Or mini break? Last month my cycle was 21 days Hmm but this month it's 30 days and counting... with a mini break coming up I know it will wait until then. Anyone else?

I remember it well. I had a period every single bank holiday one year, nothing at all in between.

nowlook · 19/02/2020 10:52

I hear you @Cinammoncake

Currently mainlining Norethisterone- have to travel at the weekend and have no way of predicting anything these days.

Aposterhasnoname · 19/02/2020 10:55

Yup, 79 days without one, then the period from hell started almost the instant I got on the plane and finished the day I got home. Bastard!

Abraid2 · 19/02/2020 10:56

Mine used to like flooding me at 2500m on ski trips 😆

Popuppippa · 19/02/2020 11:00

Yup - transatlantic flights and any special occasion planned in advance also a favourite.

Cinammoncake · 19/02/2020 11:10

good luck nowlook
omg aposterhasnoname you must have been so pissed off!!
They are indeed bastards. Popping up when least wanted.

You’re absolutely right.
I unexpectedly had extra periods in the middle of my cycle (never happened before and I didn’t know I’d entered peri menopause)
Both additional periods occurred during holidays.

Blobby10 · 19/02/2020 12:07

Mine always decides to arrive for a day when I'm feeling particularly horny!! which doesn't happen very often these days so I like to take advantage - unfortunately the resulting blood stain on bf new carpet and a separate post coital flood on his new duvet has put me off giving in to my horniness until I'm through this hell!!!!

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 19/02/2020 12:53

Abso-bloody-lutely.

I can guarantee, 2 months out I'll be looking at the calendar thinking "Oh, I should be OK" and then BAM 3 short cycles on the trot and I start the first day away. Norethisterone is very handy.

MrsCasares · 19/02/2020 12:54

Totally correct.

BradleyCooperwillbemine · 19/02/2020 12:56

Absolutely agree. Hadn't had a period for 11 months and then a tsunami of a period arrived the day we were flying to France - our first holiday abroad for 15 years! Bastard.

TannatTart · 19/02/2020 12:59

Can confirm. Just has a surprise reappearance after five months,
while in California

DreemOn · 19/02/2020 13:04

This is NOT fake news. It's absolutely 100% a true fact. 😂😂
It's soooooo annoying.

We went to Rome recently and despite being on tran... (whatever it's called) acid a lot of the holiday was spent trying to work out the next period pit stop. It wasn't very romantic. 😭😭

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 19/02/2020 13:16

Last year every holiday and trip was marked by a bastarding period from hell. One of the highlights was a drive to Switzerland stopping every hour to clean up the Texas chainsaw massacre in my pants. This year I'm getting an ablation, I cannot bear it any longer.

Cinammoncake · 19/02/2020 13:23

Wow so many stories of this!! it must be an actual thing. And yes, it's not like they're normal periods either is it Shock no sleep for fear of the abattoir effect on hotel bed.
I haven't heard of this norethisterone so will look it up, thanks. I do take ibuprofen to try to improve the bleeding levels.

Beachcomber · 19/02/2020 13:33

Holiday or booked in for a smear test....

Blobby10 · 19/02/2020 14:54

I always pack a dark towel to sleep on if I'm staying in a hotel and suspect I might start bleeding. Terribly unromantic but better than the total embarrassment of waking in a bloodbath

Ulysses · 19/02/2020 14:58

Norethisterone can be used for delaying period or also in my case stopping them when they were going on for 4 weeks. They will come back when you stop taken the tablets as well if you are delaying it for post holiday.

My GP prescribed me them but I'm sure you can buy them OTC from Boots as a period delay tablet.

Ulysses · 19/02/2020 15:01

(Don't think it OTC but Boots do a service for them without going to your GP but in your case its probably worthwhile doing so. You can probably get tranexamic acid to reduce bleeding)

girlwithadragontattoo · 19/02/2020 15:11

I came off the pill after being in it for about 7 years back on 1st January 2013, had no period for about 6 months, went on a hiking holiday to China and the first day i was there it started Angry

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 19/02/2020 17:00

Last time I got Norethisterone, I ordered it from an online chemist. A bit more expensive than a standard prescription (you have to answer a few questions and they notify your GP) but worth not having to book an appointment etc.

DreemOn · 20/02/2020 10:01

Joking aside... 😌

I wonder if there is an actual reason you might be more likely to start a period on a holiday? Maybe the excitement or nerves or the flight ???

cologne4711 · 20/02/2020 10:10

I've been pretty lucky the last few times I've been away but not this Feb half term when I came on a week earlier than forecast. Should have come on around now, but had heaviest day on Sunday evening, first day away when I had to get up twice in the night to change. I did have a dark towel with me to lie on but actually managed not to wreck pyjamas for once. How is it that blood defies gravity and flows upwards?

I'm 48 next month, can it PLEASE stop soon.

Abraid2 · 20/02/2020 12:42

Yes, I've been wondering about the flight, too? Change in pressure? That might explain my ski-trip 'emergencies' at altitude (wearing salopettes and with only the most basic facilities available in a hut and people hammering on the door). I am shivering now just remembering the horror :)

Cinammoncake · 20/02/2020 17:39

I wonder if it's because we relax or something. Mine times itself for holidays irrespective of if I fly Angry

Thanks Ulysses about the Noristherone, am going to look into that for the summer. In the meantime, this trip will take a dark towel, that's a good idea.
