To worry about a sore throat?

I'm probably being ridiculous but in all my life I've never had a sore throat like this before.

I have absolutely no other symptoms, no cough, no runny nose, no fever etc...

I started with a sore dry throat a few nights ago and now I feel like my entire throat is swollen although it doesn't look it from the outside. Whenever I swallow it's as if there's a massive lump in my throat which is throbbing and sore.

I've been having to sleep upright pretty much as it's either very painful or impossible to swallow when I'm lay flat.

I feel fine in myself otherwise. Would this concern you? I've had dry sore throats before of course but I've never felt it tight and swollen like it feels now.

You should go to drs incase it swells more but my son had this recently with only his throat hurting but it was very very painful could be you have a virus.

Have you been to the doctor's, OP?

Hello,

They just said my glands/lymph nodes were raised and my throat looked very red and sore but as there was no puss, they weren't concerned at the moment.

Unfortunately since then I've developed a high temp (38 yesterday) and flu like symptoms, cough, cold, runny nose, runny eyes, aching muscles, lethargic etc... Sad can't sleep despite being knackered and I feel pretty rubbish to be honest! Strangest start to a cold I've had yet though!

Most of my colds start with a bad sore throat, followed by fever, etc

It looks like this one hit you hard. Plenty of rest and let the fever do its job.

How’s everyone doing? I’ve had a sore throat for 6 weeks now. Antibiotics not shifting it Sad. Next GP appointment not for another 2 weeks. Fed up of it now!

Lemons1571 · 01/03/2020 17:26

@nimsem2 have you got any answers yet? I am suffering from the same thing - painful sore throat since mid January, front / sides of neck also sore (especially on movement), am a bit hoarse and croaky, but absolutely no fever.

Had this for 6 weeks now Sad. 2 GP’s are stumped - said it looks red but couldn’t feel any raised glands. Now waiting for ENT...can viruses really last this long?

Nothing nasty going on but still in a lot of pain. I am being referred back to the rheumatologist as they think it could be due to fibromyalgia. Some viruses can linger for a long time. Hope you feeling better soon x

A twist in the tale of my sore throat saga

After 15 days of antibiotics I now have suspected thrush in my throat.......hence pain when swallowing, dry cottony mouth.

Ffs!!

Had a one off tablet which should apparently sort it but not working yet and I took it at lunch time.
