To just want a good quality normal mascara that's reasonably priced?

What happened to just bog standard mascara?

I do not want tubes that wrap my eyelashes or fucking flakey bits that stick to make them longer or 'ultra volume' pornstar lashes.

I just want a normal, good quality brown mascara that doesn't smudge.

If you don’t want volume or length, then surely any old shit will do?
I was going to suggest Benefit Bad Gal mascara otherwise!

The gold No7 mascara has no gimmicks but stays put really well. It only comes off with warm water, and doesn’t smudge at all even though I am usually a total panda when it comes to eye makeup!

SkaLaLand · 25/02/2020 20:14

@Pardonwhat that's exactly my AIBU though. There isn't just a bog standard mascara out there that I can find! They all have bells and whistles attached.

Cheap mascaras always clump for me. Clarins all the way.

Silvergreen · 25/02/2020 20:14

I love Max Factor Lash Crown. Best ever. They were doing deals on groupon recently.

GuyFawkesDay · 25/02/2020 20:15

Good old Maybelline in the pale pink tube.

It's brilliant. No flaking or clumping. And comes in everyday wearable dark brown too

ATowelAndAPotato · 25/02/2020 20:17

Clinique naturally glossy is my go to, and has been for 20 years! X

Pardonwhat · 25/02/2020 20:17

SkaLaLand

Try my slight porn star suggestion. And if you don’t like it you can get your money back. Probably. Smile
Most decent mascaras I find are build able so one or two coats aren’t going to look like wings.

ViciousJackdaw · 25/02/2020 20:19

What about Max Factor 2000 Calorie? They do a brown/black which might be worth a punt. Shop around for it though - I've seen it on sale for anything from £5-£10 in different shops.

SkaLaLand · 25/02/2020 20:19

This one @user1471539385 ?

I am loving all the suggestions. I'm clearly crap at shopping 😂

The Clinique one is good, haven't used it for a while though - the maybelline Great Lash is good but I haven't seen it in brown for years unfortunately.

OlivejuiceU2 · 25/02/2020 20:23

I swear by Boots Natural Collection mascara. £3. I’m allergic to most other make up, absolutely no reaction to this. Been using it for years.

HornsOfADilemma01 · 25/02/2020 20:23

Boots No.7 Extreme Length is my go-to. It's not actually "extreme" in the slightest, it's just nice, non clumping, non pornstar mascara.
I use the waterproof and have been using it for about 5 years now.

TitchyP · 25/02/2020 20:25

Primark gold tube, about £2

MrsW85 · 25/02/2020 20:25

Benefit rollerlash. It's my go to every day mascara

user1471539385 · 25/02/2020 20:29

It’s No7 ‘stay perfect’, and it really does! Plus it has the added bonus of not needing a product to remove it, just a wipe with a washable bamboo pad and some warm water, so fits my plastic-reducing remit (although the mascara itself comes in a plastic tube...) I use contact lenses, and it’s still fine.

Auridon4life · 25/02/2020 20:29

I get Primark makeup alot can't find better face powder or foundation. Their gel nail polish is great and their mascara is good.

kshaw · 25/02/2020 20:30

I really like L'Oréal paradise one

RingPiece · 25/02/2020 20:32

Was fed up with smudging and tried no7 stay perfect brown/ black in the gold tube. I love it. I will never use another mascara for as long as I live. It's a tubing mascara though which means it sort of wraps around each lash but this means it doesn't smudge. At all. It's bloody amazing. About £12 though but you can often get a £5 off voucher or two for three deal.

DailyMailHater · 25/02/2020 20:32

Soap and Glory - gold tube, available at boots best everyday “normal” mascara I have had in ages

Inextremis · 25/02/2020 20:32

I got sick of mascaras that came with weird brushes (or worse, combs) that stuck your lashes together, or turned them into spikes. Eventually, I settled on the cheapest mascara I could find - at the local pound shop - and it's just what I wanted! I went back and bought another 3 tubes of it, in case it got discontinued. So my advice would be to find the most basic one you can - works for me!

itsbetterthanabox · 25/02/2020 20:33

The number 7 one is a tubing mascara which the op said she doesn't want.
Although if you want it not to smudge then tubing is the way to go.

formerbabe · 25/02/2020 20:33

Mascara 2000 calorie

RingPiece · 25/02/2020 20:33

user147153938 you got there first!

RingPiece · 25/02/2020 20:35

Oh yes, sorry, but I was the same and didn't want a tubing mascara either until...
