Why are you awake?..

In no way an AIBU but hey ho!

I always read these threads when I'm awake so I thought I would start one.

I am 37+3 & have been awake for an hour with the worst heartburn ever! Taken 5 rennies over the course of the evening & have drank copious amounts of milk which is doing diddlysquat!

So why are you awake?

18 month old has woken up at this time every night since the beginning of the year. He's only just started to resume a regular sleep pattern and not disturb DH and I during the night.

Problem is, my circadian rhythm is now completely fucked up and I wake naturally at 4am even when there's absolutely no need to!

YeahWhatevver · 20/02/2020 04:47

@HoneyBee833

I've thought about a change but like most people I'm in my early 40s, mortgage, car, 2 DCs etc I have a good wage and just can't see how we could afford to take a salary drop while I retrainied and/or climbed the career ladder elsewhere.

I'm the main breadwinner so there's more responsibility on me (not that I resent it nor is DH a freeloader, its just how our careers worked out)

I've not actually spoken to DH really. He knows I'm not enjoying work but I haven't really told him how much I dread it mow. Not sure why, feel like a bit of a failure I think. I've always been very driven, I'm ambitious and feel like I've kept this hidden for so long (since at least August) that I just don't know where to start.

I honestly think that this is as much as I've told anyone about it

RhubarbAndMustard · 20/02/2020 04:47

I'm sitting with my mum in hospital. She doesn't have long. I'm listening to the other patients who are agitated, worried and all struggling to sleep. I've got my flask of coffee and wondering whether today will be the day.

HeronLanyon · 20/02/2020 04:50

Flowers rhubarb. Really tough. Lost my lovely old ma recently. Sending supportive thoughts.

penguingorl · 20/02/2020 04:50

Been in bed for hours but can't get comfy due to worry and sciatica, so trying to distract myself on here. Not a very frequent poster but always come back to the site when stressed due to the amazing support I've had in past. I recently lost my job due to becoming disabled and I'm having a horrible time trying to figure out how to start earning money even though I'm pretty much unemployable. On the plus side this thread has pleased me greatly as it has reminded me of the joys of not needing to wear anything more than underwear, so no pj entanglement/wrestling in bed currently! Can't say I enjoy the rest of perimenopause symptoms, but the no longer being cold at night no matter what I wear is brilliant!

HoneyBee833 · 20/02/2020 04:51

@YeahWhatevver I completely understand the pressures you must be feeling especially as the main breadwinner but life is so short! I'm glad you have managed to at least vent here today about how you're feeling but please try speaking to your husband - I'm sure they would hate to think of you feeling this way alone! ❤️

@RhubarbAndMustard

I' know how stressful and upsetting it is to be in this situation at the end of a loved one's life, once its over you'll be glad that you were there to be with her, hold her hand and comfort her as she goes, just as she was there for you when you arrived.

Flowers
HoneyBee833 · 20/02/2020 04:53

@penguingorl sorry to hear that!! Do have any ideas in mind? Any crafty type things you could do from home perhaps?

Flowers to all of the posters having a tough time/going through difficult situations.

Bluerussian · 20/02/2020 04:57

I'm insomniac quite a lot which is not good but have to say I did have a few hours good sleep until a little while ago and feel better for it. Made myself a ham sandwich and a drink, watching 'Greenleaf' on Netflix and am so relaxed I know I will return to sleep. I'm grateful for the respite.

Fellow insomniacs have my sympathy.

Nothing other than prescription drugs touch me and I do not have those. However I am relishing feeling quite good right now. Hope others experience the same.

crazycatlady7 · 20/02/2020 04:58

I'm up for the 5th time since 1am with my 17 week old.... I fear we have hit the sleep regression 😢. I've had 2 nights like this already this week, yesterday we got better sleep but still up loads. Today will be a struggle.

Sorry to see all those going through hard times, I do hope things work out, sending Thanks

Growingboys · 20/02/2020 04:58

No idea. Awake since 3.50. Fucking annoying.

FairyBunnyAgain · 20/02/2020 05:01

I’m up as I am currently in a different time zone, however I’m often up in the night when in the UK and read MN to distract me from my inability to sleep.

No young babies or pregnancy here as mine are adult, not really any job stress but I am busy, do have some health conditions that don’t make sleep easy and up until recently I was getting what I thought were night sweats. Turns out if I sleep alone with a very lightweight duvet then that eliminates being woken by fidgety DH and being too hot.

The only bonus I have found of getting old is I only need 5-6 hours of good sleep a night not the 8+ I used to need to function.

amehh · 20/02/2020 05:02

@crazycatlady7 is your DC wanting anything in particular? This is my second night as well and DD will only settle back down on me, but doesn't want anything like milk etc (and not even sure she wants a cuddle tbh but its helping for the minute!)

Selfsettling3 · 20/02/2020 05:02

Feeding my baby again. She only just feed 20 mins ago and I was just dropping off.

Wuzzle85 · 20/02/2020 05:05

Sleep regression or growth spurt. My 17 week old who previously slept 9-10 hours has decided she likes to be up for a fed around 4. Wouldn’t be too bad if she went straight back down again like she did when she was 2 months old but currently trying to get her off again. Also had awful heartburn- constant in my last weeks of pregnancy but she has very little hair. Disappeared the moment I gave birth.

PurbeckStone · 20/02/2020 05:14

Thinking of you and your mum, rhubarb.

I'm still awake (haven't slept a wink all night) because life seems to be crashing down around me and I feel sick with worry.
My DM has just been diagnosed with cancer, DP has had a major career set-back, I'm under massive pressure at work, have fallen out with one of my oldest friends and am worried about finances and my own health. So far, 2020 has been absolutely horrendous for us and I just want to cry. Time to get up soon, will need a lot of coffee to get through the day.

Yabadee · 20/02/2020 05:20

Hello all. I’m up! I have the beginnings of a migraine and have come downstairs to take painkillers to try and halt it. Now up on the couch with a blanket and a cold wet sock on my head.

Sending love to all who are struggling ❤️

TokyoSushi · 20/02/2020 05:21

No reason here, DH has been on nights but finished early and was home at 4:30am, I'm now wide awake while he's fast asleep.

Flowers for everybody having a tough time.

UnRavellingFast · 20/02/2020 05:25

so sorry for all of you suffering. I am up because of teen problems and now can't sleep. Happily single now so many other worries have gone but it can be overwhelming, being the only responsible parent to teens who have been through a lot.

LucaFritz · 20/02/2020 05:26

Just finished feeding and settling DS so decided to make breakfast and pump some milk i think I'll be awake a few hours yet

3rdNamechange · 20/02/2020 05:27

Was awake 12-2 then 4.35. Got a twelve hour shift starting at 7.30. Never sleep properly the night before, brain always going at 100 miles an hour. I hate it.

hoxtonbabe · 20/02/2020 05:30

I struggle with sleep at the best of times however this one is mainly due to eating a heavy meal quite late so I’ve been feeling exceptionally bloated and tossing and turning all over the place so only had 4 hours sleep/been up since 3.55am

eurochick · 20/02/2020 05:33

For me it's a combination of peri- menopause insomnia and being burgled last week leaving me on edge. Angry
