Is it my fault I scratched my car?

So I’m in a situation where I scratched my car whilst driving, but wasn’t really given another choice (there was one other choice but it would’ve been a nightmare). I’m wondering who you would hold at fault for this?

I have a diagram, I’m uploading from a phone (please excuse the scribbles my toddler grabbed the pen 😂)

Is it my fault I scratched my car?

ok. crossposted again.
so you've basically driven into a post.
gotcha.
how new/expensive is the car?

HadToWreckMyCar · 24/02/2020 17:02

Just to say I 100% only scratched my car 😂

OP posts:
Walnutwhipster · 24/02/2020 17:02

Your fault. Who are you looking to blame? No matter what nightmare it would have been, it would have been cheaper than getting a scratch out, especially if you have to claim on your insurance.

HadToWreckMyCar · 24/02/2020 17:03

If you can't go through, you stop and wait until the ones gluing you get the message and reverse too

I really don’t think I could have 🙈 I’ll try draw a picture

if it was a tree blocking the way, would you have still driven straight into it?

If there's not enough space, you can't just keep going Confused

Do you have such a big car that all the others behind you drove straight through easily?

adaline · 24/02/2020 17:03

Why couldn't you see the blue car from where you were before you turned in?!

leghairdontcare · 24/02/2020 17:03

What a nightmare.

RedRed9 · 24/02/2020 17:03

For me to reverse I would have had to try and get 20 cars to reverse back up the road and it leads out onto a main road at the end

Yes. Or sit and wait for the driver to get back and cause everyone to have to go around you. There would have been a lot of frustrated drivers honking their horns but eventually things would have worked out.

The alternative was to drive into a post....

Nicknacky · 24/02/2020 17:04

So did the other drivers damage their cars?

adaline · 24/02/2020 17:04

And yes, you can't just drive through when there's no space!

What would you have done if the bollard you hit was someone else's car? Just smashed into it anyway?

HadToWreckMyCar · 24/02/2020 17:04

I’m not claiming against anyone

I’m just really miffed I felt like the only other option was sitting and causing absolute mayhem for the whole town, waiting for what could’ve been an unlimited amount of time depending on who the blue car was Confused

OP posts:
Chamomileteaplease · 24/02/2020 17:04

I don't think other posters are fully understanding the situation you were in, OP.

You had committed to driving in.
Couldn't reverse due to 20 cars being up your arse.
You hadn't guessed that a complete and utter idiot would leave their car half out of a space.

Not sure what else you could have done, no.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 24/02/2020 17:06

So is the blue parked but blocking the way in? If so this party their fault (although I guess you could have carried on on the same road and found a different way out).

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 24/02/2020 17:06

Not sure what else you could have done, no.

I honestly wouldn't drive into anything because of someone's bad parking!

I might damage my car to avoid a child (or an adult thinking about it), but It's a very odd reaction to selflessly damage your own car on purpose to avoid a delay for others. Confused

RedRed9 · 24/02/2020 17:06

I felt like the only other option was sitting and causing absolute mayhem for the whole town

Yes! That’s the option to take though. It’s the blue car who’s the dick that caused the mayhem.

picklemewalnuts · 24/02/2020 17:07

Basically you were trapped in a situation where one existing hazard made you into a second hazard, and so you sacrificed your bodywork to avoid it.
I'd have been hyperventilating!

HadToWreckMyCar · 24/02/2020 17:07

So that’s cars on the main road waiting to turn in to go down the road I’m on also

Is it my fault I scratched my car?

Not sure if that last image uploaded 🙈

OP posts:
picklemewalnuts · 24/02/2020 17:08

Ooh, not GB? All driving on the right? That makes it clearer how hard it was.

AryaStarkWolf · 24/02/2020 17:09

I would have sat and waited for the car owner to come back and move their car rather than damage my own on purpose

picklemewalnuts · 24/02/2020 17:09

This diagram business is harder than it looks! Grin

HadToWreckMyCar · 24/02/2020 17:09

I'd have been hyperventilating

I was Sad I had angry beeping parents who couldn’t see past the wall and understand that I was stuck

I feel like even if I got out and asked them all to move back that the message wouldn’t have reached far enough Blush

OP posts:
JustInCaseCakeHappens · 24/02/2020 17:09

what's after the turning point to the car park?

It wouldn't change anything for me, but out of curiosity, could a car have driven there?

LukeSkywalkingOnTheseHaters · 24/02/2020 17:10

Confused. Was the car immediately behind also turning in or just going straight? You could have exited car and motioned car behind to reverse, surely some had left biggers gaps, you would gain at least a few foot of space foot to get back into going straight, maybe a little manoeuvring backwards and forwards or mounting the pavement involved. Or reverse straight into opposing lane if a car would give way for a few seconds.

I wouldn't intentionally damage my own car.

What was the car park for?

SudokuQueen · 24/02/2020 17:10

If you hit something when driving, it's your fault automatically.

However I do wonder how the hell the idiot in the blue car thought that was normal parking. Its so bad!
