Lounging in pyjamas - disgusts me. AIBU

Hi, so just after opions. So, apart from Christmas, I really don't like my children lounging in the house in their pyjamas - it's a real bug bear or mine. So, it's half term and my SS is staying with us. My bio kids are up, fed and dressed by 8.30. SS is older so wakes at 10am (I have no problem with that) but his dad has no problem with him staying in pyjamas until after mid-day. I think it sets a lazy precedent and personally find it quite disgusting. AIBU? Bit too extreme?

I don’t lounge in pyjamas all day because I rarely have a day where I don’t have to leave the house for some reason or another, (unless I’m ill), and I think even if I didn’t I wouldn’t want to wear them all day as I like to feel fresh, clean and productive in some way. Each to their own I guess. 🤷🏼‍♀️

LaurieMarlow · 20/02/2020 13:23

There’s nothing inherently different between cotton pjs and a t shirt and leggings.

But great to see people committed to doing what the marketers want them to. Grin

MrsGrindah · 20/02/2020 13:24

What’s wrong with wearing “ outside clothes” indoors? That’s baffled me! Ok I don’t sit around in my coat but why on earth would I for example get up , get dressed go out to the shops and then come back and get changed just cos I’m now inside?

Theroigne · 20/02/2020 13:24

^^ That said, I do tend to get into pyjamas as early as I can in the evenings so I guess I do spend my fair share of time in the things!

speakout · 20/02/2020 13:25

I never have a day where I stay in all day.
I often have to give lifts at a moments notice to family members.
I usually have 4 or 5 delivery drivers needing signatures at the door.

Cooking or washing up at the sink is wide drippy sleeves gives me the fear.
PJs are not very warm, and with a dressing gown on top becomes horribly cumbersome, even going to the toilet becomes a damage limitation exercise with flappy fabric and tie belts to gather up in case of bowl dangle.

PJs are just not very practical for anything else except sleeping in bed or sitting on the sofa.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 20/02/2020 13:25

I agree with you OP....think it makes you lazy!!

LaurieMarlow · 20/02/2020 13:26

Only on MN could people get worked up about what total strangers wear in the privacy of their own homes.

LaurieMarlow · 20/02/2020 13:28

think it makes you lazy!!

Can you explain how?

auslass · 20/02/2020 13:30

I'm in two camps over this. I'm quite sick with pregnancy nausea so sometimes I'll be sick all morning, so I might not get dressed until after that passes.

But, if I were well, I wouldn't like it in myself or others. Seems a little lazy, don't they have things to do? Might be the case of planning more for them to make them get up and go.

SallySun123 · 20/02/2020 13:30

I own silk designer PJs exclusively for wearing at home in the day time. They are the most comfortable, stylish piece of clothing I own. I feel all warm and fuzzy just thinking about them. Grin

ginghamtablecloths · 20/02/2020 13:34

I don't find it disgusting but it seems lazy. Out of respect for oneself and others I always wash and dress each day unless I'm very ill.

Sirzy · 20/02/2020 13:34

What’s wrong with being lazy sometimes?

Fishcakey · 20/02/2020 13:36

We are always in our pyjamas at home. I love being comfy

BumpyNugget · 20/02/2020 13:36

Hang on a minute.

All the people saying shower and clean PJ's twice a day because it saves on washing "clothes".

1, PJ's are still clothes.

2, How are the multiple sets of PJ's getting clean if saving on washing is behind wearing them all day. Does fairy godmother pop around and wave her magic wand specifically over just PJ's instead of them having to go in a washing machine?

3, How many pairs of PJ's do the majority of MNetters own.

I personally cannot bear pyjamas at all. Thin material or fluffy, seam rubbing right up your arse with no pants on, really uncomfortable and just bleurk. That's just my personal feeling about them, am not saying anybody else has to feel that way nor do I think less of anyone who loves the things. Each to their own and all that.

CarolineIngalls · 20/02/2020 13:37

I have asked my teens to change their pyjamas every day or so during half term and that feels like high standards.

Every couple days they get dressed and go out.

PlomBear · 20/02/2020 13:37

I’m dressed now in lovely clothes, need to do my hair and make up before DH comes home!

FamilyOfAliens · 20/02/2020 13:37

There are obviously people who like to stay in the same clothes they’ve slept in and even some who go out shopping in them and that’s entirely their choice.

I don’t know anyone who does that unless they’re ill but clearly it’s more common than I thought.

Ohffs66 · 20/02/2020 13:38

I consider it a truly excellent weekend if I've only worn pyjamas between leaving work on Friday and returning on Monday!

namechangetheworld · 20/02/2020 13:39

I agree OP. It makes me feel a little bit sick when people talk about 'pyjama days'. I m not even sure why as I'm naturally a very lazy person Grin

Surfer25 · 20/02/2020 13:40

Speak for yourself. Mine aren't dirty or sweaty, I don't sweat at night

Lol

Yes you do.

People swear alot at night

With everyone in pyjamas until noon I'm surprised how few of you work

SimonJT · 20/02/2020 13:40

Those of you who like to wear your nightwear during the day - please tell me you get changed if you have visitors!

You’ll be pleased to know I have progressed from just wearing briefs and I’m now wearing sweat shorts as we’re expecting visitors in a bit. Sons still in his paw patrol pjs.

Surfer25 · 20/02/2020 13:40

*sweat not swearSmile

DreemOn · 20/02/2020 13:40

This is such a typical Mumsnet theead. Lots of hilarious outrage. I wonder what percentage of the outrage is genuine. I guess I prefer to get dressed in the morning and I always preferred my kids to get dressed but I don’t think I could muster up an ounce of ‘outrage’ over it.

DangerMouse17 · 20/02/2020 13:41

Its 13:41, I'm off for the day with my ds. We are both in our Pjs and dressing gowns. You'd love it here OP Grin

WhateverHappenedToBathPearls · 20/02/2020 13:42

It's a bit lazy I agree, but you lost me at 'disgusting', OP. That is a bit extreme.

Not something worth getting worked up by imo.
