What imaginary topics would we be discussing?

Bit of fun Smile

AIBU to give my kids half a valium each on Christmas Eve (my experience in the 70s).

Shock

Mind you, we’ve all fantasised about doing it...Blush

Ellmau · 28/02/2020 11:02

Greenham Common was the 80s.

AIBU or should I make my DS cut his hair?
Is it worth going to Spain on holiday? We've always been perfectly happy at Scarborough but DH has found a good deal. But it would mean flying!

Possibly some racist threads about the new neighbours from the Commonwealth, unfortunately.

Should I get a washing machine?

What finishing school for DD?

School says DD should stay on for A levels and go to university, but that's not really necessary for a girl, is it?

DB is emigrating. AIBU to think we will never see him again?

spongejack · 28/02/2020 11:03

Should I get a washing machine?

A twin tub?

Rosehip10 · 28/02/2020 11:05

Twin tubs actually gave a superior wash to automatic machines.

Spudlet · 28/02/2020 11:06

Oooh, based on my PiLs one and only foreign holiday - AIBU, as a person to dislike excessive heat, to have been on holiday to a volcanic island known for being very hot in the height of summer, taking a wardrobe composed entirely of Bri-Nylon and crimpoline, and on the basis of this to declare all foreign parts really not my sort of thing? Grin

squeaver · 28/02/2020 11:08

I used to walk home from school for lunch, at the age of 5/6, and watch my mum using the twin tub.

Daftodil · 28/02/2020 11:12

AIBU to continue working after marriage? DF says if husband can't afford to keep me I shouldn't marry him. DB says I'm selfish if I keep working as I'm taking up a job that could go to a man.

CorianderLord · 28/02/2020 11:13

As someone born in the 90s this is so interesting!!

TheHagOnTheHill · 28/02/2020 11:22

I would be too busy playing out side in the 60s and hanging out with real friends in the 70s.
As not all houses had ordinary phones even if home computers had existed then most couldn't have afforded then.

BigFatLiar · 28/02/2020 11:28

Is Dr Who too scary to be on prime time telly?

Tights aren't good for a girls health

How many petticoats are too many?

Is this skirt too short?

spongejack · 28/02/2020 11:31

Has anyone seen my Dr Whites sanitary towel belt?

I'm far too invested in this post!

BikeRunSki · 28/02/2020 11:34

I imagine a bit about how marvellous vaccinations are. DBro (nearly 60) had some illnesses (mumps, whooping cough)that DSis and I (10+ years younger) were vaccinated against.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/02/2020 11:35

One from the mid 70s : Should I allow my DC to have a calculator - isn't it likely to impair their ability to do maths? (No, it might make them less adept at mental arithmetic)

squeaver · 28/02/2020 11:37

Does anyone have a video recorder? Should we opt for VHS or BetaMax?

Bookoffacts · 28/02/2020 11:38

How to throw the ideal dinner party.

Is a two garment party too risqué? Too shocking to describe and they weren't swingers but it was more normal to have naughty parties (not what you think!) in those days.

Should I emigrate?

Should children be allowed to watch TV. Is it damaging? Should I limit it to 1 hour a day?
(There were no other screens)
It was completely normal for children to go out to play all day every day.

Is throwing child into deep end of pool the best way to teach them to swim?

I hate my 'cramped' 'dark' 6 bed four floor house in London. Especially the ( beautiful by modern standards - think entrance to flats) 'dark' entrance and hall and stairs!! I'll sell it for 6k, and move to suburban identikit house. Which I'll also sell later for under value. 😂

KJT78 · 28/02/2020 11:46

@spongejack I've heard horror stories from my DM about those period belts! All the boys knew when you were on your period and would tease you.

Help! My daughter has been using the mangle to flatten her plasticine and consequently I have got plasticine on my just washed sheets. How can I get rid of it? (I actually was that little girl.)
And.....
I am not very keen on intimacy with my husband, but despite that he forces himself on me at least once a week. How can I get used to this?

ErrolTheDragon · 28/02/2020 11:56

Should children be allowed to watch TV. Is it damaging? Should I limit it to 1 hour a day?

I suggest you suspend your rental from Radio Rentals when your DC is in the fourth and fifth form doing O Levels.

(That's what happened when my older DB was doing his.)

x2boys · 28/02/2020 11:57

Aibu to smoke in the car with the Windows up whilst my two daughters sit in the back seat on long car journeys?( My mum )
Aibu to pick my young son up.from school on my motorbike and have him.ride pillon ( this was at my primary school late 70,s we cant been more than six and the Dad was a,policeman)

YetAnotherSpartacus · 28/02/2020 11:59

Oddly I have long imagined a WW2 MN with topics about 'shall I buy from the black market' and so on!

Khione · 28/02/2020 12:02

My 5 year old is refusing to wait half an hour, until 4pm at school for her 8 year old sister (in the juniors) to finish and bring her home.

They have to catch a bus into town and catch another one from town home (the bus stops are only 50 yards apart but she will have to use a crossing to get to the other stop).

Am I being unreasonable to let her.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/02/2020 12:02

Would anyone be interested in a thread discussing The Archers? Archers Though it does seem to have too many storylines with people complicating their lives with affairs and divorces. (DMs view)

OTOH the radio 4 comedies with Kenneth Williams etc are good family entertainment. And the Carry On films, (Well, I suppose most of the double entendres did sail over my head then )

thecatneuterer · 28/02/2020 12:03

How can I stop my toenails snagging in my new bri nylon sheets?

How can I stop building up enough static electricity to power a town after a night in my new bri nylon sheets?

My mum says that women over 25 can't have long hair. AIBU to think the limit should be 30?

Rosehip10 · 28/02/2020 12:12

To think that "love thy neighbour" is brilliant telly?

spongejack · 28/02/2020 12:17

AIBU to ask if you like my collection of Whimsies?

If AIBU existed in the 50's, 60's, 70's
