BarbaraofSeville · 24/02/2020 13:15

Trip Advisor?

Zilla1 · 24/02/2020 13:17

Which cuisine, OP?

CharlieB93 · 24/02/2020 13:18

Mansfield as in Nottinghamshire?

lemonadecolaaa · 24/02/2020 13:20

Yes Nottinghamshire sorry.

I am looking through Trip Advisor - but wanted some personal recommendations.

And cuisine isn't decided , just somewhere a little "special" maybe? Not the standard chain restaurants

OP posts:
BarbaraofSeville · 24/02/2020 13:25

But the reviewers on Trip Advisor are people too. There's nothing special about the people on Mumsnet, it's not like they only allow people with good taste and the same likes and dislikes as you post on here.

On Trip Advisor you get more of a consensus as you can look and see of all the dozens of people who have actually been to the restaurants in question how many thought it was excellent/good/ok/shite etc, whereas on here you'll get half a dozen answers tops that are likely to all contradict each other and tell you very little.

Bluesheep8 · 24/02/2020 13:29

It would depend what you mean by "special" op....

GinDaddy · 24/02/2020 13:42

Exactly what @BarbaraofSeville said.

MrsTHardy · 24/02/2020 13:44

As someone from around that area, I’d go into Nottingham.

CharlieB93 · 24/02/2020 13:48

Unfortunately there’s not anywhere I’d deem ‘special’ there’s a few nice restaurants but no where I’d go to celebrate something big like getting married - I’d venture into Nottingham if you can.

nowlook · 24/02/2020 13:49

Are you from the area @lemonadecolaaa or travelling back somewhere afterwards? How far would you be prepared to travel from Mansfield?

notreallybotheredaboutausernam · 24/02/2020 16:25

go into Nottingham to Sample at Tilt. It's incredible food.

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 24/02/2020 16:29

Il Roso used to be nice but we’ve not been for a good 10 years. www.ilrosso.co.uk/

Treacletoots · 24/02/2020 16:32

Second the suggestion to go to Nottingham, or hop over to nearby Southwell, the Waggon at Halam is a great little pub and about 20 mins drive.

Chesntoots · 24/02/2020 17:24

I'm struggling at the concept of "nice" in Mansfield...(yes, I know the place well...)

I would either head to Nottingham or perhaps somewhere like Elmton something a but like that

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 24/02/2020 19:46

Gosh, there’s an awful lot of sneery people on this thread 🙄. I’m guessing that the op is familiar with Mansfield since she’s getting married there.

I hope you find somewhere that you’re happy with 😊.

FedUpOfAdulting · 24/02/2020 20:03

@ChittyChittyBoomBoom yes I'm sure they are familiar with Mansfield which why they are asking if anyone knows any nice places, because anyone who knows Mansfield knows there isn't anywhere that is what most people would consider a nice/special occasion restaurant!

OP as per pp either venture to Nottingham or look at places on the outskirts... cockcliffe Hall is not too far, it's near Burnt Stump.

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 24/02/2020 20:09

Oh I totally get it 😉 and it’s plain to see which others poster “get it” but have been far more discreet with their suggestions.

vampirethriller · 24/02/2020 20:27

Try Southwell or Nottingham. There's not much nice left in Mansfield. (I'm there fairly regularly.)

Dinnertime22 · 24/02/2020 20:38

Il Rossa is good. I have also heard positive reviews of Ciao Bella.

PurpleDaisies · 24/02/2020 20:40

I’m guessing that the op is familiar with Mansfield since she’s getting married there.

Well, she doesn’t have any idea where to eat out and appears to not know anyone local she could possible ask.

I agree with going to Nottingham instead. There’s nothing special in Mansfield.

Aurielia · 24/02/2020 20:42

The lion at Farnsfield is one of my favourites.

I've heard good things about the Devonshire near Langwith.

Greendale oak in Cuckney is good too.

For scenery the jug and glass in Langwith is one to try. It's been a while since I ate there but it was simple homemade food but well cooked and rather cheap for the quality.

PS I got married in Mansfield registry office too.

Aurielia · 24/02/2020 20:45

Excuse me! I'm from Mansfield and I'm fucking nice and special. I won't even twat you one if you make eye contact with me.

Zilla1 · 24/02/2020 22:04

How far are you willing to travel, OP? Asa in Chesterfield have a modern, wedding-friendly menu if you can bear to cross the Mansfield/Chesterfield border.

Zilla1 · 24/02/2020 22:05

That should be Casa.
