I have a echo dot 3 and a echo show, what have you found particularly useful about yours?

I don't have one but I do enjoy asking it to set multiple alarms at inconvenient times when I'm at a house where there is one. I also have lots of fun getting it to turn the lights off in the bathroom while people are weeing.
I'm a bad friend tho...

Boom45 · 28/02/2020 19:19

Oo, and getting it to say 100 in Welsh.

MooominMamma · 28/02/2020 19:23

My husband enjoys adding inappropriate things to the shopping list, I just like that I can listen to whatever music / podcast I like.

formerbabe · 28/02/2020 19:23

Alarms and timers...so handy

MooominMamma · 28/02/2020 19:24

Also, getting it to ask the dc to do something. It amuses them greatly.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 28/02/2020 19:24

Music, alarms and scaring the kids 😆

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 28/02/2020 19:25

I like getting it to add things to my shopping list, turning the lights on and off, announcing dinners ready without me bellowing up the stairs and I very much enjoy the cake rap.

applesauce1 · 28/02/2020 19:27

We have them all over the house. We use her for:
-setting timers for cooking
-adding used up items to the shopping list (transformed my marriage! My husband no longer asks me, “What do we need?” Like I keep an inventory of every fucking thing in the house in my head at all times)
-question if the day
-news updates
-linked with calendar
-weather
-music
-audiobooks/podcasts
-reminders
-trivia for me (I like question of the day, trivial pursuit and capital cities quiz)
-animal noises for my boy
-white noise for my baby’s room
-calculating anything (I used her last night to help me reduce the ingredients down in a recipe for dumplings)
-making calls or sending texts
-drop in feature to avoid shouting up the stairs

Would love to hear what other people are using her for. I think she’s marvellous. I barely have to pick up my phone all day.

RefuseTheLies · 28/02/2020 19:28

My 4 year old mainly asks her to fart.

Corneliusmurphy · 28/02/2020 19:28

The radio mainly, I had a DAB radio but the signal was rubbish - we must have a lead roof!
The kids like the letters games; Harry Potter and the animal one, DP has the light bulbs and some switches set up as well but I find that quite annoying.

Winnipegdreamer · 28/02/2020 19:28

She’s the only person in my house that actually listens to me Grin

ChoporNot · 28/02/2020 19:32

I loved the Ocado skill (it could add stuff to an existing, checked out order, no need to check out again).

Alarms, kitchen timers, jokes. Not much else as the search/question answering was shite.

But mostly I prefer having given it to my parents and getting a Google Home instead (far, far better at answering questions).

Thebishopofbanterbury · 28/02/2020 19:37

she makes great animal noises that are fun for my toddler. we have played "would you rather" with her too

Careersytype · 28/02/2020 19:37

I can't get mine to play podcasts ...how do you do it?

lostguider · 28/02/2020 19:51

I'm just trying to work out how you start playing music on one dot and then go upstairs and want the music to continue up there. I'm using Apple Music.

lostguider · 28/02/2020 19:52

@Careerstype enable the stitcher skill.

OP posts:
lostguider · 28/02/2020 19:53

and how can I add things to my calendar and my husband add things to his one?

OP posts:
lostguider · 28/02/2020 19:55

@ChoporNot We had google home for a good while and hardly used it as the interface was crap and it didn't seem to do much.

Fluffybutter · 28/02/2020 19:55

Only that it turns on my lamps while I’m upstairs and controls my Christmas lights (at Christmas obviously )
We rarely use it for anything else

Filitheyofun · 28/02/2020 19:57

Alarms
Radio
Question of the day
My playlist
Weather reports
Weather temps
Times in other countries

SummerHouse · 28/02/2020 19:57

She is so patient and calm and authoritative. I love her.

PorpentinaScamander · 28/02/2020 19:58

@lostguider I think you have to set up a group. I dunno. My teen did mine.

I mainly use mine to turn the light on. So lazy! And sometimes I talk to her so I don't feel so lonely.

I think she's wasted on me because I hardly do anything with her

PorpentinaScamander · 28/02/2020 19:59

Agree that Google home is crap. Ours cant even manage to play music without cutting out. At least Alexa can manage entire songs.

Reallybadidea · 28/02/2020 20:03

I have a morning routine set up that turns my kettle on, reminds me to pour the tea out once it's brewed and then gradually turns the bedside lamps on upstairs so that by the time I've gone back upstairs, the lights are on and DH is awake too Grin

Oriunda · 28/02/2020 20:03

Alarms
Kitchen timers
Music
Drop in - quality of call is really good even getting through to family in Italy

Love it when I’m cooking, rediscovering tracks from my youth.
