Is it my fault I scratched my car?

So I’m in a situation where I scratched my car whilst driving, but wasn’t really given another choice (there was one other choice but it would’ve been a nightmare). I’m wondering who you would hold at fault for this?

I have a diagram, I’m uploading from a phone (please excuse the scribbles my toddler grabbed the pen 😂)

Is it my fault I scratched my car?

I am also curious on what the car behind you (all the cars behind you actually) did.

Did they get damaged too? Did they wait?

whitesoxx · 24/02/2020 17:10

You don't just drive into a wall!! You reverse. The car immediately behind you goes round you and then the one behind that or the one behind that sees you need to reverse and lets you out

HadToWreckMyCar · 24/02/2020 17:11

These are my first diagrams sorry everyone 😂

Yes everyone right side of the road UK

@Chamomileteaplease I don’t think you’re understanding that the OP purposefully wrecked her car rather than deal with an awkward social situation.

LukeSkywalkingOnTheseHaters · 24/02/2020 17:11

Sorry, now seen second diagram. I think my response still holds! could have got a few feet worth of movement at least and continued straight down the road or parked on kerb?

onemouseplace · 24/02/2020 17:11

I'd have caused mayhem I'm afraid.

I'd have go out of my car (if possible) and made large shrugging gestures and pointed at the stupidly parked blue car though to make clear that there wasn't a huge amount I could do about it though.

adaline · 24/02/2020 17:12

Not sure what else you could have done, no.

You can't just smash into something because you want to fit through a space that's too small for your vehicle!

whitesoxx · 24/02/2020 17:12

You drive on the right in the UK?

Please go back and get more lessons

Zippyx · 24/02/2020 17:12

You should have looked into the 'road' you were turning into, seen it was blocked and continued ahead.

RedRed9 · 24/02/2020 17:12

Is it a one way street? Why is everyone on the wrong side of the road? What about oncoming traffic?

whitesoxx · 24/02/2020 17:12

And did you damage their wall?

adaline · 24/02/2020 17:13

From your diagrams, I don't understand how you couldn't see the blue car before you started turning in?

RedRed9 · 24/02/2020 17:13

Could you not have reversed straight out then driven the opposite way? (I’ve attached a diagram.)

Is it my fault I scratched my car?
ChicCroissant · 24/02/2020 17:13

So did the cars behind you follow you in, OP? If the blue car was overhanging the entrance, surely you'd have seen it as you waited to turn in?

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 24/02/2020 17:13

You should have looked into the 'road' you were turning into, seen it was blocked and continued ahead.
to be fair, it's very possible that the car blocking the way wasn't obvious from the road.

I am still very confused about the whole thing though

Nicknacky · 24/02/2020 17:13

No way would I damage my car in this circumstance. If the cars behind got through without being damaged then with some manovering you probably could have too.

HadToWreckMyCar · 24/02/2020 17:14

You drive on the right in the UK?

Haha sorry I got in a flap trying to keep up with responses! Smile Won’t live that down in a hurry

I trying to confirm we drive on the left and I was turning right Blush

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 24/02/2020 17:14

put your car into reverse and edge back....whoever is up your exhaust will get the message and follow suit...and so on and so forth (or rearth?? :o )

Sirzy · 24/02/2020 17:14

On both the diagrams you have posted it should have been perfectly clear to you that you couldn’t get into the car park!

Quite worrying how you think squashing through and damaging cars is the best option

TeensArghhhh · 24/02/2020 17:14

You drove your car through a space that was too small. What happened after you drove in? Did the cars behind you drive in and scratch their cars on the Post too? Or did the driver following you think, “Nope. I can’t drive through there without scratching my car. I’ll sit here and wait. Everyone behind will have to wait until bad driver comes back and moves their car”?

HadToWreckMyCar · 24/02/2020 17:15

to be fair, it's very possible that the car blocking the way wasn't obvious from the road.

I have a photo of the view I had and the car was not visible in any way (I got out and took one) but I’m worried about the place being recognised if I upload it Blush

Nicknacky · 24/02/2020 17:16

I think we need the photo!!

pooopypants · 24/02/2020 17:16

Your fault I'm afraid, the parked-like-a-dick car, I assume, was stationary?

See if you can buff / T-cut out the scratch

Happens to us all OP.

Bookoo · 24/02/2020 17:17

I actually feel for you, that was shitty. The blue car has parked terribly leaving you in a bad position.

Unfortunately it is your responsibility- you chose to proceed knowing there was insufficient space.

I can absolutely guarantee I would not carried on knowing it would result in damage to my car. Anyone directing their frustration at me would be swiftly redirected to blue car driver.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 24/02/2020 17:18

Yes you were at fault!

However you got away with just a scratch and worse things happen at sea
