Brexit will have soon cost the UK more than all its payments to the EU over the past 47 years put together

It's always struck me as a remarkably stupid idea and I'm yet to see anything that makes me change my mind.

Boris Johnson is a colossal embarrassment, I cringe every time the man opens his mouth.

I voted remain and I voted for the Lib Dem's so whatever happens it's not my fault. About the only comfort to be taken right now!

Parker231 · 26/02/2020 21:08

@SchrodingersBox - we don’t know what type of Brexit we are going to get although Boris is pushing us closer to a no deal. The UK will be so much poorer outside the EU with the loss of security of trade deals, protection of supply chains and that the UK will be a small player in the world markets.

KenDodd · 26/02/2020 21:14

@Sunshinegirl82

According to some Leave voters Brexit is all your fault. It's Leaver logic!

Sunshinegirl82 · 26/02/2020 21:18

According to my in laws it's principally the fault of the German's. HOW exactly it's their fault is less clear...

slipperywhensparticus · 26/02/2020 21:21

I still think I can advise people I want them to do things all I like they dont have to do it

KenDodd · 26/02/2020 21:22

Besides, if Brexit is so great Leavers should be claiming all the glory for themselves, why would they be pointing the finger at others?

ProgrammableMagneticStorm · 26/02/2020 21:23

It’s like standing outside watching your house burn down with your family inside but still thinking that lighting that candle next to the curtain was the right thing to do

Best analogy yet.

Yes, so clever. Wink

To the OP: Yes.

Whatafustercluck · 26/02/2020 21:25

No, never was.

I have however finally accepted that the majority of the country have voted, twice, to make themselves poorer in every way. I am only looking forward to Leavers having to own what happens next. Not that they will of course (it'll still be the remoaners' fault). But still - I can say I never voted for it and always thought it was the most stupid idea ever.

jasjas1973 · 26/02/2020 21:26

I voted Remain but i no longer class myself as a remainer, we won't rejoin inside a generation, so 20 plus years, if then.

So there is zero point going on about, its done and we just have to be selfish and look after number one.

Do wonder why leave voters are so keen to see the EU fail? Do they want another european war? ...probably! old gits have always enjoyed killing off the young.

LaurieMarlow · 26/02/2020 21:27

Well, I'm sure many working-class leavers in the north felt the same way about the jobs they loved that were gradually destroyed by competition from EU migrants and the reduction in earning power.

I’m sure they’ll massively appreciate the decrease in tax receipts and the knock effect that had for public services, the NHS and benefits.

FlaskMaster · 26/02/2020 21:37

Yes, of course. The extra £350 million a week for the NHS has really come in handy. Also, with all the lazy sponging foreigners gone, they've vacated all the jobs they were stealing off of proper British folk, and I'm now head of the bank of England, which is nice. The economy has gone through the roof, and we're beating off trade deal offers with a stick. All the other countries will definitely follow suit in a minute, and everyone who doesn't is just jealous or stupid.

Livelovebehappy · 26/02/2020 21:51

Yep. Absolutely 🙂

TheFaerieQueene · 26/02/2020 21:57

@Clavinova perhaps this might put a bit of perspective on your position

The traditional jobs in the north were the victims of Thatcherism and its purge of mining and manufacture, not the EU. All those Nissan workers who voted leave in an area with few or no immigrants and are about to lose their jobs must be wondering what the hell they’ve done. Serves them right.

SleightOfMind · 26/02/2020 22:08

This thread is grimly fascinating.

Clavinova · 26/02/2020 22:14

Clavinova perhaps this might put a bit of perspective on your position

I prefer this perspective;

"A new multimillion investment is to drive forward development of The London Cancer Hub–boosting efforts to turn it into the world’s leading life-science campus focused on overcoming cancer."

"The London Cancer Hub will be a global centre for cancer innovation–a vibrant community of scientists, doctors and innovative companies, which will deliver major benefits for cancer patients and the UK economy. The project will create around 7,000 jobs in life sciences and supporting activities."

StoneofDestiny · 26/02/2020 22:24

Never was and still not 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Clavinova · 26/02/2020 22:25

I believe Patrick Mitford said Brexit would mean the end of farming in the UK.

Seems highly unlikely he meant farming - what would we eat?

Those same farmers who are now at risk of losing 25% of their subsidies?

The full 25% reduction relates to large farms receiving direct payments of £150,000 plus - the EU have similar plans;

•to reduce the share of direct payments received above €60,000 per farm and to limit payments at €100,000 per farm...

Figmentofmyimagination · 26/02/2020 22:42

clavinova Beware terms like global hub, world leading, vibrant community etc. It does look rather as if your desire for brexity good news has got in the way of your bullshit-o-meter.

It’s probably the not so subliminal effect of our PM. Altogether now “How many hospitals?” ....

Growingboys · 26/02/2020 22:42

Yes

OhCaptain · 26/02/2020 22:47

@newnameguy why are you looking forward to other countries leaving? Confused

Growingboys · 26/02/2020 22:51

Brilliantly put @SchrodingersBox

And hahaha @ProgrammableMagneticStorm you made me laugh!

MeanMrMustardSeed · 26/02/2020 22:53

Yup

Perhaps - the London Mayor is a supporting partner. Grin
Fear not - the Royal Marsden and the Institute for Cancer are partners as well.

Clavinova · 26/02/2020 22:57

The Institute of Cancer Research
