Should hotels stock nail files?

I've broken a nail, I've no nail scissors or file, wouldn't you expect reception to have a stock of emergency nail files? In a Novotel, asked at reception and drew a blank. I'm in NL, is it a language issue or is a nail file unreasonable? Not sure what to do with jagged nail.. 1st world problems I know..

I know you have cancelled the cheque already, but next time could use the sandpaper on the side of a proper matchbox.

FuckThisWind · 15/02/2020 19:12

No.
For many reasons. No.

wonderstuff · 15/02/2020 19:16

Genius idea Bluetrews
funkylittleboatrace I'd like to say I aspire to that level of organisation, but I'm pleased if I've got the right clothes packed!
Bubblemonkey I'm sure if I could bite my nails I'd have none!

What are the many reasons for not having nail files? Many provide as standard in bathrooms. Most have at reception along with toothpaste etc.

Interested in why this item in particular is one hotels should stand firm on refusing!

wonderstuff · 15/02/2020 19:22

😂

Try a brick wall or rough bathroom tile. Works a treat.

But, yes, you'd expect them to have spare nailfiles. They usually have spare razors for men, don't they?

cleowasmycat · 15/02/2020 19:30

Everywhere should provide nail files

BoomBoomsCousin · 15/02/2020 19:32

YANBU to expect a hotel like Novotel to have nail files. You might be BU to have a husband who would ask at the bar instead of reception!

Elouera · 15/02/2020 19:37

Your teeth don't meet due to an overbite!!!! Are you able to eat properly if they are that bad you can't bite a snap nail off?

Sorry, I have an issue with other peoples teeth and that made me really cringe (shuddering to self!)

Elouera · 15/02/2020 19:38

#snag nail!

wonderstuff · 15/02/2020 19:40

My back teeth meet, I've never had an issue eating.. lots of orthodontic work due to massive teeth arriving very early in a small jaw. It looks fine (now). But can't bite nails or cut sellotape with my teeth.

@Elouera so rude

BemidjiMinnesota · 15/02/2020 20:19

Wow @Elouera were you dragged up?

Permenantlyexhaustedpidgeon · 15/02/2020 20:24

I had to ask at reception for some latex gloves to apply my fake tan worh once. They were very accommodating and got me LOADS of pairs out their kitchen. I’ve never needed a nail file though!

Oysterbabe · 15/02/2020 20:24

I don't remember the last time i used a nail file, certainly not in the last 5 years. I just bite it off and it's fine.

HoldMyLobster · 15/02/2020 21:17

I always forget something when I pack so I wrote everything I normally need for a break away on a envelope which I leave it in my wash bag.

My son has ADHD and this is one of his coping strategies. Mine is to just have a washbag packed with all the necessaries in it so I can grab it, add toothbrush/meds, and go. I've had far too many experiences of arriving without stuff I need, and being in a budget hotel that doesn't offer much.

Trees2905 · 15/02/2020 21:21

Omg this is about the best FWP I have ever read. Surely a joke?

SpruceTree · 15/02/2020 21:22

No

QuestionableMouse · 15/02/2020 21:25

I keep a set of nail clippers in my travel bag. They never come out so I'm never without them. I also have a set in my handbag.

ILSSM · 15/02/2020 21:25

This is why I have acrylic nails

Doilooklikeatourist · 15/02/2020 21:27

Hotel reception usually has an emergency stash of tampons and nail files
Generally husbands don’t understand emery boards and their importance and can’t be trusted to ask for the correct thing , ( well my DH anyway )

Anoisagusaris · 15/02/2020 21:30

I never ever use nail files. Hate the sensation. Getting my nails done is not pleasurable.

If a nail breaks I just rub it against another nail and its grand!

speakout · 15/02/2020 21:33

emergency nail files

LOL

Maduixa · 15/02/2020 21:56

I've often seen little half-length emery boards among the provided toiletries (in the room) in that type of hotel - often packaged along with cotton swabs, makeup remover wipes, etc. But in a pinch, a plaster would keep you from snagging until you could get to a shop in the morning.

SirGawain · 15/02/2020 22:01

This is a first world problem writ large!
