To wonder why Disneyland Paris is SO expensive?

Dd4 is desperate to go Disneyland. We took our oldest when she was 4 a long long time ago. It cost around £900 for 3 adults and 3 children for 3nights and Wild West show with breakfast with mickey! We went in February.

Iv just priced for 2 nights for 2adults and 3 kids at £1.300 without anything or Eurostar.

Like what?! How is it so expensive 😩

If you're booking for two nights, you get three days access to the parks.

Park tickets on their own are £75 per person per day for the two park tickets.

So that means your accommodation for five is costing £87.50 a night, which doesn't sound too bad?

If you don't need tickets for the full duration it might be cheaper to book the hotel with Expedia or Booking.com (even the Disney hotels can be booked room only) and then buy park tickets separately?

LesLavandes · 21/02/2020 13:55

Our exchange rate to Euro doesn't help matters

Welshmaenad · 21/02/2020 13:58

Have you looked at De Efteling in the Netherlands instead? Not Disney but magical and much cheaper.

Mockersisrightasusual · 21/02/2020 14:13

The French have Parc Asterix as a patriotic alternative.

You can do Disney on the cheap by staying in a French budget hotel in the eastern suburbs close to the RER B Line which goes to Disney.

bonbonours · 21/02/2020 14:15

Another vote for Efteling as a brilliant alternative

inwood · 21/02/2020 14:16

Having done DLP I would never do it again.

Dozer · 21/02/2020 14:16

Supply and demand. Not been!

Barkybarkynutnut · 21/02/2020 14:16

The price of meals there was just extortionate!! We came back with mouths full of ulcers from the salt content (and the stress of the bill at the end of each meal lol!) Would not bother going back ever. Save for the US!

Dozer · 21/02/2020 14:17

Or Europa Park in Germany - Ryanair.

Dozer · 21/02/2020 14:17

V v weird theme / characters, but fun and lots of rides, ice show etc

Frenchw1fe · 21/02/2020 14:19

For slightly older dc who love history Puy du Fou is amazing.

Blackandgreenteas · 21/02/2020 14:21

I don’t really fancy it. I may be wrong but I can’t see how it can be THAT much better than an ordinary theme park.

MsTSwift · 21/02/2020 14:23

It’s not. We went when kids small. It’s not great they never mention it now

Firsttimemummy2020 · 21/02/2020 14:35

Stay offsite and get an infinity pass so you can take friends at a fraction of the price. We are here as we speak - 4 adults, 5 days, apartment hotel, swimming pool, shuttles the lot and we’ve paid around £500 which is including driving down and the crossing at Dover!

JacquesHammer · 21/02/2020 14:37

It depends when you go etc.

DD and I went for £500 for four nights in Hotel New York with breakfasts included.

Molly2017 · 21/02/2020 15:12

I agree. I priced up a hotel for 2 adults and 2 children under 6 with the Eurostar at a Disney hotel in August. I expected a couple of thousand, it was £6k half board!
Pretty sure we could do Florida for that.

Patroclus · 21/02/2020 15:13

From what I recall, its never made a profit since been opened, which is probably why.

Patroclus · 21/02/2020 15:13

*being

pinkdelight · 21/02/2020 15:18

It's a total rip. Our on site hotel was v basic, food was awful, miles to schlep everywhere through endless shops, not many rides and several were closed/broken. We paid extra to leave a day early!

pinkdelight · 21/02/2020 15:21

And the reason why it's so expensive is.... because they've worked out that's how much people will pay for it. For an intangible 'magic of Disney'. That's what your DD is excited about, the aura from the films and advertising etc. She'll prob get a bang out of the characters and parade, but beyond that, it's not a patch on a Chessington or even a Blackpool Pleasurebeach!

Blackandgreenteas · 21/02/2020 15:23

See, Chessington is quite near us, and then my two are much more into Lego than Disney, so why wouldn’t we just go to a Lego land?

Littlebluetruck · 21/02/2020 15:23

We’ve just spent £2,500 to take DS for his birthday - for 2 adults, 1 child, a 2 night stay at the Disneyland hotel, 3 day park passes, food included and flights.

I almost considered going to Disney in Florida instead, but have been assured that he is far too young to enjoy that yet.

joffreyscoffees · 21/02/2020 15:24

That's why we go to Orlando instead.. I loved DLP but I can't justify their pricing when I can go to Florida for 2 weeks for not much more if I stay off site.

FilthyforFirth · 21/02/2020 15:24

It is horrifically expensive and in my opinion, a poor alternative to WDW. I'd save your money and go to Florida instead!

NoSquirrels · 21/02/2020 15:26

If you went in February last time, that’s the absolute cheapest time of year - Jan/Feb are always when the deals are. So £900 for 6 and you’re paying £1300 for 5 and it’s 4 years on. An extra £400 probably about right?
