Silly things that make you emotional for no reason

About 6 months ago driving along with car full of my daughter and her friends and Shotgun by George Ezra came on radio. Kids were all singing along at top of their voices and I did think at the time it was a lovely moment- but just heard it again today and remembered kids singing along and it made me get really emotional and properly cry. Really odd 😂

Ed Sheeran released his Photograph around the time both my grandparents died.
The lyrics just make me sob every time I hear the song.

To paraphrase Ed,

“Love is the only thing we take with us when we die” Sad

I like to think that wherever in the universe they are now, they still love each other and me, just as I will always love them.

@Houseworkavoider It’s for gay and bisexual men to donate blood for medical research.

Every night before I put DS (3) to bed we sit in the big armchair in his room for a last cuddle. He does this thing where he likes to tilt his face up to mine and give me a big sleepy smile and close his eyes still looking at my face so I’m the last thing he sees before bed, and then I pick him up and tuck him in. It makes me cry every single day. I love him so much and after 3 years I still can’t believe that fat, tired, stupid me made this brilliant, funny, silly, affectionate little person.

EssentialHummus · 27/02/2020 18:35

Football crowds, or really any crowds of people singing.

Yes - actual tears here at You’ll Never Walk Alone. I don’t even bloody watch football.

Christmas carols.

When someone very slow/elderly is crossing the road, the lights change against them but all the traffic waits quietly until they’ve crossed.

pooopypants · 27/02/2020 18:41

Another: when a funeral procession goes through a light but the lights change, the whole procession carries on, jumping the red if needed, to stay together. The way that people simply stop and wait, until they're sure the last car has gone. No honking, no pissed off drivers, just respect for the procession. I've also seen people stop their cars and get out when there's been an Irish funeral (horse drawn carriage etc, moving at 1mph), they stood with bowed heads etc, they didn't even know whose funeral it was and they just wanted to pay their respects.

YY to the crossing one - some old dear who can't make it to the other side but people just wait until they've crossed safely and don't beep etc

Kindness shown on MN sometimes - people offering to be witnesses, offering practical support if they're able, to posters who have lost children, offering whatever they can to just help out another human

I'm literally sat sobbing at this thread. Damn you lot!

TweetUsOnFacebook · 27/02/2020 19:07

Yes to kindness. Particularly when it's younger people helping older people.

The scene in The Royle Family when Barb is doing her mum's hair and her mum says 'Do you remember when I used to do your hair, Barbara?' is so brilliant and poignant and unbearably heartbreaking 💔

hotstepper4 · 27/02/2020 19:12

When dc come out of school and see their parent. The way their little faces light up and they tell "I see my mum!" ha it always gives me a lump in my throat.

When my ds is talking to me so earnestly about pokemon. I know there is going to come a day he doesnt want to spend time chatting to me, and will be off with his friends.

Hugs and kisses from my step sons. Their love was hard earned.

peakygal · 27/02/2020 19:14

The part in Dirty Dancing where Johnny is leaving and the song She's Like The Wind starts up...Every single time I sob and I have seen that movie a billion times 😂

Colliery brass bands

billydilly · 27/02/2020 19:26

When I'm conked out on the sofa (most nights) my son (in his 20's) will very gently cover me up with a blanket and stroke my hair before he goes to bed. He's at university so it doesn't happen often, sadly. He thinks I'm asleep so I don't let on that I'm awake with my lower lip wibbling

Rainbowbrite11 · 27/02/2020 19:37

The adverts on Tv for the RSPCA or the donkey one I'm in floods of tears

Izzy24 · 27/02/2020 19:39

Watching dog agility. They try so hard!

marmitegirl01 · 27/02/2020 19:45

Oh yes - school singing. When my daughter was in yr4 they did a special music project. Her year sang - I started to fill up and I saw my daughter say to the boy next to her - oh god my mums crying again !! 😂😭🤦‍♀️

orangejuicer · 27/02/2020 19:53

3 legged dogs or dachshunds with wheels.

Most things baby related!

fulltimeworkingmotherof4 · 27/02/2020 20:29

@Herocomplex he's so loved. His dad is doing a fab job and we see him as much as we can. He's just a typical grumpy teen now?

Josephine90 · 27/02/2020 20:45

When all my DC are sat down at the table, eating a proper meal together.. doesn't happen often.. I marvel at the fact DH and I made them!

Seeing 2 men in their 80s/90s holding hands in a care home, one feeding the other trifle. Such a pure moment!

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 27/02/2020 21:08

Watching people waiting for loved ones to come through arrivals.
And seeing loved ones meet up again. There was a tv show years ago following just that I wish it had been on longer.

And videos of people coming home to their pets after along time away/lost animals reunited with owners/abandoned animals being rescued and seeing them fit and well again. SOB!

pinboard · 27/02/2020 21:14

Nativity plays.
I've been to my youngest's Last One now :(

Unexpected kindnesses.

People's faces when they are vulnerable - they are so beautiful, even if they think they are old / fat/ wrinkled / tired whatever - its when anyone 'lets their guard down' that they are most lovely.

1WayOrAnother · 27/02/2020 21:15

Brass bands for me too! Can't explain it, they just get me. Also Giraffes Can't Dance. Gets me every single time.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 27/02/2020 21:20

Old couples who dress nicely and still hold hands.

There's a lovely pair in my town - she always wears gloves and a hat, he wears a suit and hat. They walk round together and look so sweet!

Bubblemonkey · 27/02/2020 21:25
