To wonder why Disneyland Paris is SO expensive?

Dd4 is desperate to go Disneyland. We took our oldest when she was 4 a long long time ago. It cost around £900 for 3 adults and 3 children for 3nights and Wild West show with breakfast with mickey! We went in February.

Iv just priced for 2 nights for 2adults and 3 kids at £1.300 without anything or Eurostar.

Like what?! How is it so expensive 😩

I’m sorry, those economics don’t make any sense either. “It’s so expensive because it makes a loss”.

The historic losses are sunk costs, they are either being propped up by Disney in the US or bank funding. Going forward I can see why price increases apply to fund future investment but not purely because they made losses in the past.

Regardless, well done on finding your deal - a good achievement!

NearlyGranny · 22/02/2020 09:19

Because, Disney. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I guess it just costs way more to set up a whole fake world piece by piece than to go visiting different bits of the infinitely more rewarding and exciting real one that's out there.

LanguLangWeetabixsavager · 22/02/2020 09:24

Book via the french site, saves you £££. You get all your documents in french but other than that it's no different. We managed to get 3 adults and 1 child for 3 days for £500 at a Disney hotel, tagged it onto our main holiday.

PS. I honestly think Europa Park does model itself on the Disney Parks withlots of similarrides and layout ... they even have a Mouse Character! 🤣

oblada · 22/02/2020 09:28

The entry tickets aren't too bad in my opinion. After that you need to be clever in terms of booking hotels etc don't book a DLP hotel, obviously.

Sixsandwich · 22/02/2020 10:09

I do wonder about the Disney comparisons to Europark. How on earth do they get away with it? Like I said, spinning teacups, a mouse as a mascot, similar, and in some cases identical rides. It's also similar to the Epcot concept with mini countries to explore, where the food, staff, shops and attractions are all based on that particular native land.
There's even a "Pirates of Batavia" attraction ( instead of Pirates of the Caribbean" seriously have they some deal with Disney?
It's loads of fun, and although busy enough to have a good atmosphere, there aren't the same crowds, so in the height of summer we were able to go on a ride, and then go straight back on it again. There were a few exceptions for the bigger roller coasters.
I guess what was missing was the Disney characters. You can't replace Mickey, Darth Vader and Buzz Lightyear with Ed the Euromaus... just not the same...
But for value for money, and an extremely fun couple of days I'd highly recommend it. As previous poster said, free transport in the region and also lots of cool stuff to do in the nearby Black Forest

@icebearforpresident. It wasn't me that suggested going to Florida instead.
@FizzIce. Yes really. I've spent several years living in France and weather was very similar to UK. I just don't get the obsession with Disney I suppose. Lots of hype and lots of queues for vast amounts of money.

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 22/02/2020 22:24

And actually the weather there in summer is beautiful and pretty consistent unlike here

Paris is rainier than London both in terms of total rainy days and total rainfall averaged across the year.

To those who asked how you get to Efteling - ferry from Dover to either Calais or Dunkirk, then just under three hours’ drive out of France, across Belgium, and into the Netherlands. It is very easy going with flat roads and minimal traffic except when skirting around Antwerp. If you live in the north east of England you could have an adventure on the overnight ferry from Harwich to Hook of Holland, then about an hour’s drive to Efteling.

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 22/02/2020 22:27

Sorry- east England, not north east!

HisValentine · 22/02/2020 22:33

Go to Orlando. It isn't much more if you go at the right time of year, book in sales or very early

Cherrysherbet · 22/02/2020 22:35

I went, and absolutely hated it. I wouldn’t go back. Over priced, crowded, not nearly enough to do, miserable cast members, smokers everywhere! No magic!

WDW in Florida is amazing! Save your money and go there instead.

Yellowcakestand · 22/02/2020 22:38

I've just booked flights for 8 people return for £315. Hotel for 3 nights B&B is is £108 per person, free shuttle 2 stops to disney. Transfers £60 each way in total as a party of 8. Park tickets £50 per person per day (get 2 free due to being carers).
Over all much cheaper than through Disney itself. We were looking between £3-4500

changedtempforprivacy · 22/02/2020 22:49

I didn't think much if eurodisney, ling queues for rides in October half term , very poor quality and expensive food.
I'm now looking at europark so thank you for whoever has recommended it.
I think some of our UK parks are quite good..not keen on Lego land as find it too busy but have enjoyed others and I'm quite keen to stay in the cbeebies hotel at Alton towers if anyone has any thoughts on that - is that worth the money for a 5 year old? She likes shows as much as rides

Mummyshark2019 · 22/02/2020 22:52

Disneyland Paris is an absolute con. It is way too expensive for what it is. If you want to experience Disneyland, go to the one in Anaheim, California. Not that long a journey and better weather and much better parks. If not, go all out and fly off to Florida. Give Paris a miss. Totally not worth the money.

curlychocs · 22/02/2020 23:02

I have booked for half term. Live in north. Driving down. Staying in high wycombe for £30. The getting ferry next day. Booked caravan about 20 mins away for £350 for a week. Will do Disney 2 days, Paris a day and other places rest of time. Will take in our own food. Couldn't justify the cost of staying in a Disney hotel plus if going that way want to see the area.

MsTSwift · 22/02/2020 23:53

How can you say Anaheim isn’t a long journey?! It’s a long haul flight half way across the world!

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 23/02/2020 23:21

Those that have been to de eftling, how did you get there from the UK/southeast England?

We are going Hull-Rotterdam but are taking the car.

You can go Hull-Rotterdam as a foot passenger and then get the bus to Amsterdam and I think it's relatively easy to get there on public transport. If memory serves correctly, it's one train and then a bus. We did consider flying instead of taking the car but I want to go to a few harder to reach places on our way there/back.
