To have a night away by myself?

sintysalt · 28/02/2020 22:00

I'm nearly 36 years old and I've never stayed overnight anywhere on my own.
Next Saturday I'm going to Manchester for a day of shopping.
I'm from Newcastle so will take a couple of hours to get there.
I'm getting the train there and back but I'm tempted to book into a hotel and come back the next day.
Would that make me a looser?
My plan is get there for 1pm and shop till about 6 pm then go back to hotel and order room service and have a lovely bath etc
Just enjoy a night away really.
Or shall I save the £80-£100 and come home?

I'd do it tomorrow if I could! Would be so relaxing

Largeyellowdaffodil · 28/02/2020 22:02

Check that the hotel has a bath

forevercurious · 28/02/2020 22:02

Sounds like a lovely weekend!

redwinefine · 28/02/2020 22:03

That sounds amazing! Definitely not a loser. Very jealous here! I've stayed by myself a couple times in nice hotels and it's so relaxing (esp if you turn your phone off!) Enjoy

Sparklesocks · 28/02/2020 22:04

Absolutely go for it. And treat yourself!

sintysalt · 28/02/2020 22:05

I think I'm going too.
I hope if I don't book hotel till I'm down there I might get a cheaper deal.

It's lovely. I went to a friend's wedding on the other side of the country and stayed for 2 nights in a Premier Inn by myself. Wouldn't want to do it all the time but the ability to do what I wanted when I wanted was a great novelty.

Babyg1995 · 28/02/2020 22:08

That sounds amazing think I'll do the same soon .

WhereDidMyEyebrowsGo · 28/02/2020 22:10

Go for it! Sounds fabulous!

kevintheorangecarrot · 28/02/2020 22:12

I'd love to do that. I love my family but I just want a day/night away by myself. Enjoy!

sintysalt · 28/02/2020 22:15

It's crazy because over the last couple of years when I've went away for weekends with friends.
I hate not being able to do what I want etc and used to crave having a room to myself.
Hopefully il enjoy myself (I love shopping and eating so what can go wrong ) plus room service

RedMiniCooper · 28/02/2020 22:19

Oh definitely do it - enjoy!!

Juancornetto · 28/02/2020 22:21

I did it last week. Just to a town nearby but it was the first time since DD was born 3 years ago that I'd had a day without the kids. It was amazing, I shopped without being interrupted, had a daytime nap and a daytime bath, read a book and had a thoroughly lovely time. Go for it

FortheloveofJames · 28/02/2020 22:22

Treat yourself and absolutely go for it!

I’m planning to do just this as soon as I can leave my DD overnight (toddler aswell). Shopping, bath, room service, munchies, crap tv- IDEAL

Friendsofmine · 28/02/2020 22:23

You'll love it!

justasking111 · 28/02/2020 22:24

I used to dream about this when the DCs were small, too poor at the time. Enjoy OP

orangejuicer · 28/02/2020 22:25

I've done it loads of times, do it Grin

isseywith4vampirecats · 28/02/2020 22:28

last time I was single I got a tax rebate and treated my self to a 3 day trip to Edinburgh, stayed in a travel lodge and had a wale of a time do it and enjoy yourself lots of women stay in hotels on their own for business trips no one will bat an eyelid

ValedictoryMessage · 28/02/2020 22:30

I’d want to book in advance so I could check on bath and room service menu...and drop a backpack off. Also lots of city centre hotels get booked up at weekends especially if there’s a natch on.

SleepingStandingUp · 28/02/2020 22:32

I won a night away in a hotel. DS is 4 so DH had to stay home with him. I decided to not invite a friend to join me. So I went straight to the hotel, into the pool and spa, had a shower and a chill then down to the lovely hotel restaurant for a beautiful 3 course meal then home the next day. Also was only about 30 mins by train. But it was great. In your case I'd def do it.

hahaboink · 28/02/2020 22:33

I’m doing this right now! Got a Deliveroo to my room. Did a face mask and a hair mask. Drinking cocktails in a can. Watching love is blind. It’s awesome.

lotusbell · 28/02/2020 22:35

Yes, do it. A couple of years ago, I was asked to go to a work thing at the other end if the country, with an overnight stay. I went with a colleague so not quite on my own but we went down on the train, ate dinner in the hotel restaurant with a bottle of wine, nothing fancy. It was so nice going back to my room, running a deep bath with the Lush goodies I'd bought on the way down, then getting into a huge bed on my own to watch tv. Loved it hahaha

Ticklemelmo · 28/02/2020 22:36

Absolutely go for it, ive lost count of the amount of times I've done it (work/events reason) and have even been abroad on a city break alone.
Getting room service feels so relaxing too. Get yourself some pamper goodies whilst your out and treat yourself.

sintysalt · 28/02/2020 22:38

Oh you are all making me so excited ha ha
Out of a Hilton or a malmaison hotel, which do you think is nicer?
