Or is period diarrhoea fucking awful?

Just that really. Every time I have my period the first few days are so heavy I'm passing clots and my bowels go totally nuts... the worst room clearing farts ever and diarrhoea. I often don't know if the cramps are menstrual or diarrhoea. Today and yesterday have been horrific. Please tell me it's not just me!!

Nor just you, I get diarrhoea a day or two before I am due on.

Why IS that?! I've always assumed it is hormones or something?

heidihigh · 16/02/2020 18:48

Definitely not just you! The period poos. Not a fun time of the month

Oysterbabe · 16/02/2020 18:49

I thought you were talking about period dramas and was coming on to agree.

BlueHarry · 16/02/2020 18:50

Not just you op! And I think you're right Hav about it being something to do with hormones. I'm sure I've read that before

ddraigygoch · 16/02/2020 18:50

YANBU thats pretty much why I've continuously used the implant. It stops my periods and the period poo.

CynthiaRothrock · 16/02/2020 18:50

Me too. Every fecking month. Hard to decipher period pain and bowel spasms. I have taken to using diarrhoea tablets a day or two before I am due on. Works to a degree, apart fro. The time I took too much and ended up constipated, which was just as painful as the diarrhoea.

TheReluctantCountess · 16/02/2020 18:51

Not just you. I get it too. I wonder if it’s to do with muscles cramping in that area.

Motacilla · 16/02/2020 18:51

I don;t get periods any more but that was one of the worst bits for me back when I did, I wonder if anyone has done any research into why it happens and if there is anything that can be developed to help.

adaline · 16/02/2020 18:52

Yep, same here. It's horrible!

Nomorewine77 · 16/02/2020 18:53

I go the other way, literally can't poo for 3/4 days. Eye watering when I do finally go though.
Am so done with periods.

Piesandpants · 16/02/2020 18:53

I get period constipation. I’m normally constipated but it’s worse around period time. It’s definitely hormonal. I have to take laxatives daily but didn’t when I was pregnant.

Butternutsqoosh · 16/02/2020 18:55

Yes!! Period poos....bloody awful, usually on the day I'm heaviest, on the plus side when I've had one, I feel empty 😄

SidsWife · 16/02/2020 18:56

I can’t go at all when I’m on!

hazeyjane · 16/02/2020 18:56

Not just you
It's quite literally the shits....
...until it's not, and then it feels like
3 days of needing to shit a small suitcase.

Travis1 · 16/02/2020 18:56

Oh god yeah the period explosions are out the game here

EuroMillionsWinner · 16/02/2020 18:57

I'm so glad the Mirena worked for me! No more of these period messes or bowel problems.

SouthernFreeez · 16/02/2020 18:59

5 days before I begin it's like brown explosion. Once that clears I know I'll be on in exactly 5 days!

FuckThisWind · 16/02/2020 19:01

Oh yes! My Mum warned me about this when I first started my periods at 13. I'm now perimenopausal and my cycle is all over the place. I had a bad month in December whereby I felt pre menstrual for the whole month. And this included the shits every day, like period tummy. As if periods aren't crap enough - forgive the pun! I was walking around Sainsbury's having involuntary farts too. Great fun!

I've ended up being investigated for all manner of things from Ovarian Cancer to Coeliac disease and Chron's. Likely it's IBS as all others ruled out thankfully. Definitely hormone related!

aLilNonnyMouse · 16/02/2020 19:01

I've always had this. When I want to gross out my partner I call it "The PB&J wipes"

Sparklesocks · 16/02/2020 19:04

Period poo is horrible. Feels like insult to injury.

Floribundance · 16/02/2020 19:05

Early menopause has it’s benefits. I don’t miss this.

Nimello · 16/02/2020 19:05

Oh God, OP. You have reminded me that I learnt the phrase "period poo" from MN when Googling "hideous diarrhoea on first day of period". Along with the period-related phrase "javelin arse".

I have been feeling so fucked off with being peri-menopausal and therefore old, but you have reminded me that the good things are a) I don't have period pain any more, and b) I don't have period poo any more. THANK GOD. It was like having gastric flu for a couple of days every month.

toysoldier · 16/02/2020 19:07

Do you all still eat and go about life as normal when this is happening?? I'm always starving and find a glass of wine sorts it out a treat but I almost feel like because I've got the shits I shouldn't be doing g those things... but then I'm not ill... I bloody hate being a woman sometimes

Floribundance · 16/02/2020 19:07

Nimello

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin · 16/02/2020 19:08

Me too op. My last 2 periods in a row I've come scarily close to shitting myself when out.
