To give my DDs this for dinner? Pic attached

I know it’s nothing bad on their plate but it’s not a hot meal and i don’t know much about nutrition. I know there is obviously veg, whole meal bread which i know is better. Then tuna which I’m sure is healthy and olives etc.

My DDs love this sort of meal with lots of different things on their plate and ask me to give them this often but I feel lazy giving them something that hardly requires any prep.

Is this nutritious enough for an evening meal?

YABU - I shouldn’t be giving them that for dinner

YANBU - it’s perfectly fine

It's perfectly fine.
However....

".....i don’t know much about nutrition"

Perhaps you need to start, OP.
Nobody is expecting you to be PhD level but if you've got children, perhaps a basic grasp of nutrition is sensible?

Minesril · 14/02/2020 17:47

That's the sort of thing I do my DS when i know he's not going to eat whatever recipe I've got from Gousto, usually once a week!

EverythingsEasy · 14/02/2020 17:48

I don't see what the temperature of the food has to do with its healthiness.

I know it sounds silly but I just thought maybe it was bad of me not giving them a hot dinner every night, especially in winter.

It’s got all the necessaries. Perfect.

Shookethtothecore · 14/02/2020 17:50

We call meals like that a picnic plate- and my kids would choose it for every meal if I let them

Nowayorhighway · 14/02/2020 17:50

Looks fine. My DC have pizza every Friday night and I genuinely don’t feel guilty about it, they eat healthy meals every other night.

DontCallMeShitley · 14/02/2020 17:51

I don't see what the temperature of the food has to do with its healthiness.

Many times I have seen posts saying that a hot meal is essential to life as we know it, people will assume that is correct.

Something similar to the plate in the OP is very popular here, and is also very handy for clearing out the fridge before the weekly shop or on a lazy day.

Teateaandmoretea · 14/02/2020 17:53

That’s my 6 year olds plate. My 3 year old had the same minus the tomatoes and olives

Even so 🤷🏻‍♀️😂😂😂

OhLook · 14/02/2020 17:54

I have an 8 year old fussy eater who wouldn't manage to eat half that much. Actually she would only eat the cucumber and the ham, providing they hadn't touched any of the rest of the things.

I think it looks like a perfectly healthy meal :)

maryberryslayers · 14/02/2020 17:55

That looks perfect to me! Lovely and healthy. DS often has a hot lunch and a cold picky tea. I'd be really pleased if he ate all that. It doesn't matter if it's cooked or not as long as it's balanced they are happy and full!

strictlyshowbiz · 14/02/2020 17:56

Why would even not be ok?

Chickoletta · 14/02/2020 17:58

Stealth boast?

DowntonCrabby · 14/02/2020 17:58

No one is stupid enough to think this would be an unhealthy meal. Hmm

Tombliwho · 14/02/2020 18:01

🙄 you know it's fine.

TheFastandTheCurious · 14/02/2020 18:01

What's there to stealth boast about ffs, it's tuna, pasta, bread and a bit of veg, hardly caviar, oysters and foie gras

Mooey89 · 14/02/2020 18:02

For dinner tonight my 6 year old had a happy meal followed by some valentines chocolate. So.

furryleopard · 14/02/2020 18:03

Mine are having lazy tea (which is actually their favourite) consists of pasta, fish fingers and whatever veg we've got in. I'm eating later when DH gets home from late shift. Yours looks great! In fact I might adopt that as a tea.

speakout · 14/02/2020 18:04

My kids would pick at a meal like that- as would I- looks quite unappetising. Cooked cold green pasta, processed ham. Very light in protein.
Ok at a push but a light lunch rather than dinner.

Catapillarsruletheworld · 14/02/2020 18:05

My dds are having microwave pasta. That meal is fine.

orangejuicer · 14/02/2020 18:06

Picky tea! [Grin]

EverythingsEasy · 14/02/2020 18:06

Yes, I know the food on the plate is healthy enough but like I said, I had thought not giving them hot meals was maybe a no no. My own mum heated up frozen kids food most of the time for us, with the odd chippy thrown in so I have nothing to go off. I just know I want to try to feed my kids more healthily than I was fed when I was young.

My concern was mainly with it not being a hot meal and although I know each of the foods is fairly healthy, I didn’t know if it was balanced eg enough carbs/protein etc.

EverythingsEasy · 14/02/2020 18:07

It’s not green pasta, it’s pasta with pesto.

xcellent dinner, my 15 year old has always loved meals like this. We call them a sampler platter.

QueenOfCatan · 14/02/2020 18:09

It's fine, a picky dinner is basically all my daughter eats. We swapped her main meal to lunchtime as she just doesn't eat in the evening so usually gets a mixed plate like that of leftovers, a sandwich or wrap and loads of fruit and veg. It works.

jellycatspyjamas · 14/02/2020 18:10

You’ve been feeding children for 6 years and they’re still here - why start worrying about it now.
