Lounging in pyjamas - disgusts me. AIBU

Hi, so just after opions. So, apart from Christmas, I really don't like my children lounging in the house in their pyjamas - it's a real bug bear or mine. So, it's half term and my SS is staying with us. My bio kids are up, fed and dressed by 8.30. SS is older so wakes at 10am (I have no problem with that) but his dad has no problem with him staying in pyjamas until after mid-day. I think it sets a lazy precedent and personally find it quite disgusting. AIBU? Bit too extreme?

I don’t eat in the street, slurp pop from a can or behave in an anti-social way on public transport, either.

Ah yes because kids who stay in their pyjamas past 10am must do all those things Hmm

AryaStarkWolf · 20/02/2020 14:54

Who wants to be a slob like that?!

me me me!!!

TheOrigBrave · 20/02/2020 14:56

@Branster I have got UGGs on right now.
I'd like to think you'd look beyond my footwear to the person I am.

Armi · 20/02/2020 14:58

@JRUIN

I didn’t say that. But it won’t stop you from thinking I did.

SimonJT · 20/02/2020 15:01

@FamilyOfAliens Nope, no t-shirt, another thing I rarely wear in my own home.

Binterested · 20/02/2020 15:10

I hate pyjamas in the day. I do not feel ready for anything until I am washed and dressed - even on holiday. I don’t even want a cup of tea on the until I am up and washed and dressed.

But that is just me and I don’t mind other people doing it occasionally - especially not when it’s half term and the weather is too horrible to go out anyway.

I do think it’s best to keep it as a special treat - a slobby day now and again. Perhaps for me getting washed and dressed is just one of those disciplines that keeps me from sliding into weeks of watching daytime tv and eating cake and living in squalor. I appreciate that’s probably because I am naturally lazy so at risk if I don’t maintain my own standards somehow Smile

GF works 6 days a week, comes home and immediately changes into PJ's unless we are going somewhere. Days off she might not get dressed at all - I've never been used to wearing PJs so unless it's freezing I still might not put anything on when I wake up, if it's cold i'll just wrap a blanket around myself roman toga style.

Didiplanthis · 20/02/2020 15:22

DS 1 pjs still (ASD). DS 2 naked with fluffy blanket (ASD/SPD/ADHD). Happy calm relaxed children. Not disgusting no..... but judge away Smile

timetochangeagainforever · 20/02/2020 15:24

Yes YABU - it's his down time from school. Children and teens needs a break from routine like we all do. The weather is awful and they're having to spend a lot of time indoors so why shouldn't they be relaxed and comfortable and if that means staying PJs what's the problem. Yes, obviously, if they've an activity/club to go to but if staying home I cannot see your issue. My only non adult child is 15 and he spends the day in his pants unless he's going out. Thus comes from a middle aged woman who has never done the school run or gone out anywhere without having my hair and make up done whilst wearing decent clothes so it's not a 'low standard' thing!
I suggest you chill out and let your SS do the same

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 20/02/2020 15:44

If I’m not out, I’m in my jammies. Put them on as soon as I get in. Love the feeling of relaxing in my pyjamas. You’re being unreasonable.

bluehighlighter · 20/02/2020 15:45

Spending all day in pants Biscuit!

ALongHardWinter · 20/02/2020 15:46

Good grief. I have no other words.

bluehighlighter · 20/02/2020 15:47

I suspect that this is tied up with overheated houses...

FamilyOfAliens · 20/02/2020 16:02

Nope, no t-shirt, another thing I rarely wear in my own home.

Good grief - practically naked in this weather! Your heating bills must be through the roof!

CuriousCapricorn · 20/02/2020 16:09

Oh and for the pearl clutchers here, I even iron my pyjamas- and the kids too.

Still in mine at 4.10 pm- and don’t give a flying fuck Grin

BRITISHAIRWAYSSUCK · 20/02/2020 16:21

I don't think ita disgusting but i am the same in that once my kids get up and we have a little cuddle, get ready for the day before we go downstairs. A little clean and changed for the day, hair brushed and so on. When my OH wakes up with them, it's straight downstairs for breakfast. It bugs me but its just based on how we were raised differently, not wrong or right its just our own way.

Mitsouko67 · 20/02/2020 16:36

I prefer to get up and dressed. I like the kids up and dressed by 11am/noon. We don't do pyjama days in our house (apart from adult daughter😯)

rainbow1982 · 20/02/2020 16:39

Ha ha I'm the opposite, of my partners sits around in his jeans I can't help but say 'you'll be soooo much comfier in your jammies' mind u I'm pregnant and probably just jealous he can wear jeans 😜

Seriously though being cosy in ur own home in your pjs is one of life's pleasures 👍

bobstersmum · 20/02/2020 17:20

You need to chill out. And be nice or you will always be known as the wicked step mum.

SimonJT · 20/02/2020 17:46

@FamilyOfAliens I would be if alone! Top floor flat, fairly warm without excess heating.

bluehighlighter · 20/02/2020 17:56

Please tell me you people at least brush your hair and teeth in the morning?
I'd like to see what happened if SS did a spot check on the house with the 15 year old who wears just pants all day.

LaurieMarlow · 20/02/2020 17:59

I'd like to see what happened if SS did a spot check on the house with the 15 year old who wears just pants all day.

What do you think would happen?

Sirzy · 20/02/2020 17:59

SS would probably say “oh someone having a sofa day, I wish I could”

Like I said I get dressed every day but I can’t get worked up by people having a day where they don’t ? Relaxing is good and if staying in PJs helps then fab

bluehighlighter · 20/02/2020 18:02

Well, I was shopped to SS because I failed to RE-brush DD's hair when it got tousled.

Pardonwhat · 20/02/2020 18:10

Possibly the single most ridiculous comment I’ve ever seen on here.
