To be annoyed by this sexist job advert?

A local sanctuary has advertised for a job and been adamant that this is not for women because they would feel uncomfortable with a woman doing the task. The comments are all the owner (female) of the sanctuary.

They also then posted mocking someone who asked for reasonable adjustments.

Is it just me or is this not a reasonable way to recruit?

"Can women fix things?"

What the fuck! Shock

JennysTailor · 28/02/2020 12:25

Pulling the ladder up firmly behind her I see.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 28/02/2020 12:27

Oh, I missed, "Can they climb a ladder". Hmm

Lifeisabeach09 · 28/02/2020 12:29

Can all men do this stuff then? Didn't realise it's coded into their DNA.

Hoppinggreen · 28/02/2020 12:29

It’s not actually a job though is it?
It’s free accommodation in return for help around The Sanctuary
I’m usually as ready as the next Feminist to get outraged by every day sexism but knowing how hard people who run organisations like this work for no pay or even thanks a lot of the time I wouldn’t be bothered in this case.

Kit19 · 28/02/2020 12:29

Yes that’s illegal the daft bat

plunkplunkfizz · 28/02/2020 12:29

What an idiot.

Marlox · 28/02/2020 12:29

I have visions of women all over being surrounded by broken things and stuck at the top of ladders...

@Hoppinggreen it says rent free with a wage so presumably paid

TheMustressMhor · 28/02/2020 12:34

Well that is illegal and infuriating.

Why do we worry about men putting us down when plenty of our fellow-women are hard at it, doing the putting down for them.

Aargh.

JennysTailor · 28/02/2020 12:47

Obviously she is some sort of Borg with super strength despite being defected by her sex at birth.

InTheSummerhouse · 28/02/2020 13:41

She shouldn't have advertised for a man but in reality the chances are that she will get a man to do the job anyway.

Christmadtree · 28/02/2020 13:43

It's illegal and insulting. I'm not sure there's much you can do other than apply for the job, be rejected and then take them to tribunal.

LizzieMacQueen · 28/02/2020 13:46

Perhaps she's really looking for a life (shagging) partner?

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 28/02/2020 13:54

Pffft.
I get DH to do all the heavy lifting and gardening in this house as I'm a delicate little flower.
(Actually, no I don't because if I did the heavy things would still be where I left it in the middle of the f*g floor 5 weeks later)
I wouldn't trust myself with a chainsaw though, but that's got nowt to do with what's between my legs and everything to do with I'm a clumsy twat who'd probs chop my own leg off or something Grin Blush

Enchiladas · 28/02/2020 13:55

I don't see the problem, if it's their sanctuary it's up to them who they want to hire. At least it saves women wasting their time applying if they're up front about it.

Babybel90 · 28/02/2020 14:57

To be fair at least you can see what she’s like before you apply, no one with an ounce of sense would want to work for someone like that!

But yes, illegal. Report to the local council or whoever.

Marlox · 28/02/2020 17:51

I didnt think the council would be interested

To be fair her most recent post was about how she has a stronger work ethic then milenials so at least its not just women!

OP posts:
Babybel90 · 28/02/2020 18:03

I don’t know, I saw a job ad on FB once which was specifically asking for 14-16 year olds (no doubt so they could pay them less) and I reported it to the council and they came back to me to say they’d been out to visit the employer as it was a job that under 18s are specifically not permitted to do under local by-laws (or something like that).

PlanDeRaccordement · 28/02/2020 18:27

I agree it is illegal for two reasons
Sexist
Possibly Slave Labour (because there is no wage for the work. Free housing for full time work is not meeting NMW. Has to be pay as well, otherwise it’s slave labour and the caravan is slave quarters)

PlanDeRaccordement · 28/02/2020 18:29

Oopsreread. I had missed the “with a wage” forget my second reason.

Auridon4life · 28/02/2020 18:33

Daft just daft
