Should hotels stock nail files?

I've broken a nail, I've no nail scissors or file, wouldn't you expect reception to have a stock of emergency nail files? In a Novotel, asked at reception and drew a blank. I'm in NL, is it a language issue or is a nail file unreasonable? Not sure what to do with jagged nail.. 1st world problems I know..

They should but they don't I don't go anywhere without a file and a cuticle pusher.

I wouldn’t say it’s as essential as extra shower gel, scissors, needle and thread etc. You might find it in a high end hotel who have everything on offer but I wouldn’t expect hotels to have them as standard.

I don't expect them to so I bring my own. I hate having a broken nail.

It is essential though. Even if you bite it down, it's still ragged and catches on everything.

I break a cheap file in half and always carry it in my purse. That's as well as my makeup bag and the zip part of a travel suitcase.

Decent nail clippers used to have the underside as a file, but they don't seem to.

It wasn't such an issue when every man would carry matches.

Just bite it off until you can get to a supermarket and pick up some scissors or clippers? I wouldn't expect them to have something like that as it's a small personal wash kit item, I take nail scissors everywhere I would take a toothbrush. It's not like shampoo or shower gel where it's handy to be given a small bottle.

Stand down! They do keep stock, nail is fine. Dh was sent down and initially asked at bar rather than reception. Phew. I can't even bite my nails due to overbite - my teeth don't meet. Anyway all fine, minor panic over.

If nail files are of such earth shattering importance, why don't you carry one?

I've seen Premier Inns where they have a vending machine for things like that but I wouldn't expect a Novotel to have a stock.

Because I forgot. Is that really weird? I have ADHD and I am very often without something of middling importance. It wasn't important last night when I packed because all my nails were intact then! I'd love to be as sorted as some people on here. (Dreams)

Medium to high end, yes. Budget, probably not.

Glad you got it sorted, though, a snagging nail gives me the heebee-jeebies.

I always forget something when I pack so I wrote everything I normally need for a break away on a envelope which I leave it in my wash bag.

The essentials that are in hotels are often really interesting.

In the ones where you get shoe shine and a trouser press, a couple of sanitary towels in the kit wouldn't go amiss! And yes a nail file. But they do often have them.
