That is scary, although don't forget that between January 1st and 10th most people weren't aware the virus existed so those cases likely would have been fairly severe in the first place to have been tested and diagnosed. Hope so anyway!

Quartz2208 · 20/02/2020 21:09

Looking at it the January 1-10 has very few cases so probably not many people tested so the percentage is higher because less cases are there. January 1-10 had around 1000 cases. By the time it hits Jan 21 onwards it drops right back down

And google translates it very well

IvyBush123 · 20/02/2020 21:10

That‘s a good point avocadoowl. I hope that this plays a role.

IvyBush123 · 20/02/2020 21:15

@Quartz2208 Yes, there is a big drop in the mortality rate for those diagnosed between January 21st and January 31st... but maybe... Shock... they are only not dead yet. May be it takes a time to die. I hope that this is not the case.

NemophilistRebel · 20/02/2020 21:16

I just saw on my Facebook that they are advising people check the nhs advise

Which I did and see that the threat in the uk has increased from low to moderate.

Does anyone know when and why that’s happened?

NemophilistRebel · 20/02/2020 21:17

This is what it says

to be worried about coronavirus part 3
to be worried about coronavirus part 3
AvocadoOwl · 20/02/2020 21:23

If memory serves it changed to moderate when the Brighton lot got diagnosed.

floatygoat · 20/02/2020 21:23

Thinking about it, the vicar really ought to be stopped somehow. How horribly irresponsible of him.

jellyjellyinmybelly · 20/02/2020 21:30

Anyone else worried about all the diamond princess passengers who have been released from the ship by the Japanese authorities? Seems totally mad to me to let them l go off in buses and taxis etc etc. They haven't been quarantined properly for 2 weeks, they've likely been exposed due to the v poor infection control so I really just don't understand why the Japanese aren't putting them into a further 2 weeks quarantine??? I think Japan will have a much bigger spread now from them.

FakeFraudSquad · 20/02/2020 21:40

Thanks everyone - he isn’t attached to any monitoring body...he’s not C of E or anything, he’s just set up his own church and ministry. I definitely would have complained otherwise. He’s now back in the UK and I do feel something needs to be done to stop him. Will seek further advice.

South Korean city on high alert as coronavirus cases soar at ‘cult’ church
A 61-year-old woman is believed to have infected dozens of worshippers at the Shincheonji Church of Jesus in Daegu, taking the national total to 82

In what the Korean centre for disease control called a “super spreader” event, almost half of the country’s total of 82 infections have been linked to a 61-year-old woman who worships at the Daegu church, an entity often accused of being a cult.

She first developed a fever on 10 February but reportedly twice refused to be tested for the coronavirus on the grounds that she had not recently travelled abroad. She attended at least four services before being diagnosed.

So far, 37 other members of the church have been confirmed as infected.

Shincheonji claims that its founder, Lee Man-hee, has donned the mantle of Jesus Christ and will take 144,000 people with him to Heaven, body and soul, on the Day of Judgement.

Daegu’s municipal government said there were 1,001 Shincheonji members in the city, all of whom had been asked to self-quarantine, with 90 of them currently showing symptoms.

NemophilistRebel · 20/02/2020 21:43

@jellyjellyinmybelly I agree
It’s clear the quarantine wasn’t working

It’s also obvious it never would have worked as the air conditioning system recirculated the air and can’t be switched off.

So everyone each day is just breathing in more and more infected air which would explain the increasing figures of infected people each day.

If we bring anyone home to the Uk they need to be properly quarantined from scratch.

Japan has released a time bomb

RedToothBrush · 20/02/2020 21:44

The Washington Post @washingtonpost
Fourteen cruise ship passengers with coronavirus were allowed to fly home with more than 300 other Americans over CDC's objections

They flew 14 Americans back DESPITE being advised by the Center for Disease Control not to.

AvocadoOwl · 20/02/2020 21:47

Maybe 111 might be able to offer advice @FakeFraudSquad. You never know they might have processes in place re 3rd party concerns.

Given the current advice for those returning from Singapore is only to self-isolate if symptoms arise I doubt there is much that can be done. I would imagine the authorities would in interested if he so much as blew his nose though...

WaterSheep · 20/02/2020 21:48

Absolutely shocking behaviour! Shock I hope no one dies because of her selfish actions.

www.xinhuanet.com/english/2020-02/19/c_138798959.htm
Novel coronavirus can transmit via aerosol: health authorities

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) can be transmitted when someone was exposed to high concentrations of aerosol in a relatively closed environment for a long time, according to the country's health authorities.

and

The aerosol transmission refers to the mixing of the virus with droplets in the air to form aerosols, which can float for long distances and cause infection after inhalation.

Aerosol contamination can spread a horizontal distance of 100 cm and a vertical distance of 50 cm from source and remain airborne suspended for 20 minutes.

By this token, whole area with large numbers of people of infected people could be infected.

Would explain why whole streets are being disinfected.

Who is this?

IvyBush123 · 20/02/2020 22:12

The superspreader woman in South Korea.

I wonder why some many refuse that test. Is it somehow painful?

jellyjellyinmybelly · 20/02/2020 22:15

@NemophilistRebel I totally agree. Japan are somehow saying the people on the ship have completed their quarantine of 14 days. That's crazy! It's only quarantine if you're not reexposed. Otherwise it starts from day 0 from your last exposure. I really find it Crazy

Andylion · 20/02/2020 22:25

Thanks, Gorky.

AvocadoOwl · 20/02/2020 22:43

Video debunking some myths. I like the bit where they suggest that all the recoveries probably aren't being recorded.

By all accounts, those leaving the shop now aren't the only problem.

The infection control on board the shop has turned out to be none existant.

Yesterday 2 Japanese government employees tested positive after working on cruise ship.

They were never subject to quarantine and were free to leave the ship.

The situation in South Korea looks bad. Talk of upgrading the alert from orange to read. In addition to the church with the woman who refused to be tested, it turns out the first death they had was a man who was hospitalized for schizophrenia for 20 years and a number of other patients also have the virus (source BBC/Yonhap)

RedToothBrush · 20/02/2020 22:55

Technically I think we are now meeting the WHO definition of pandemic, but the lack of information coming out of Iran may delay official declaration of that. We do have localised person to person transmission which is untraced in more than one WHO region.

The US appears to have stepped up its prep today with the talk now being of when not if we have a pandemic.

TheElementsOdeToJoy · 20/02/2020 23:08

Technically I think we are now meeting the WHO definition of pandemic

What are the suggested actions once we meet that threshold, does anyone know? For example should people start cancelling/postponing long haul (or any) foreign travel plans?
