Just that. Do you believe in Heaven? If so what do you think it’s like. Im not religious but do believe there is a Heaven or would like to believe there some place we will see loved ones again and find peace ourselves.

No. I'd like to think I'll see my dad again, but I know I won't. Sometimes I think it must be nice to believe.

Snoozysnoozy · 16/02/2020 21:37

No, it's all horse shit

GrumpyHoonMain · 16/02/2020 21:38

I hate threads like his because death is unknown. And nobody knows whether there is an afterlife or not. If you want to believe in heaven to cope with death and dying then do it. If reincarnation makes you feel better then do it. I personally want there to be something after this life.

Laiste · 16/02/2020 21:38

I haven't seen any posts ridiculing anything Confused

Laiste · 16/02/2020 21:39

Apart from maybe the horseshit one which i've x posted with Grin

Scarlettpixie · 16/02/2020 21:39

No.

Pinkyyy · 16/02/2020 21:44

People are commenting no and saying it's made up as if they've died and come back to life and know that as a sure fact. You are well within your rights to not believe but please don't sit there and call it horse shit when for some people, it's the only thing that has gotten them through unimaginable pain.

Fizzypoo · 16/02/2020 21:45

Not heaven, but I do believe in ghosts (yes I know I will get ridiculed now). So if I believe in ghosts that means I do believe in life after death.

I read a book once where you became a sparrow when dead, it was a weird but interesting book.

Laiste · 16/02/2020 21:45

Discussing peoples beliefs is so fascinating. There's only been one 'horseshitty' post tbf.

longearedbat · 16/02/2020 21:46

Heaven and hell are here on earth, from my observations anyway.
Just as you know nothing about life before you are born, so it will be after you die. Life is a brief flash of brightness between two stretches of infinitesimal darkness. Make the most of it.

jcalel80 · 16/02/2020 21:46

I wanted to believe in heaven because it's such a nice thought that our loved ones we lose are reunited again but lately I've been thinking that if there was truelly a heaven and our loved ones were reunited wouldnt we all just want to go there as we would be together again with the ones weve lost and miss

Wolfiefan · 16/02/2020 21:47

I do. I lost a baby years ago. At about the time it died (mmc) I had a sudden and clear vision of my grandfather cuddling my baby boy.
No. I don’t know it was a boy.
No. I don’t know where that image came from.
No. I’m not normally one for “visions”.
But still.
And there are far too many beloved pets I truly hope to see again. Blush

overnightangel · 16/02/2020 21:47

Yes.
Anyway, it’s no more unbelievable than the fact we’re here at all

feelinglike · 16/02/2020 21:47

Yes!
I believe in God and I believe in Heaven.

Laiste · 16/02/2020 21:50

Fizzypoo the concept of 'Heaven' is quite specific. To me anyway. I too am quite open to the idea of some supernatural stuff, but can't get on board with 'a nice place for the good and a horrid place for the bad' which is what the word 'Heaven' conjurs up for me.

mostlydrinkstea · 16/02/2020 21:54

Yes. Not the floaty clouds and harps place of popular culture but heaven as the place where God is.

That is an orthodox Christian View.

Ages ago I spent a term on the Christian theology of death. It isn't straightforward as nothing is, but the main idea is that the dead are unconscious and only wake at the end of time when all creation is renewed. The idea of heaven changes over the centuries and you can learn a lot about a culture by what the prevailing view of heaven is. On this thread you find out that not many people are people of faith which sort of proves that point.

EngagedAgain · 16/02/2020 21:56

I'm not sure but as a pp said none of us know! I hope there is something else because life hasn't been kind for me. I do try to adopt the attitude that heaven is here on earth and to appreciate the good and beauty, but it's still hard.

ParkheadParadise · 16/02/2020 22:00

When my dd died I spent weeks in my bed with the duvet over my head praying that I could go and be with her. The only think that stopped me was, at the time I was 7mths pregnant with dd2.
It's only in the last year,4yrs after she died that those thoughts have stopped.
I strongly believe she is with my mum and dad and I will see her again when my time comes.

Sabee · 16/02/2020 22:12

Yes, I believe in heaven. (I am Muslim)

I believe that as just as we were created, we can be resurrected. I believe that we will be judged, and each persons deeds will be weighed, good and bad.

It may be wishful thinking for some, but I believe it would be grossly unfair for someone to live an evil life and face the same end (dead in the ground) as someone who lived a good life.

LetMeBakeCake · 16/02/2020 22:13

I don’t - I’m an atheist and think that when we die that’s it. I think as humans we like to think we are important and it’s just too mind boggling to think that we live our whole lives and then we just go, with no real point.

I think that we all you can do is live your life as best you can, try and have joy and bring joy to others. And hopefully make the most of the short time that you have.

However, the thought of heaven is a nice one and a real comfort to some - I know someone who is an avid Christian and his daughter has a terminal illness. He still believes more than ever and this brings him comfort and Im glad for him.

Frenchw1fe · 16/02/2020 22:13

@ParkheadParadise im not sure what i believe but i hope you're right and you get to see your dd again. Flowers

BarbedBloom · 16/02/2020 22:14

No, not at all

PinkiOcelot · 16/02/2020 22:15

No not really. I would love to think that there was something, but I don’t think there is.

Saturdaysnotforexercise · 16/02/2020 22:23

The idea serves two purposes- keep the proles in line with the promise of the afterlife, and comfort for those who have lost loved ones.

There isn’t the faintest evidence for it so I don’t believe it, but I’m not really bothered anymore (at times I have been depressed by the thought of death). The world existed for a few billion years before me and I’m not bothered about not being alive then, so j shouldn’t worry about not being alive afterwards either.

The morality of heaven / hell always put me off. Eternal punishment seems excessive even for Hitler, Stalin and Pol Pot. After a few billion years won’t they have served their time?

PrinnyPree · 16/02/2020 22:26

No, nor anything supernatural or reincarnation, however if someone was dying I would pretend to believe in it if the idea of it gave them some peace/made them less frightened. I also pretend I believe in heaven if talking to someone who's grieving who believes in it, if it brings them comfort.

But personally I think this is it. X
