Breakfast guests

DH has just told me, at 10 to 8 at night, that we are having some old friends of his over tomorrow for breakfast! At 8am! This from the man who NEVER gets up to do our DS breakfast feed at 6.30/7am. But he can get up for people he hasnt seen for 8 years, that I have never met! I am full of rage. But perhaps IABU as I'm knackered and hormonal!

*Throw plates & pans in the dishwasher.

Not everyone has a dishwasher you know.*

Or the list of food items that went before it.... we don’t even have bread in this house. Never mind eggs or mushrooms! And the sausages that are in are for dinner one day. Breakfast guests with no notice could have crumpets with marmite or aldi chocolate hoops.

hopefulhalf · 01/03/2020 07:16

I would be going for a looooong run between 7:30- 9am back in time for the delicious breakfast someone had prepared.

Sturmundcalm · 01/03/2020 07:17

I'm just surprised so many people profess to not have any food in their houses over the weekend to actually feed 2 more people than usual.

we do our "weekly" shop (our most organised one anyway, we pick up stuff as we need it) on a Sunday so that my DH gets a free Sunday Times from Waitrose... so before 9 on a Sunday we are perfectly capable of having run out of fruit, bread, eggs and we don't normally have bacon/sausages in. less likely to have run out of milk cause we buy that elsewhere so I guess we could offer frosted shreddies and bran flakes to anyone who would like them Grin

Frownette · 01/03/2020 07:21

I've got fruit, eggs, and fresh bread from local bakery in but that's it.

I'm insanely curious to see how breakfast goes!

Frownette · 01/03/2020 07:23

Oh and a twix

We go shopping when we've eaten all the food in the house. Today is that day this week. Any guest arriving this morning would have been very disappointed to share the last 5 slides of bread, half a carton of orange juice, a pot of Greek yogurt and 2 bananas, both of which are for toddler DS. DS does not like anyone touching his bananas.

Dashel · 01/03/2020 07:27

In the OPs situation I would have been fuming there is no way I would have helped him either with the cooking or tidying up before or afterwards.

I don’t mind last minute visitors at all, but not at 8 am on a Sunday and not if he wouldn’t do the same for you, especially with your own kids.

After this he has no excuses for sorting out breakfasts for his family or mornings!

DH and I have both had last minute visitors staying for dinner and overnight but we pull together depending on who is at home, can get out of work, is passing a shop etc but it’s a team effort always. If he invited friends over at 8am he would be cooking though as I hate mornings and he would have checked with me first. I probably would have helped him tidy up a bit the night before and see what we had in the house and probably get him to wake me up with pancakes and I would come down when I’m ready.

Deathraystare · 01/03/2020 07:31

haha @bitterandonlyslightlytwisted pillock indeed! or pollock. both apply to this ridiculous situation.

Ummm no. Pollack are at least useful. You can eat them!

Dontstepinthecowpat · 01/03/2020 07:35

Send them here. I’ve been up since 5 am with a wild toddler. The house is tidy and there is bacon in the fridge. As long as they are ok with a squirt of breast milk in their coffee as I’m out of semi skimmed.

YoTheGinPussyOfStMawesOnThigh · 01/03/2020 07:37

A Twix for breakfast, riches Frownette indeed.

I could offer tea, coffee or instant hot chocolate. Effervescent vitamin C tablets in water to make orange juice. I have half a loaf of rather old bread and 4 eggs. Also some instant porridge but not much milk so would be half and half with water. I suppose I could grate a bar of Thornton’s chocolate over the porridge to make it special.

YoTheGinPussyOfStMawesOnThigh · 01/03/2020 07:40

I need to hoover the house too. My cats indulged in rough play all over the house last night and there are clouds of fur everywhere.

Icecreamdiva · 01/03/2020 07:44

We have eggs , sausages, beans, tomatoes and bread as well as juice, various cereals and milk so we’d be ok. But seriously, the thought of having strangers in my house at breakfast time is horrendous. I don’t much like seeing my family before 10am let alone anyone else.

Mummyoflittledragon · 01/03/2020 07:44

What’s the score op? Has he got up and out for breakfast? Good on for you for telling him no!

Rezie · 01/03/2020 07:44

I'm just surprised so many people profess to not have any food in their houses over the weekend to actually feed 2 more people than usual.

If I eat breakfast ita yoghurt or an apple. My bf eats yoghurt or weetabix. I mean, we do usually have extras but in general if someone was invited for breakfast I'd offer something other than weetabix.

While 8am meeting is weird, but I'd assume there is a reason for it. Friends were driving through? Other option was to not meet up at all and husband wanted to see them? I'd totally do this if it meant that I'd see my friend (there are no Sunday 8am breakfast places close by). Obviously op's husband should prepare everything and handle the set up. And talk to him about participating with the children in the mornings on the weekends.

Esspee · 01/03/2020 07:47

Came on here to find out what happened, forgetting about the time difference🙄
Still, it gives me the opportunity to plead with you not to give in OP!

Place marking? Never! 🤥

sittingonacornflake · 01/03/2020 07:50

I'm so invested in this thread. OP pleeeeeease come back and update us!

Frownette · 01/03/2020 07:51

Pussy I gave up on my stomach yesterday and decided it was going to have some normal food Grin - it's coping ok. I'M THE BOSS.

I like those effervescent vit C tablets. Oh so it's ginge and tortie, that confused me the other day.

10 mins to go OP...

ThanosSavedMe · 01/03/2020 07:52

If he’s making breakfast, make sure he cleans up too!

Quicklittlenamechange · 01/03/2020 07:55

Another one to add to the list of why being single is great - not having to cater for random people at 8am.

Ive been married for years, I dont cater for random people at 8am either.

dudsville · 01/03/2020 07:56

Well i could easily host a breakfast. Nice bread in the freezer, the too few eggs could be made into a mexican egg and tomatoes dish. Potatoes could be fried, mushrooms sauteed. We can make porridge. Lots of home made jams. Plenty of tea and coffee. However, i would not do any of this without good reason!

KidCaneGoat · 01/03/2020 08:04

Have they arrived yet?

Quicklittlenamechange · 01/03/2020 08:05

Oh God
The thread has turned into a breakfast competition
I can go and stick my hand under a hen and offer freshly laid eggs but thats not the point .
The point is the DH is a CF, inviting random people for breakfast at 8am, with the expectation that the OP will sort it.

AreWeAnywhereNear · 01/03/2020 08:06

Another vote for 'what a pillock!'

Yep most people could knock up a decent breakfast at 8am for guests but why on Earth would you, I'm lucky to be out of my pjs by 11 Wink

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 01/03/2020 08:16

Look at all the perfect breakfast hosts Grin

If only they had unexpected friends turning up more often to appreciate their breakfast skills!

AvocadoAdvocate · 01/03/2020 08:19

Well if we had surprise guests this morning I could offer them: muesli, an avocado, bananas, some blue cheese, frozen garlic bread, honey and we have enough bread for 3 slices I reckon. Actually I now quite like the idea of a Ready, Steady Cook breakfast!
