From what I can see the general concept is that 2 brothers get to bring their father back to life for 24 hours to spend one last day together.

Now granted I have not lost a parent but I have taught several children who have gone through this horrid experience. The advice given is always to make it clear that death is final and that the person cannot come back no matter how much the child wishes it.

So surely the plot for this film is at best not well thought out and at worst it could give false hope that seeing their parent again might be a possibility?

Lots of Disney films have the whole died and come back to life theme in them: Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Hercules etc. I think children can watch these films and also understand that this doesn't happen in real life.

YANBU and they have form for this. In "The Good Dinosaur" who decided what constituted "good", who placed that judgement on the qualities of the dinosaur? Does that imply that there are "bad" dinosaurs and really what is "bad" when we don't know the struggles that the dinosaur has in life, so who are we to judge?

Don't get me started on the misogynistic trope of the boy that reunited that "good" dinosaur with their dinosaur family, that holds shades of white saviour complex. That's where monitoring what your kids watch comes in . How is anyone enforcing anything on your child?. You have control over what they watch.

Gosh the whole Easter "He has risen from the dead story" might be a challenge. I think that kids films and literature throughout history have themes around life after death etc and kids are pretty resilient.

You seem to be taking this a bit far! There are lots of movies like this already, that include dead coming back to life, gosh, in Coco the little boy goes and lives in the land of the dead!

If you don’t feel comfortable letting your kids watch that kind of thing then you don’t. There’s lots I don’t want my kids to watch so they don’t. It’s quite simple. I’m not up in arms about it, but I realise my values are different from some films so therefore we don’t watch. The end.

I also think you’re over thinking this. Clearly if your kids believe that’s possible you shouldn’t take them to see it.

Lots of movies have a coming back to life or a ghost theme. If your child doesn’t understand and thinks it’s real then either talk to them or don’t take them till they are old enough to understand.

It’s also likely not prudent to take a child to a movie like this if they are going through some form of bereavement trauma, but would think most parents are sensible in making those kind of decisions.

I read a review and thought this too OP (and I'm not generally a sensitive soul). Also something about how they initially only get back their father's legs and need to find his top half, or something? I hope I'm mis-remembering.

Im glad to see I might be a little unreasonable but equally its nice to know others think it could also prove problematic. I accept other films have similar themes but snow white, sleeping beauty etc were never actually dead so im not sure that is the same.

I know children are resilient and obviously its not real but I just cant help thinking it seems such a daft idea for a film.
Its obviously going to raise questions and evoke wishes of what if potentially leading to the child reliving those initial feelings. Afterall even the most resilient of children who has lost a parent would do anything to get more time with them.

I think toy story needs to be banned as well because it could make children believe that their toys might come alive.

My dad died when I was little. I never thought that about films where characters come back for a day or to complete a task or whatever (All Dogs Go to Heaven springs to mind)
