate a full refund in lieu of a quiet nights sleep.”

Hopefully that’s the right tone!

@datasgingercatspot when I raised the complaint initially that was the kind of response I was expecting. So disappointed. It may well be the Premier Inn for us if we do ever get away again!

Maybe take it to the company's Twitter? I don't use it myself but whenever I've read about a problem posted on Twitter it's usually rectified pretty swiftly!

Notthefirsttime · 03/03/2020 20:45

@crapette that sounds awful but I’m glad you had a lovely time anyway.

I guess I feel a bit better that the manager apologised. Still doesn’t get me my sleep though

OP posts:

@supercee I’ve been hesitant to take it to social media because I want to give them a chance to rectify it. Once it’s on twitter etc it’s very hard to undo and I don’t want to tarnish their reputation unfairly

hope you get the result you want OP - keep on at them

I had a stay in a fancy hotel in London interrupted by a nasty fight next door at 2am - on check out I simply mentioned I had been disturbed - manager emailed and offered a refund or upgrade next time - I was planning to book again for my DD's birthday so took the upgrade

Booked a standard room (via Booking.com at £150) and was upgraded to a £700 balcony suite with river view - absolutely amazing - plus champers and a cake for DD!

They need to up their game!

Notthefirsttime · 03/03/2020 20:52

Wow @ghostyslovesheets that sounds like my kind of place! Currently fantasising about a whole night of uninterrupted sleep while breastfeeding a teething one year old Envy

BlueChangling · 03/03/2020 20:55

I would push for the full refund as well

UsainDolt · 03/03/2020 21:05

OP, if you don't get a refund, would you consider asking for a family room/suite and making a holiday weekend/mid week break en famille?

EarringsandLipstick · 03/03/2020 21:09

Great email OP. I hope you get a good response.

datasgingercatspot · 03/03/2020 21:11

Oh, yes, another time, a mate and I were in an Ibis hotel. A stag party was going on in one of the rooms that got out of control, they were smoking weed and drunk and super loud and when told to shut it by security they got aggro. The police had to be called and the entire corridor was woken up. Full refunds and free breakfasts for all of us, on offer. Their response is shit.

Notthefirsttime · 03/03/2020 21:24

@UsainDolt I did think about this but not sure if the hotel would agree to it as this would mean another room to cater for the 3 kids

Notthefirsttime · 03/03/2020 21:25

Thanks @EarringsandLipstick will send it tonight then

give them bad - but honest - reviews on tripadvisor, google, boolomg.com or similar if yoy used them.
Whenever I've worked in hospitality (one hote,. several orgs doing room hire) I've been amazed at how seriously they take poor online reviews.

BackAwayFatty · 03/03/2020 21:37

You could take your complaint to www.retailadr.org.uk if they don't take your complaint seriously!

Notthefirsttime · 03/03/2020 21:59

@Fr0g I was putting off leaving a review until the situation was resolved but maybe I just need to leave the review and that in itself may help resolve things

OP posts:
Notthefirsttime · 03/03/2020 22:00

@BackAwayFatty I haven’t heard of them before. Just checked their website and it looks like the company needs to be a member and this hotel chain is not on their members list
