To wonder why Disneyland Paris is SO expensive?

Dd4 is desperate to go Disneyland. We took our oldest when she was 4 a long long time ago. It cost around £900 for 3 adults and 3 children for 3nights and Wild West show with breakfast with mickey! We went in February.

Iv just priced for 2 nights for 2adults and 3 kids at £1.300 without anything or Eurostar.

Like what?! How is it so expensive 😩

We go to DLP a lot , I’ve been to the Florida one a couple of times but personally I prefer Paris - it’s easy to get to , I can go for just a couple of days ( we’ve done it as a day trip before as well ) , the weather is more to my taste and I don’t have to fly . Like everything it’s personal preference .

Mrscmay17 · 22/02/2020 00:08

We went in November for absolutely nothing! We booked apartment on air bnb in serris it was perfect location & got our tickets to park on attraction 365. Chose cheapest flight dates on sky scanner

BillieEilish · 22/02/2020 00:13

I had the joy of working there. It is an horrendous place and extremely badly run and the food and hotels are a total rip off and quite horrible.

Discontentedpony · 22/02/2020 00:23

Those that have been to de eftling, how did you get there from the UK/southeast England?

amd4578 · 22/02/2020 03:44

Have you looked at magic breaks? we go in October for 2 adults 2 children in sequoia lodge with full board 4 night/ 5 days for just over 1k

BigTeaCup · 22/02/2020 04:19

And let’s not compare the likes of Thorpe park to a Disney park, they’re completely different

Honestly I enjoyed Thorpe Park way more than Disneyland Paris when I was a child.

BigTeaCup · 22/02/2020 04:21

I would also like to know. We do not have a car! 🙉

MsTSwift · 22/02/2020 06:29

You’ve got to admire the hold the Disney marketing machine has over the English . In California the Californians we met saw Disney as a just one theme park of several. Here it’s talked of in near mystical tones the implication being if you don’t take your kid they are missing out in some essential childhood experience. One mum had tears in her eyes recounting their trip. Honestly Paultons Park is way better.

okiedokieme · 22/02/2020 06:55

I paid £1400 for hotel and park tickets for 4 adults (over 12) a couple of years back b&b. I thought it was quite reasonable considering we had 5 days of park tickets included. Food isn't cheap inside but there's a McDonald's outside and supermarkets if you want to save, we found local restaurants but my kids are older so don't want themed places, we took water and stuff from the breakfast buffet in for lunchGrin

Mothership02182 · 22/02/2020 07:29

We went in January this year, did 3 days with a half board food plan staying at sequoia lodge in Disney for £750 2 adults 2 children. Booked flights for £250 for all of us. I didn’t think that was bad & would go again however I wouldn’t go without any meal plan as food prices are ridiculous. January/ feb are the cheapest months & the weather wasn’t bad at all & we weren’t queuing for hours either

FizzyIce · 22/02/2020 08:37

@RUOKHUN I think 4 days isn’t enough though ,unless of course you’ve been before but even then we still get the ‘buy 7 days ,get 7 free ‘
We wouldn’t get any discounts as we don’t know any one in the military but i’m assuming takes off a big chunk of the cost

FizzyIce · 22/02/2020 08:39

@BigTeaCup we have merlin passes so visit the parks quite often and Thorpe park has gone right down hill.
I’d rather Alton towers out of any of them

MuscatelGrapes · 22/02/2020 08:44

Agreed, @MrsTSwift. We regularly spend time in Paris with our seven year old, as we have close friends living there, and I’ve lost count of the times other people (in the UK) have expressed total shock and bafflement that we’ve neither taken him to DLP, nor have any plans to.

I remember one person who obviously thought that by ‘Paris’ I meant DLP and it emerged that despite having gone to DLP several times, she’d only ever done one day trip out of duty to the actual city. She thought I had my priorities all wrong.

frogsarejumpy · 22/02/2020 08:49

We did it cheaper last year by staying in self catering accommodation a 15-20 min bus ride away from the parks, having breakfast at home and taking lots of pack up food with us for the day (allowed).
We had late tea out at a lovely pasta place just outside the gates. Family of four and had a great time. We didn’t do any meals in the parks ( had snacks which were extortionate!) or shows but had a meet and greet with Disney character.

frogsarejumpy · 22/02/2020 08:50

Forgot to add, 3 nights 2 days in parks, it was plenty

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 22/02/2020 08:54

I'd save up and go to Disneyland, LA. I found DLP very small, disappointing and we had rubbish weather.

The ones in the US are brilliant by comparison but, if you want great weather too, you need to go to Disneyland, LA where you get a great night show over the huge lake too.
Orlando is also really good but beware of going in August when you often have torrential downpours in the afternoons. (Although it is lovely in March).

Youngatheart00 · 22/02/2020 08:56

It’s ultra expensive due to the National tragedy that is Brexit and the associated weak GBP to Euro (and dollar). Oh, and because they can charge what they like....some will still pay it. Honestly if you’re going to find the cost of the hol a real stretch I’d consider an alternative, spends when there aren’t cheap either.

anon2000000000 · 22/02/2020 08:57

I was £2500 for 4 nights, flights, luggage, hotel, all meals, park passes, photo pass, Wild West show and character lunch plus birthday cake. That was for 2 adults and 2 children.

Booked it as a package.

Sixsandwich · 22/02/2020 09:00

I'd save up and do Florida. No comparison.
Alternatively look at Europark in Germany. Absolutely amazing! Very cheap £30 pp flights to Basel from U.K., car hire and then a week at a Europark/Canvas type caravan park, and £45 pp adult entry to park.
It was fab. Great atmosphere, amazing rides, no big queues, and also had a lot of Disney- sequel rides such as spinning teacups etc.
Our favourite was Volterarium. This was the exact same ride as Soarin' at Epcot, Disney. Just fantastic!

Robstersgirl · 22/02/2020 09:01

It’s gone up ridiculously the last couple of years! Add the fact that their annual passes have increased in price massively and don’t have as many perks and I don’t go there anymore. We love Duinrell which is way cheaper, none of the massive rides but the pool is fantastic.

amd4578 · 22/02/2020 09:02

@Youngatheart00 are you seriously suggesting that befor 2016 it was cheap as chips? haha soon you remainers are going to be blaming coronavirus on Brexit claiming we all voted for it so we should suffer!

Youngatheart00 · 22/02/2020 09:08

@amd4578 it’s basic economics. They price in euro. Pre referendum we would get €1.50 to the pound. Now it fluctuates between pretty much parity and at best €1.15

Consequence - euro priced goods, holidays, events etc are ALL more expensive

Add to that underlying Disney price hikes to pay for investment (or supply/demand) and its easy to see why we are in this position.

I don’t think it’s ever been ‘cheap as chips’ though!!

amd4578 · 22/02/2020 09:14

Well i have paid less for this trip then i did before the referendum. The main reason why DLP is so expensive if comparing it to Florida is the fact that Disneyland Paris do not make a profit and even befor the referendum operated at a loss of 850 million euros in a year.

Long story short, if Disneyland Paris was any cheaper, there would be no Disneyland Paris

Sinuhe · 22/02/2020 09:18

Nobody will get me near the Disney parks.... it's the cost of a 1 week holiday
for us. Just far too expensive.

But we will re visits Europa Park Germany in May half term.
They have built a water part that the kids (one teen) want to check out.

Flight for 4 people £200.-, (easy jet to Basel ) accommodation is around 500.- Euros for 6 nights self catering nearby & we get free public transport thrown in. Ther is lots to see and do in the area- some free stuff too! That leaves entrance to the park, food and airport transfer to pay out for... a lovely holiday for the price Euro Disney.
